  1. Yes Richard! Hard to beat the "silver fox racing crowd" They have the rear wheel HP & the ability to use it wisely! I met Martin (300zx) who ran 5th - the other day & he has done very well with what is a very heavy car (compared to the S30). Wilbur was still feeling his way with the new suspension setup - so I think he has heaps in reserve! Guess he is awaiting your return to the track to pounce!
  2. Agree with not getting too hung up on the regs etc. Lets face it - the "big wallet" guys could run a sequencial gearset in an original L series box and end up in the same class as you! :'( I built my car in 2004 for LMS & due to one issue (adjustable camber) ended up in MS - no drama I wasn't going to change & simply get put up one modification class. As I will never be on the podium & simply enjoy competing I send in the technical details of my car & have never had any issues with technical aspects. Fact is if you read what they say - you would have trouble building a car to comply & they are forever changing supp. regs. from year to year Competed in 2004, 2005 & 2008 classic adelaide under both CAMS & AASA & found no-one is that fussed about all the details - till the lawyers get called in whih is not what most people are about! I friend of mine also ran his SS class 240z in Targa High Country last year - and no attention was really paid to his car + no real standard class existed as he was the fastest standard Z their - but no prize etc. so he may as well had a "stroker motor" in his Z! If you want to "interpret" the supp. regs to a fine point - you can basically build a sports sedan and go tarmac rallying - have a look at the FJ holden that competes in THC, Targa Tassie etc. it is a sports sedan with an FJ body & 400hp
  3. Maybe the z32's could be used as snow ploughs this winter at Mt Buller! I know some of them are very quick - but it is also a "buzz" to harass more modern equipment with a 35 - 40year old Z!
  4. Trust your enjoying your "European Vacation" Mr Lea! Your right about springs etc. Jason Jon & Darrin Siddins have been assisting some of the Gold Coast boys playing at Morgan Park Sprint Series (300 pound front springs one of the first changes!) Has made a big improvement to their times etc. Guess I should change my tarmac car sometime (it's had the same suspension setup since it was built in 2004) bilstein shocks & king springs 200 pond upfront & 250 pound rears. I know its not ideal for trackwork - but it is very nice on tarmac rally! Some approx. times from the weekend were(sorry to anyone who's time I forgot or misquote!): Lurch:low 64's Dave R low 64's Mike McKelliget low 62's Greg Ald low 66's Lee Falkner 59's (one run before is balancer worked loose & could't be tightened!) Dusty (bang F%#k where's my boy!) :'( Robin Evans 65's Wilbur "silver fox" Graham High 61's Matt R 64's? (old toyo's) Jim Milliner (in my z) mid 62's Me mid 61's Nev high 60's Alan Fielding high 60's Aubrey Hughes 65's sorry all I can remember anymore!
  5. I have a 280zx 5 speed available for sale - however it is located in Brisbane. PM me if you wish to consider the one I have. Regards
  6. Have been running the hankook Z214 tyre in this years sprint series at Morgan Park Warwick very happy & have been doing PB's all year!
  7. Welcome fellow Queenslander Some active car groups up north - particularly Townsville. A guy called Warren Skimmings is active in Townsville & runs a very nice light blue turbo 240z. Think he has some involvement in the organised hillclimb/race up the Townsville "rock'. BTW: nice car
  8. I am a fan of Penrite HPR30 - used it since 2004 with no issues! Current tarmac rally engine was rebuilt in early 2006 & is still going strong (using Penrite HPR30) NOTE: I do change the oil regularly (3 to 4 times a times a year) as the car is not regularly driven on road etc. mostly track work. You may be surprised BUT the L series (when driven hard) do cause engine oil temperatures to rise significantly - so oil quality is critical. I have never noticed the Penrite oil to smell "burnt" but change regularly as it is still a "mineral oil".
  9. GUYS, Anyone consistently revving their Z MUST have a decent balancer! How could you enjoy it otherwise Minimum engine rebuild is in excess of $6K - so the price of a performance balancer is CHEAP I bought a brand new genuine standard nissan balancer in 2004 & the bolt fell out after the second stage of DAY 1 Classic Adelaide 2004. We still had 4 days to go! I learned my lesson! :'( BUY BUY BUY
  10. I believe the ATI balancer is very good - but BHJ Dynamics may also be a good option. BHJ used by Rebello & numerous nascar/V8 supercar teams (eg. 888 vodafone racing)
  11. Well done guys Good to see your putting life back into the old girl the previous owners have set a "high benchmark" for that car (performance wise) Looks like your developing a great fun package to go racing!
  12. Next round of Super Sprint Series is on this weekend (9 & 10 April 2011) Best day is Saturday to catch a FULL day of sprinting. Should be over 10 to 12 Zeds competing & very social environment. All welcome
  13. Yes - it was Supercharged - never really performed to expectations (did about the same times as my 260Z tarmac car - with 5 year old engine, at Bathurst FOSC meeting in 2010! :'() & has since been removed awaiting a "serious" 8000+ rpm screamer fuel injected L28 (under development) + removed suspension/brakes to go with "lighter" AZC options. Sorry, will have my 260Z tarmac car there as the 240z engine programme delayed due to floods + suspension removed awaiting AZC items All good things take time - I think as members "pick up the vibe" more will contribute or will use the collective knowledge of this forum. Correct - don't know when the old man is retiring - took me 2 years to just beat his times at Lakeside Raceway! He is doing pretty well for 77y.o. driving a 550HP monster RB30 Turbo 260Z
  14. Yea - 24 Dat should be able to encourage some action on that front! He has some official duties & as this site is very open/informative - our membership would benefit greatly.
  15. The Jongbloed's are as cheap as they are every going to be (with current exchange rates!) Mine were $700 USD each 4 years ago But weight saving comes at a cost (mine are about 7lbs each)
  16. Sorry for misspelling your name Luvemfast, Luvemfast, Luvemfast I bought some Jongbloed aero 316 race wheels from the states a few years ago (wish I was buying now!) Problem is their too big to run on my tarmac Z (you can never win :'()
  17. Hi Guys, I looked at it on Sunday. Is a reasonably straight car - no serious crash damage evident lots of work needed - but recoverable if you have the patience :-\ rough assessment from my 10 min inspection new floors required (both sides) both doglegs rotten underside of battery (opposite side to RHD versions) rotten chassis rails very average some rotten sections to inner front guard gusset (chassis rail area adjacent firewall) Front of bonnet damaged rear hatch opening (sill to LHS rotten) Drivers side door (LHS) rotten at base non original steering wheel (looks like 60's morris minor!) other than the dogleg sections - most rust looks untouched - so at least you know what you are in for (minimum coverups) $ - :-\ but it is a fair bit of work to restore good luck
  18. Hi Lumemfast, I had them on 16x9 fronts & 16x10 rears. 16x9 would be the minimum size
  19. I put the MSA carbon fibre tail light surrounds on my 240z track car - they look the business!
  20. Can you unpack your wine first please
  21. Hi everyone dat2kman kindly posted these for me prior to my registration on this forum. These slicks came off my track 240ZG replica racecar & have seen very little work. My car weighs about 980kg I am selling as my new engine development programme was delayed due to the business undertaking extensive headwork going under 4m of water in the Brisbane floods! Believe it or not the N42 head did not float away - BUT has taken many months for them to recover. Also, I decided to lighten the suspension & go for some of AZC items. It all takes time.... I am prepared to let these go to a "good home" on this forum for half of what they cost me - so grab a bargain!
  22. Hi Lurch, Read the story of your early girl (great story/read) You may be horrified to know that we have a guy based in SEQ who is almost finished his new track car. It's an early girl (Chassis number something below HS30-00020 maybe 12?) that was very nearly beyond recovery due to rust etc. - now has ZG flares and an RB26DETT. Will be running at Morgan Park Warwick soon (I am reliably informed). My general view is "it doesn't matter how they survive - as long as they DO survive! Though I must admit drag cars/sports sedan may take it too far!
  23. Thanks Brabham Bought the ZG nose on ebay a few years back. It was the 2 piece replica & took a fair amount of work to fit right. Actually, I was interested to note someone on this forum is looking at producing a carbon fibre version! My first one has actually been damaged - so time to upgrade! Did the lime green colour as it was a colour used in 1972 + maybe I can get some Corona beer sponsorship
  24. Interested in carbon fibre ZG nose! Just when you thought you couldn't find another way of spending money on a Track Car - along comes a carbon fibre ZG nose option
  25. BTW - was this picture of you in my car your last motorsport outing?
