Hi Chris, Yeah I think I should be OK, 225s to 205s should be 10mm difference at the inside and out, meaning I should clear the spring perch by a couple mill. I guess it's possible that I could scrub on full lock but I don't think this is likely as Tim didn't have this problem. But, this brings me back to Tims thought of different depth hubs?? Couple more pics, I definitely need some lowered springs to get the look I'm after but still undecided on shocks. Ho-hum :-\ Cheers Mick

Looks great Chris I recently bought some 16x7s +20 from Tim (RB30X). 2 of the rims came with 225/50 tyres on them the others were wheels only. I have found that the 225/50 tyres just scrub on the lower perch when on the rear of my 240z 9/72 but foul so badly when fitted on the front that you can barely rotate the wheel. I contacted Tim to find out what suspension he was running and if he had had any problems. Here was his response. "Hi Mick, Yeah I had coil overs on my car but they weren’t any where near the spring perches. I’ve heard the wheel hubs between models can make wheels stick out more, for example the 16 x 8’s I bought fit mine no worries but wouldn’t fit another fellas with the same mods because he had 260 hubs and not 240 or something. You could try getting some 2nd hand 205’s fitted and see how they go. Some say to avoid wheel spacers, but they would solve your problems and make the wheel sit out more with the guards, and you aren’t racing it?? Maybe pop the question up on the forum and see what people say. Cheers Tim" As Tim suggested, I have bought some 205/50s but haven't fitted them yet, hope to get that sorted over the weekend. Hi John More impressive progress, it sounds like you have a very helpful engineer. I'm intrigued as to why the vehicle tare mass must be over 1100kg's also, what's the process behind the torsion and beaming tests? I notice your engineer talks about being to stiff, do you think it's possible you could have vibration or fatigue issues? Is that what your engineer is thinking? Love your work and good luck. On holiday in Fiji and picked up the latest Performance Import mag for some entertainment, not a bad read and it even had a pic of Stivva wearing his crazy tiger hat sitting on his Z but, it had nothing on this thread. Dave your ingenuity and attention to detail is incredible. Also your write ups are detailed better than a Haynes manual. Hi It looks like you have put some serious work into her so far, it's looking good. Do you have a plan for your finish date? I know the feeling of a long resto, I have an early Mini in the garage which is in the middle of a resto that has been going for about 13 years so far. When I look at her I think, I'll have another go tomorrow but it seems that tomorrow never comes. Maybe tomorrow.... That issue with Shox.com is a pain in the rear end. How long has it been going on for? I have been dealing with them lately, trying to get just the Illuminas without the springs. They seem OK so far. What motor do you plan on running? Thanks for your help Guys I spoke with Stuart Wilkins who says he has some 2nd hand ones with good bushes but is not sure about the breaker plate etc. I think the breaker plate is most likely the weakest link within this dizzy and once it is kuffed the stator leans over and then comes into contact with the reluctor causing further problems. I figure there is not alot of benefit in buying another dizzy if it has the same problem. Stuart also warned me about some of the stuff that he has seen sent from the States that were bought on the net, which makes me a bit nervous. I hear you, my local Nissan dealer was not amused at the idea of having to go upstairs and look at the microfische. And here was me thinking I was a paying customer!! They said the magnet and breaker plate might be available through Japan and would be an 11 week wait. I think they were trying to get rid of me, although I do have part numbers now and will try some other Nissan dealers. has anyone found a HELPFUL dealer. Hi Alan I spoke to my local Nissan dealer on Monday who suggested the breaker plate was $154 and the magnet $54 were both from Japan and a minimum of 11 weeks wait, depending on if Japan had them. I got the feeling they were just trying to get rid of me. That partsgeek site is great, have you ordered from them before? I notice that when you make it throught to the checkout there is no option for international postage. Is this your idea of having a US resident being the middle man for you? I am very interested in your idea with the breaker plate. What are your plans? How do you propose to separate the breaker plate and then press it back together? Because mine was in such a bad way when I pulled it out, it is difficult to understand exactly what it's purpose is. Thanks for your help Cheers Mick

Thanks Six Shooter, yeah she is pretty clean, lucky buy Tonight I rebuilt the points dizzy and stuck it back in until I can find the bits for the electronic dizzy. I will bypass the resistor and put in a new coil once the electronic dizzy is ready to go. From some info I found today, it should make a big difference to the spark produced. If anyone knows where I can find dizzy parts please let me know. Cheers Mick

Alan, How did you go with the dizzy parts, have you found them, still looking or found an alternate option? I.m looking for a bottom bush, breaker plate and magnet for under the stator. Had a great trip to the snow last weekend, driving the 240 was as much fun as the snow and the boozy nights!! The car drove without a hitch. Once I got home she had a bit of a miss and I could hear a bit of a noise coming from the dizzy so I pulled it out and found it very tight to turn so tonight I got stuck into stripping it down. I'm running an electronic ignition dizzy from a 280zx, not sure what year but the dizzy number is D6K8-02 I have found the bush at the bottom of the housing has a bit of play, the magnet under the stator is broken into a few peices and the breaker plate looks like it needs replacing, there is a gasket in the middle of the breaker plate that has disintegrated and there are 3 balls lying around the bottom of the dizzy body. It looks like the posts where the mechanical advance springs fix to are bent out a little bit, does anyone know if they are supposed to be perfectly vertical or is it normal for them to be bent out a little bit? Any suggestions on where I could find a new bush, magnet and breaker plate? Also I am still running the original 240 (points ignition) coil with resistor. I think I can bypass the resistor now that I am running the electronic dizzy but do I need to replace the coil, or is it OK to run a resistor type coil without a resistor? Any suggestions would be great. Looking forward to getting her back together for another cruise.

Could your car be running a bit rich? I know that when my car was running rich due to a high float level in the front carb, my Missus would complain that I smelt like petrol after I came home from a drive. She hasn't complained about that since I have dropped the float level. I do realise the problem of pressure systems and leaks into the cabin but if it's running excessively rich, the problem will be amplified. Just a thought. Mick

Luvemfast, are you happy with your Illuminas? I am looking at getting some from the US. I have got a quote from Chris at Shox for Tokico adjustable shock and spring kit for $669.00 + shipping $259.00, this seems to cheap to believe. I have read on some US Z forums that the front springs are progressive and seem to lower the car approximately 2 inches, this seems a bit much. I am more interested in the Illuminas but the package is to cheap to pass up so I would like to get the southern hemisphere's opinion before I buy. Any info from anyone regarding Tokico would be great Cheers Mick
