Well for many years I always cursed the Phillips screws on the Zed (Back in 1972 we used to say cheap Japanese S##t ) But I now stand to apologise on this issue I was around a a mates place and went to work on the zeds carby and borrowed his screwdriver it was tight and I said this was the first time it came out easily and unlike many times before I did not burr the head I mentioned this to him and was informed that the japanese had there own Philips head screwdriver standard.he also said that the screws of this type were not just on the carbys but throughout the car What a revelation but he also commented that most Bike mechanics and car mechanics that work on imported cars should know this I was in the electrical trades for 30+ years and I have never seen a tool stockist carry them He advised me to get the JIS #2 screwdriver but a quick look on Ebay most sellers are from the USA So now I have to get another couple to join my 20+ other screwdrivers but I believe they will be worth it as this issue has given me grief many times To view the difference check out the link Cheers Phil

Hi Gavin This brings again the issue of a section that is dedicated to service manuals/parts manuals I offered my info but it is still not generally available to members and I know that you have referenced it as a useful technical article Have you got a direction that we can all contribute as registered members and benefit the forum I understand that this info has large data constraints but surely there can be an solution that this data can be accessed PHIL

I heard about this one when I was working up at Lismore about 5 years ago with some guys from Casino as they knew I was into Z cars I was told about 7 years ago it was owned by a lady and was totalled in the Main Street in Casino and was then put on a transport and sent to Newcastle to be auctioned by the insurance company

I agree with the previous posts I have dealt with warren for years and to give you a portrait of him he is over 60 and Heath wise he has had operations a couple of years ago on his hips that were not 100 % successful which means that it is difficult to do the marathons His main business is repairs on site to hydraulics so that's why the shop phone is sometimes ringing out The Datsun parts have been a side business and his wife used to be at the shop when he was out in the field help out but I think not at all now Parts wise he has most things that you need (after market and Oem) and very knowledgeable as far as model compatibility I would contact him by mobile and see if he is at the shop and then arrange a time when he is there to get parts i have always received what I wanted Cheers pHil

Hi Fullnoisezed Also need to state year of 2+2 doors as they changed pre Oct 1976 post Oct 1976 doors are not interchangeable. heard many of a person caught out on this one cheers Phil

Hi Mine was given freely without conditions from a Nissan dealership There was never any intention for any commercial gain from the forum to its members for this information The people who are interested in this information have a interest in ensuring that the parts that they Aquire are suitable the respective models and that components that Nissan have left in there storage as we hear the statement NLA These are components that are 45 years plus old and I am sure under the FOI under Australian commercial business it would be available And sharing where appropriate does not stick it any more As there are very few experts left that can advise on what parts you are ordering and Nissan has commercially stopped a complete supply of necessary parts for vehicles I think that they do not put a high priority on their responsibility on the commercial bases of the S30 models Cheers phil

Gavin Service Bulletins are when changes are made to the models They highlight specific alterations made and are valuable when you have slight changes made in components and body also seating / mechanical and electrical etc one of the ones I have explains the extra padding to the seats as an example as his was early 70's it will highlight the serial numbers that these changes effected send me a pm with your gmail account and i can give you access to a PDF copy of RHD Australian parts manual to S30 HS240z/RS260z and GRS260z 1969-1979 inclusive HS/RS/GRS AU_U and all the revision up to December 1979 S130 280zx 1978-1985 SP/SR311 1600 Fairlady 1966-1969 I got these from a Nissan dealership a few years ago I now have them on my Google drive and will give you access and the forum can offer these to registered members Cheers Phil

Hi You need to know what your diff is as they are different hole centres for the r180 than the r200 In the 260z they had a r180 in the automatic and the manual had a r200 Cheers Phil

the reason for the conversation with Warren was that a set of new in box ( that he had 2 sets of) had just sold on Ebay in the States for USD $1350.00 ( Value was higher because of new in Box) Again value is in the beholder so if he still has them and you can match whatever he has set the price as I am sure you will never lose if you decide to sell on Cheers Phil

hi 12 months ago I was talking to Warren at his shop at Hornsby ALLZed and he said he had two (2) sets of S30 fender mirrors and he showed me one set that was still in the nissan box new If you are serious about buying a set I would give him a ring and whatever the price you will always get your money back as they are getting harder to find if you go to pass them on Cheers

I have a 1/75 and a 9/76 consul both have a choke indication light in the consul opposite to the demister on the RHS this was wired to a miro switch on the choke handle bracket the choke light is orange background and white lettering I can get a photo latter and post it if you want Also I have a datsun FSM that was published in japan OCT/76 that describes the Choke indication I will check what else is relevant and post as I also have an Aus dated parts manual that should indicate when it was put into the car and what revisions happened till 78 Cheers Phil

My understanding was that the front and rear strut bushes of the 260z (2 seater 74-77) are the same the early 2+2 74 front and rear was also the same as the 2 seater late 74 -77 nissan changed the 2+2 rear strut bushes to a higher rubber but the front struts bushes remained unchanged and remained the same as the 2 seater Cheers

As you replaced the 77 2+2 rear strut bushes (which are higher ) and put the 260z 2seater rear strut bushes in the rear 2 seater front and rear strut bushes are the same the 2 seater and 2+2 strut bushes front are the same why not swap the front that have the offset to the rear and the rear to the front as you only originally changed them over to get the 2+2 your road height to where you want it, and the neg camber at the back is not that critical and might suit Cheers Phil

Gavin The fan shroud was installed in 260z The shroud was in two parts that screwed together and was supported by the radiator that encompassed the fan to the motor Nissan Part no 21476 N4200 for upper part shroud Nissan Part no 21477 N4200 for lower part shroud I was lead to believe these were installed on car fitted with AC to assist in improving airflow through the ac condensor that was installed in front of the radiator Cheers Phil

Well Scott I have to say that this is an impressive build all the attention to to the smallest detail from the suspension / brakes and through to the panels and paint. I have enjoyed your posts and thanks for taking the time to share it with us I noticed that all the nuts and bolts and window/door mechanisms appear to be all nice and "SHINY" did you have them electroplated or did you do some other magic Cheers Phil

Like all tools maintenance is important with compressors the metal tank should have a relief valve at the bottom charge the compressor and then unscrew the valve to see if any water has collected in the tank if the water that floods out is very rusty and is a lot then the tank is rusting inside. this will give you an indication of the condition of the metal pressure tank. this is sometimes forgotten by users as a maintenance requirement this should be done every 6 months to release the water that is inside the tank that the air intake into the tank. the water capture valve is on the output that stops contamination of moisture into your attached tools and spray gun cheers Phil
