These are 79-83 280ZX analogue quartz clocks - according to Ron's "How to Identify 240Z-280ZX Clocks" page http://www.zclocks.com/identify-clock-types.html I have a 77-78 280Z clock with a face like this; Is the quartz movement in this type a suitable donor for a 240Z Jeco clock?

Hi Brad, I assume that you are still looking for a car to buy. You say that you are not sure that you like some of the original 260Z colours, so I am guessing that you do like some of the other colours. That being the case, you could pick any original colour, and buy a new paint code sticker (available on eBay) for the car. Apart from the paint code sticker, which is often missing, it is virtually impossible to prove what colour a 240Z or 260Z was painted. The colour is not included on build plates, compliance plates or original service booklets.

Hazard light switches were not fitted to Australian market 240Z's of any year. See this topic; http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/6506-240z-hazard-switch/ From post #31; "So, in summary, all you need to do to add hazard lights to an Australian 1973 240Z is; - Obtain a US hazard switch - Remove the loop-back connector from the 6 pin connector and plug in the US switch - Install a 12V flasher unit to the previously unused L-shaped two pin (one green and one white wire) connector near the blinker flasher unit. I would imagine that the same would apply to earlier 240Z's, using the appropriate vintage US hazard switch. They may even be interchangeable, because the 6-pin connector looks identical - just check the wiring diagram for your model."

I am following this topic with great interest. Scotty has a 260Z - so Alan is correct about the way the instrument lights work. 260Z tachometer < Click to see notes I just thought I would point out that 240Z's are not wired this way. In 240Z's, the power connects through the dimmer (rheostat) to the instrument light bulbs, and the bulb sockets are earthed through the metal body of each instrument. 240Z tachometer < Click to see notes

I think that the Rare Spares belts are made by APV Safety Products (Campbellfield Victoria - Toll Free: 1800 804 588) Aveska Restoration Parts (in Beverley SA) also sell the APV belts; http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/262832474979?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT I spoke to Aveska about a month ago and asked for details about how they fit in a 240Z - I have not had a reply as yet.

The 240zrubberparts.com page that I posted the link to shows that the faceplate has the chromed lettering and highlights. Did the faceplates that you bought not have this - or are you saying that it is not very well done (and should be redone to look right)? -

Gavin - I remember you mentioning the reproduction faceplates - did you ever get one? If so, what is your opinion of them? http://www.240zrubberparts.com/apps/webstore/products/show/5556500 -
Did you mean that you can or you can't see the difference Gareth? If you can see the difference - please explain.

Spotted this today; "Nissan 240Z-260Z S30 1969-79 (280Z) 5 speed g/box alloy bell housing new old stock (genuine)" 2 available @ $250.24 each (you might be able to haggle them down to $250) https://www.abouttimespares.com.au/showpart.asp?id=34836 PS - never heard it called a "gear bag" before -
It's a nice looking car - but the paint is not the original colour as claimed. The original 903 blue can be seen in the engine bay which has not been repainted.
