  1. I entered in 2009 (the Alpine only runs every two years) but was a DNS (Did Not Start) due to a still-born race engine (damn engine builder - no it wasn't me). I ended up spectating since I'd already paid for my accommodation. Some of the best spectating I've ever done!! Anyway, this year unfortunately I can't make it. So please enjoy it for me Jason!! May the sounds of the FJ24 120Y ring long into the Vic forests!!!
  2. Sorry I couldn't make it guys. I would have loved to have complimented your Silver and Red Zeds with a blue one. Hopefully next time...
  3. 5-Time Aust. Champ Ross Dunkerton giving it plenty!
  4. Tyres pressures Differences in front end geometry - Scrub radius, Toe, etc LSD or locked diff in the 280zx???
  5. You could try searching a little harder... Further down the engine page on these forums is this thread; http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,9761.msg97173.html#msg97173 http://www.crowcams.com.au/media/catalogues/42.1%20Nissan.pdf The link on that post (second link above) shows a profile for the 4-cylinder L-series 30832 which would probably make yours the equivalent of a 58832 even though they don't specifically list one. Based on that assumption, it would make the profile a 37/65 - 69/33 (Inlet - Exhaust) with 498 Thou valve lift.
  6. No offence, but some more detail in the ad might help... Diameter? Width? Offset? PCD? Number in the set?
  7. Despite this, the front splitter is still a long way off the ground??? Something doesn't look right to me. Maybe the wheels are too big - the bigger the rolling diameter the higher the car is from the ground and you run out of room to lower the car more and fit the larger wheels in the wheel arches (even with flared guards)...
  8. I'm not trying to be negative, but aren't there other fees and charges, besides GST and Import Duty?? BS like Customs Check fee, Port Landing fee, 'Some government department trying to make money' fee, etc. http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page5549.asp#Calculating http://www.daff.gov.au/aqis/import/general-info/fees-charges-import/import-clearance
  9. Although you wouldn’t get as much of a discount for ‘bulk’ purchasing (like Group Buying), maybe Dave from Arizona Z Car would be interested in offering a discount of some description to AusZCar forum members?? Say based on a list of AusZCar forum User IDs and Actual Names from Gavin or something??? Or by purchasers sending Dave from Arizona Z Car a link to their profile on AusZCar? Or any other method Dave may be interested in to verify AusZCar members... Just a thought.

    Spotto Sydney

I saw a light blue 260Z in the garaging area at Wakefield Park on Thursday. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to introduce myself and mention this forum....
  11. Gareth, There are other ways to reduce the ‘roll rate’, for example reduce the distance between the Roll Axis and the CoG of the Sprung Mass • Lift the front and/or rear Roll Centres • Lower the Centre of Gravity of the Spring Mass As opposed to increasing the roll resistance by • Increasing the spring rate front and/or rear (which you are actually doing) • Increasing the Anti-Roll Bar rate front and/or rear (which you are proposing) NOTE: Changing the front to rear roll resistance ratio changes the sprung mass 'weight transfer' distribution front-to-rear, which may be something to consider... Another thing to consider is that the diameter is multiplied to the power of 4 when calculating the torsional stiffness of an ARB. Fred Puhn’s book, How to Make Your Car Handle has a formula to calculate this. So small changes in the ARB diameter can have big affects. Also, one change at a time makes it easier to understand and ‘feel’ what affect it has had on the car’s behaviour. For what it’s worth, I’m running 24mm on the front and 18mm on the rear...
  12. Whittie, did it snap at the end of the threaded section or at the step where the larger washers sit? P.S. MS Paint for teh win
  13. Oh my god, fully sic uleh! I have watched too many re-runs of the show Pizza. Wait, what I meant to say was, it looks great Chris!

    Camshaft ID

I would suggest Part Number 58721 might be your cam. The 58 identifying the 6-cylinder L-series and the 721 identifying the profile (which is also available on the 4 cylinder L-series). http://www.crowcams.com.au/media/catalogues/42.1%20Nissan.pdf From my experience most cam manufacturers (or regrinders) stamp their ID number for the cam profile (part number, common reference like 76°, etc) or the actual inlet and exhaust opening and closing timing (40 80 80 40 for example) on the end.
  15. Like Gareth has pointed out, it depends on what you plan on doing with the car. If you are considering track days, etc then polyurethane bushes or spherical joints are a must for geometry control under pitch and roll. In my opinion, the polyurethane bushes really aren’t that harsh. A factor many people forget is how much ‘crush’ (preload) is put on the bush once the retaining nut is done up. Some poly bush kits have shorter crush tubes giving more preload on the bush. More preload = less give.
  16. Zedman, I assume the sump and oil pick-up could be swapped with those from an L28 with a rear mounted sump, or is the block itself different?
  17. Well done Jason, it should be a hoot for you! I can't help but feel this is an attempt by the organisers to try and improve what is an overpriced & under-delivering entertainment package for the spectators. Having been to a few WRC events over the years, the last Rally OZ was the worst by far.

    k-mac products

I have seen one or two sets of K-Mac Camber Tops with poor quality welds around the bearing retainer (for different models to the tops for a Zed) and as a result cracked with normal road use. They may have been an exception, I don't know...
  19. Shouldn't this be in the Suspension section?? The Tockico Illuminas I have appear to be more than up to the task. My only comments would be, make sure they are held in nice and tight, and surround them in light weight oil in the strut for heat transfer purposes. I have no experience with the Tockico spring but I can tell you the King Springs 'Low' (X5K type at least) use progressive springs on the front too.
  20. I am generally in favour of this option. The generous members on this forum take a risk every time they share information about what stuff they own or are working on Zeds, parts, tools, etc. Giving them place to be able to restrict the 'viewers' to members (either approved by a Mod or over a certain number of posts, i.e. 20), is a good security measure. I would like to think that it shouldn't be needed, but unfortunately there are people in society that believe it is their right to fugg over the rest of us.
  21. Pete, I am sad and pissed off on your behalf. These kinds of people are the scum of the earth. I'll be sure to keep an eye out for the parts on the other forums I'm a member of, and any 'classifieds'. I'll let you know immediately if I see or hear anything.
  22. Hahaha I think mine was for 'Fastest Blue Zed with the number 49'.
  23. Just concourse awards or track day trophies as well??
  24. Well done Chris!!
  25. Ever wondered how F1 and WRC teams get the most out of each cylinder for every combustion?? By using the spark plug as a knock sensor. They use the spark plug to measure the conductivity of ionised gases during combustion. Different profiles identify different events in the combustion, such as 'knock' or a misfire. For more check out this site. http://delphi.com/manufacturers/auto/powertrain/gas/ignsys/ionized/ I just need to work out how to incorporate this into a Datsun L-series engine EFI system cheaply...
