it all about the challenge .and a pasion for the z, it a grate ride enjoy the challenge
  3. it hapend mid race at the island and it went from 70 psi to 25psi and at 7000rpm all bearings died the reason for no oil presser the BB from the valve has worked its way in to the oil passage and closed it of
  4. it a customer from my shop with a mad 240z :'(
  5. not nice to find this in the oil filter and all the bearings have failed . i was not a fan of replacing the p r v with a plug before as i have not had one fail in 10 years of playing with L28 s . I have allways replaced the valve with new one when building new engines, so this was not nice to find .so i will be taping all engines from now on, with 3/8npt pipe plug
  6. yer nice way to clean the area up and get the air to go ware i need it, the brake duct will work a treat .

  8. Hi All, Just thought i would do a bit of an update coz it has been a while...... Over the last 3 days i have nearly pulled all my hair out wiring the car, i was going to get my auto lec friend to do it but he was to busy so i had to nut it out myself..... Not really my forte but it is done now.
  9. you may have a bent or sticking valves i think it time to take the head of and have it repaired by a pro.
  10. yer it hard to give addvice and try to explane things to people that have not got the experience and time under the bonnet i find it very hard to give a simple explanation to a very complex problem with out sounding like a prick...
  11. yer it nice when the valves are the same height it makes the job a hole lot nicer. its when you put a cam in a engine that has been around and you have to have 12 diffrent shims that when you earn the big bucks....hahhah
  12. Dazzed and Salty you are both correct in what you are saying the valves do have to be exactly the same height to start with but the lash pads need to be individually fitted as there is no predetermined thickness lash pad to use with a reground cam because many variables effect the thickness needed. The only sure way to determine the correct lash pad thickness is to check the cam lobe wipe pattern on the rocker arm rubbing pad. Therefore it must centered other wise the wipe pattern will go off one end of the rubbing pad resulting in the destruction of the cam lobe and rocker arm. There is all so other checks that help, i like to be sure that i have the same lift with a dial indicator if you have diffrent lift numbers you have not done it right. As your rocker arm ratio will not be right, the max variation between valves should not vary by more than 0.005 inch
  13. yer you would think the LS would have problems but they don't There block and crank are nice and short and stiff mind you when i turbo them and get 450kw they tend to leak.. and there is so Meany clutches out there for the LS you can get them at the milk bar. yer clutches for L series not so Meany good ones for big hp but they can be found if you are willing to pay.the AP racing one in my car was $3000 trade .you get wot you pay for some times... as with most in line 6 cylinders the length of the crank is its down fall flex and torsional vibration are very hard to deal with at hi rpm for any lenth of time
  14. l26 and l28 same crank and all of them have the same problem
  15. The real fix would be to stiffen up the crank. On my new motors i have been getting the crank de stressed and nitrided, and also i am running a girdle with studs to hold it all in place.
  16. no Nissan got this OK on the L-series the 2 breathers work just fine. The only way you can make it better is to run a vacuum pump and run negative pressure in the sump which will help to seal the rings and all the other seals and this is good because it helps to make a bit more HP. This is the reason why dry sumps are so good.
  17. hay gordo this is the problem with big hp l28s the seal will be out of round. the problem is the crank flexing the last two l28 that i have built i measured all the bearings after they had dune 25 hours and found the front top bearing had 3tho wear and the rear bottom bearing was the same and the rear mane was not good . the other problem with them is the crank can bend with big rpm as i have found out lately.
  18. yes i will admit your chev is one horn sounding thing but i love the L series ......
  19. Hi all. to all that attended kyles ferwell today thank for making it a celebration of friendship. as i left today i felt better for knowing him and all of you.
  20. the problem is not the rocker the pics tells the story the rockers are not adjusted properly ps the rockers do need resurfaced but they are not the problem pps the lash pads are to big as the adj posts are to low
  21. sorry i bought the last sets from Dave . and he can not get them anymore. he had 60 sets and sold them in 6months best if you get a set of second hand ones and get them resurfaced at wade cams they normally cost $12 each from memory
  22. ha is that a l28 going by ... i think your bros car mite be faster than your chev.......
  23. hi Gareth i will need your extractors as they will need a bit of work
