  1. Have you got a windscreen in good nick to fit a 240 or 260 ? Windscreens O'briens have sold out and don't plan on getting any more unfortunately, I've placed my NOS rubber on the car but it's getting lonely as all get out
  2. That was bad luck six shooter, no doubt the insurance repairer will do the necessary diagonal checks to the engine bay and subframe, you can do a spot check yourself with a tape measure and straight-edge...tape for distance between subframes and straight-edge for straightness of your pass side subframe More likely your radiator frame will need checking for squareness to firewall, both horizontal and vertical My own story and a somewhat amusing: I once owned a large 30's American car with usual strong front bumper bar semi circular in shape...well a guy in his modern hack backed into my beast, right up against the bumper which just sprung back into shape Ho Ho, but his car's rear was extensively caved in, I almost felt sorry for him Pete
  3. So are the brackets on the transmission hump for the console and fuse box, I know because I had to cut off 260 ones (replacement rust free body) and weld on the 240 ones from my first rust bucket It's not such a big job but they must be correctly aligned before welding Pete
  4. A trick that usually works good for small rust holes Tim is soldering neat little bits of clean sheet metal underneath and building the solder up so it can be filed of on the outside of the panel, sounds a bit bodgy but if it's done where the repair can't be seen with rust proofing or insulation it's an inexpensive, quick and effective way to ensure the panel remains all metal It's conducive to lead wiping except you're filling a small hole Pete
  5. Previous message about complete 240z centre console, well it went for US$590 One NOS washer bottle, 2 days 23 hours to go, current bid US$274...I paid more than that for mine http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230499710702&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_2648wt_1167
  6. If this is the one you're after then I've got a spare to sell but there's no nylon bush in it Pete
  7. And to think that I started out just making a set for own Zed, I was prepared to go to all the trouble of making a set of moulds for my two boots only 'cause they're holding me up from finishing the rear part of the car, I want to get the hatch door on and then move on to other things like doors and front guards, hope I get there!. The car has always been a long term project though Pete PS in some months to come I'll start a project thread in Project forum, gotta clean up garage first for good pics
  8. Well fun & games last Sun, as promised I'm posting how pouring of hinge boot mould went, long story short the mould needs modifying to prevent tearing of newly cured rubber, but boot looked spectacular however it wasn't quite complete which means an improved pouring hole (sprue) is required also....it's coming along, I'm pretty excited about yet another Datsun rubber (set in this case) about to become reality Pete
  9. How about a new complete 240 center console includes ashtray and fuse-box with cover and wiring, only US$425 so far with 4 days 16 hours to go....the last one which was minus those extra bits went for US$478....that's a lot of aluminium cans! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320560970277#ht_500wt_1182
  10. No worries nizm0zed Pete
  11. Thanks Zedman, yes my conversation with Ron at Z factory revealed that as well, Ron called it a "flap" in the front of the air cleaner....but since I've got a doubt about OZ zeds having a sticker I'll refrain from buying one from o/seas, I think zeddsaver was telling me a fib, but he had me over a barrel a bit because he's holding an item I bought and now trying to sell me decals to send with it...not falling for that one, I'll pass Pete
  12. Got you down Datto, you're on the list....I managed to buy a decent digital scales today, visited all the retailers around here, Good Guys, Bing Lee etc but Big W had the only scales that fitted the bill...luckily the display one had batteries in it, I had a standard weight in my pocket and was able to test the scales accuracy, it was spot on....got a beautiful chrome base too, shaped in such a way it could almost be used in the Zed with a digital clock fitted Gotta watch those other retailers though, some of their goods including their scales are way over priced...allowing for haggling I suppose but if customers are silly enough to pay the $70 to $100 for a small set of scales jazzed up with a bit of stainless steel, good luck to them If all goes well I'll be pouring in the mould tomorrow, I'll post how it works out, these moulds are the most complex ones I've attempted yet, the only way I could plan them for easy separation from the finished rubber part was to make them in 5 parts, each mould Pete
  13. Kent I'll put you on the list, I've finished the drivers side mould but there's been a delay in testing it because a digital scales I bought for weighing the liquid turned out to be a dudd so ordering another one this weekend...I can keep going though, starting to make the passengers side mould this weekend also I used to use a set of kitchen scales years back, still got them but they're not accurate anymore so trying latest technology now...when I finally get a good digital one that is, the woes of buying cheap stuff, putting in a few more dollars this time to buy something decent Pete
  14. Phoned Ron at Z Factory today he seems to think that 72 240s' didn't have decal stickers on the air cleaners, he may be right, I checked my old air cleaner for tell tale signs of the out line of a sticker but there's none, then again it's pretty old so maybe all signs are gone now anyway through washing/polishing Does anyone have a mate who's into concourse stuff ? could you ask them about air cleaner stickers please, thanks Pete
  15. I was born in 2074, I'm now -64 and getting stronger every day.......Wow you should have seen the 2051 Zed, really something to squiz at, I should have bought one when I had the chance
  16. Well I finally found a topic in Technical-Bodywork named "Decals" May 2009...found it on the internet and traced it back to this Auszcar forum, it's a year old now and says "start new topic", seems I've done the right thing, but searching here didn't find that old thread, what gives Gav ? (I was interested in reading any old threads, not posting in them, after Salty was reprimanded) Supplier in old tread is the same one I'm communicating with (zeddsaver) so air cleaner decal can be view here... http://www.zeddsaver.com/decals/air%20cleaner%20label.jpg Pete
  17. Fellas, a supplier in Canada is telling me that factory air cleaner decals are the same on all year model 240s', in Oz and US, even when there's emission control stuff on the decal, is it true? I don't have one so I wouldn't know Appreciate any other info on decals if you could, like where to get decals for Aussie Zeds Pete
  18. "stock standard, how it was from the factory"...correction - lol I just realized, the torn floor wasn't done in the factory...but I bought the car new and after about 4 yrs the seat was leaning over to one side, couldn't figure it out so investigated and that's when I sprung the weak single layer sheet metal floor the seat was bolted too, that's why it was so easy to fit large flat reinforcing plates I just tried a 7/16" fine thread tap in my seat belt top anchor hole and it screws in ok, a bit firm but could be the Taiwanese tap Pete
  19. You might be right Zedman....a 10mm bolt which is a little smaller than 7/16 screws in just a bit too easily A quick story; I owned a Cortina once, the seat belts were ok, but the driver seat worked it's way through the floor, stock standard, how it was from the factory...I had to remove seat, repair torn floor then made up 2mm thick gal steel reinforcing plates 8" by 8" and bolt seat back in....never owner a ford since
  20. Now that's an engine ! think I'll do a cardboard cutout, sit it in my engine bay and just dream
  21. Well he COULD work 7 days a week Chris, you'd have to inspect one evening, did you ask that? keep trying Looking at the photos I'd say the first owner looked after this 280 and probably the second owner if there was one before this seller got it, and his eBay feedback is consistent with this 280 add, meaning he's been selling vehicles under $1,000, feedback is 100% as well But check out the panel gaps, pretty even, don't look like the bonnet or hatch have ever been off it also the car looks complete, If I was right into these ugly 280s' I'd be having a good go at winning that auction Pete
  22. Well there's no reserve so sweat it out for 6 days, it looks fairly straight, probably good for a long term project, then ask the fellas here who own 280s' questions about it as you go Pete
  23. It's a problem isn't it, I've been rackin' my brains what to do about the crack in my dash, I'm not all that fussed about a half dash cap, from what I've seen they don't fit properly or maybe the owner didn't fit it right...I'd be more inclined to use a full cap but where do you get em? that's the question I've thought of the idea of stretching an ultra thin vinyl over the whole dash and glueing it on but then again where to get a flexible rubber like black thin vinyl about 0.2 - 0.3 mm thick Another idea is to just glue a drinks tray over the cracks lol or fill the cracks with fertile soil and grow some roses for the chicks....plenty of ideas come to mind when faced with a mission impossible Pete
  24. Old topic but the US heater panel should be the same and if your Aussie mechanism bolts straight on the back of US panel you can buy stickers "Heater", "Vent", "Room" in reverse for Aussie panel Anyone who wants to know where to get these stickers just post Pete
  25. The only place I know where to get Zed right hand drive caps is Datsunparts.com in the States but only for 240 and any other Zed that that cap fits, they quoted me $300 freight...you could email them and find out if they possibly know who might sell caps over there for a 280....Datsunparts sell mainly 1600/2000 Roadster stuff http://www.datsunparts.com/Z-Car-Parts Pete
