  1. It's got me worried now, I won't be happy till I spot that car again, on the road or in a pic...the reason I have no doubt it was a Zed is because the pillar emblems were in exactly the same place and the same size as earlier Zeds Stevo, your car looks great mate, spend much time getting those bumper bars to look so shmick ? Pete
  2. Do they have a parallel rubber gasket or a tapered one...I've got one spare body of the parallel gasket type, it has a small bulb...and I have one body of the tapered gasket type with a bayonet fitting but it's rusted through along one edge
  3. Maybe it wasn't a 370, googling them up on screen they don't have pillar emblems...perhaps someone could tell me what I WAS following ? it was definitely a very late model Zed, slanting taillights, silver colour but had flashing turn indicators behind it's pillar "Z" emblems I have a new set of plastic "Datsun" fender emblems if you're interested, cost me a fortune, I'll sell them at a loss but you won't like that price either
  4. After you've made up your mind about the badges, run some wires up to your pillar vents and have flashing indicators behind the emblems...magic, saw them flashing on a 370 the other week, thing I'll install some on my 240 Pete
  5. An old one, especially if it's been on the lock for decades is likely to be hard and brittle therefore could break while removing it (it needs to be stretched over the location keys on the lock to remove it) You could try using a large wad punch to stamp out a piece of tyre tube or other suitable rubber then use a scalpel type knife to cut the little squares out If you don't possess a wad punch the right size, try scissors for the outer diameter, cut the inner diameter and key squares with a scalpel then clamp two washers either side of the roughed out gasket, using a bolt and nut to tighten the washers, this will allow you to grind the gasket using a bench grinder or linisher to remove the rough scissor cuts and make the gasket round and presentable Pete
  6. Yes I found one that was surplus to my needs so you can take a squiz, this one was made years ago. I got the mould out of hibernation today and dusted it off, also checked availability and the latest price of the liquid from the supplier, had a heart attack...but I hasten to add that when used properly and with additives, the parts become very affordable, it's a labour of love anyway, anything for a Z !
  7. It's not hard to fail with that stuff, I just kept going with it till I learnt all the secrets...but don't worry, all in good time you'll have new set for your car...the first pair hot out of the oven will be for my Z, the second are promised to a guy in States...then I'll just continue making more for the locals on here
  8. Picture of Hatch Hinge Boot in usable condition
  9. Thanks, I've read right through that help page and the photo I'm trying to post conforms in every way, it's only 84kb so now I'm figuring out how to transfer it successfully to the message window...I've got an iMac computer, that could be the problem
  10. Nope, didn't work so I need advice
  11. Apparently these boots came in different sizes, I have several smaller boots which fit the 240 and probably the 260, they're the ones I'm making but I also have one that's are slightly larger and this is it in the photo, it's usable but like all the rest I have here it's got small tears which allow water to seep through I hope the photo transferred into here ok, this is my first attempt, if it doesn't work I'll have ask how it's done...I dragged and dropped it but only info showed in the preview /Users/MacMood/Desktop/IMG_0600 2.JPG
  12. oops I just had to whizz off and attend to other business but as soon as I get started making the hinge boots I'll post when they'll be available but first I must finish the moulds...I'm already half way through the right side one so I need to finish that then start the left side Interestingly I also used to make small metal casting for roadsters...they were sold in Japan through a middleman...but they are readily available in the States now I noticed Pete
  13. Believe me, for an old guy like me that introduction took more effort than restoring my Z...anyhow thanks for the welcome, I hope I can be of help in some ways, I'm handy with liquid rubber and have a mould for making hand brake lever rubbers on the backing plates and currently making moulds for hatch hinge boots
  14. G'day, I'm Pete and it seems I've jumped the gun...posted a topic in "Wanted" before introducing myself...such is the anxiety I feel at times when I'm desperate for parts ! only heaven knows why I didn't collect heaps more years ago when I had the chance to obtain them easily, I've had the car for ten years and it all started from a nostalgia trip...you see, back in the '70s a friend said "Have a drive of this"...pointing to his near new 240 and handing over the keys So I had a drive and the acceleration blew me away plus I thought the styling was, lets say different from the square look of most Japanese cars at the time but obviously it was meant to be a hard top sports car...the real funny thing was though, that my friend never said anything about the engine and I didn't open the bonnet so for years after fair dinkum I kept thinking how quick and lively that "four cylinder" was drrrrr Ten years ago my finances looked good so I searched for a 240, by this time yep I knew they had another two cylinders but in my neighborhood I found two cars available, bought the one I though was the best prospect for resto, however, a nine inch angle grinder was the only tool I needed to finish that job...so the search was on for a rust free shell Damn, I found one ! at Sportsclassic but alas someone had taken an oxy nibblers and cut out the tail light openings for some reason...OK so I implanted the ones from my first 240 which solved that problem...I spent a month of Sundays precisely cutting and shutting and you can't tell the difference now that it's finished The new shell came with doors, front guards, radiator and a multitude of small items, lucky for me because the doors and guards on my first Z were shot...(I've never seen so much iron oxide in one car before as was in my first Z, everywhere I looked there was either body filler or fibre glass matting, even the roof frame was held together by FG/matting), the car must have been parked near salt water 24/7 ! The diff was very noisy so I'm going to machine out the housing to fit a second double row pinion bearing to replace the weak single row one, then reset the gears The car is being converted from auto to manual, again thanks to Sportsclassic who supplied the 5 speed box and Pick & Payless wreckers where I obtained pedals from the only Z I've ever seen in that yard...sorry I didn't rip a few more parts off that Z, it was a 260 but it had a straight rust free front guard so bought that, paid the going price not knowing what I'd do with it ....better stop rambling on I think PS many thanks to the posters in my wanted topic who advised me about obtaining a windscreen, seems I was fretting over nothing
  15. Sure ! my name is Pete and I'll scurry off now to ramble on in "Introductions"...once again thanks for assistance
  16. That's fantastic news, I was pretty concerned about the availability...I've been out of the vintage resto game for a while now and didn't even know that US ebay had 240 parts, I'd been watching Oz ebay and all I got was an air cleaner element, I was wondering how damn long it was going to take to restore the this Z You've been a big help fellas - thanks, I'll keep you posted how I get on about the windscreen I'll have some left over parts for sale when I get them sorted out
  17. Is it that easy mr240z ? sort of takes the fun out it...you're the second person that's suggested that to me so first thing Monday morning I'll contact O'Brien's...I simply didn't believe it though, I've read windscreen web sites and couldn't find any inkling that they could supply one for a 240
  18. G'day, new poster here, I've been searching Australia wide for a windscreen to complete my collection of parts for my '72 240 which started with only a rust free body, well rust free except for some pin holes in the floor and doors, also some remnant parts from a previous 240 that turned to brown dust, you know what I mean but the old windscreen in that car was so badly scratched it had to go, along with the rest of the body The restoration is coming along nicely, I've bought many NOS parts at great expense but now I feel that if I can't obtain a windscreen the car will be in limbo for who knows how long ! I would be grateful for any clues to direct me find one or if you have one for sale please contact me, I am willing to pay freight from anywhere in Australia Thanks
