  1. There is another book that may be of some help and this has history about Australian clubs and some of their members . A Legend in its Own Time “ Zcar” By Ben Millspaugh He was a guest speaker at the 1993 Z Nationals in Sydney. Lynne also features in this book
  2. I got some colourbond roofing if you need it Greg?
  3. I don't think anyone here will be able to give you a definitive answer, on which is the best. We all have our reasons why one is better than the other. However at Z nationals in the standard classes the 280ZX does well for itself. As a practical car the 2+2`s do stand out .But ask any Z owner to get into the back one. Well that's when the biting, scratching , clawing and screaming will start. From a practical point of view they have the best performance dollar value of any sports car. A good example was in 2010 at a QLD club day at Lakeside .There was a Ferrari 360 in a group of Hyundai ‘s. They could catch him on the corners but not get pass him . He was not happy about being monstered by them and asked to be moved into the group of Z’s. The track owner's said" No". They are here as a club group and cannot be broken up . Besides they will eat you alive and use your bones to pick their teeth. After that he packed his bags and went home and that is what owning a Z all is about.
  4. You know you don't need to be a plumber to have an account to get gas . It also wouldn't hurt to have both tools around. Just do not take the empty bottles in with you then you open your account . Then take the empty bottles back within seven days and there should be no hire fees unless the system have changed.
  5. Hi Lars Good to have you on board and if your wondering, it is worth it. But we would tell you that any way. You have set yourself a high goal . Good luck with that . What mods do plan to have? Aub
  6. I bet you got your Christmas and birthday presents as one gift as a child and now you make a big thing out of two separate gifts for this time of year. If you don't, then you should. Happy Birthday Jason
  7. A few more pics
  8. That was a great day . I was glad to see the weather hold for as long as it did for us . Peter's skills on the BBQ are now legendary. I am guessing that everyone found Steve's salt racer interesting. If you found the course interesting you may want to do it with questions which have to be answered about things on the course and do it at night in winter.I do not recommend installing a bank of aircraft landing lights to this as some other car clubs see fit to do so. I need to thank a number of guys who came to the rescue when the exhaust system decided it had had enough and left going up Mt Tambourine. Five minutes and it was all wired back up in place and I was back on the road . However I fear someone's wire fence may be about to collapse at any moment . To everyone who attended you made it a great day thank you
  9. Rain will not be a problem . It just adds to the fun. Low level cloud on Tamborine well that's a another matter. I did the run in the rain yesterday and there may be some pools of water from time to time but that's about it. It will be market day when we go through and on the tourist strip is a model car shop which has 1 lemon yellow 1:18 scale die cast 240Z for $65 . The course is shorter now as we will be cutting out Beaudesert.
  10. Look's as if Peter has the BBQ well under control . It may not have escaped everyone attention but it is hot at the moment . So you will need to check the cooling system on your car and make sure your brakes are in good order. There will be some up and down hills on this cruise . Yes Z's do sound good through a rain forest.
  11. The diff looks good Peter. Don't do what I did and try and catch it if it falls or looks as if it could roll off it's lifting cradle. It will make short work of your fingers.I still have a scar after ten years on.
  12. Guys I know all this has it place . But have a look at the title .It says CHRISTMAS PARTY. I want to go for a drive with other Z's . Look at fancy machinery that I will never be able to afford. Then chow down on some of Peter's fine Steak & hamburgers .With the possibility of a game of pool. We can deal with politics in the Board room. Should anybody still want to go on this run it will be as follows : Start: Fitzy’s Tavern Car Park Loganholm 8.30 AM 11/12/2011 Cnr Bryant’s Rd &Pacific Hwy Loganholm Proceed south on M1 to Oxenford. Turnoff and exit onto route 95 . Turn Right off Eagle heights RD onto Geissman Rd route 95 on to Tambourine village .Proceed from Tambourine village on route 92 to Mundoolun turn off. Proceed to Mt Lindesay Hwy and turn left and proceed to Cedar Grove RD. Turn Right on to Cedar Grove Rd and turn left onto Deltoro Rd . Stop for viewing of competition cars for 1 hour . Photo and pics. Follow Mt Lindesay Hwy to Cable camp rd turn right to Waterford-Tambourine Rd turn left .Follow onto Kingston Rd over Logan river and turn right onto Logan Lea Rd and on to Loganholm. Possible toll road This is a rough draft and final direction will be available on the day. We need Mr Sushi to give us a deposit account for the $10 per head to cover the food and attendance numbers and we will be in business. Merry Christmas
  13. Yeah soon still working on some details . But the run will be around 140km . I still have to twist some arms to see what I can get.
  14. bullzed you may want to google a mob called CARTECH . They may have something that could interest you with a triple setup blow throw. It is for a turbo but I see no reason why a super could not be fitted.
  15. Yeah The trick is so I am told is to do that while driving on marballs on a surface as hard as glass after a good nights sleep . Keep in mind the original land owners may want you off their grounds at any time and they have their own unique way of getting there message across. You could look at it as a challenge Jason.
  16. 139.919mph or near enough in F/GT class .I think it was done at Lake Gairdner. We will post some pics at Christmas time of us behind it Looks like the 11/12/2011 is the day .I will pm Taylor and Peter to finalize details for the day.
  17. Why not combine all three . Meet at Taylor`s place for the start of a run over Tambourine and up to Jimboomba to view the Salt cars (he has some dead Z`s that are in need of Resurrection as well) and back to Peters place for the Barbecue on the 4th December. Could this work? Shaun I am now out of my comfort zone, may be Greg can help out with a survey? Aub
  18. Peter I am between Canterbury College and Fitzy`s off the Waterford -Tambourine road . I feel we should leave the final decision on what we do and who's place its at up to Steve and Sean (no pressure). They have been good at it over the pass couple years. But I will need to let Bridgey know if we are going to have a look at the salt car. He is also a forum member . Perhas a personal e-mail to all QLD members on this event.
  19. Sounds like there will enough interest in having a Christmas party. Sunday may be the day of choice and there are three in December excluding Christmas day. So I will throw my hat in to host as well . I am at Waterford near Beenleigh. We could meet near Dream World for a cruise over MT Tambourine down to Beaudesert and up to Jimboomba. Stop for a short spell to see the 260Z that holds the land speed record for its class in Australia and a F100 that will do almost 300kph. Then back to Waterford for a BBQ. The boys from the Z club QLD who are part of this forum will find out about this anyway. They don't hold Christmas parties and some of their members will want to come along. I am one of them
  20. Its a bit far to travel to VIC for a Christmas party. Although I am sure all would have a good time . So with that in mind do the QLD members put on there own party again this year?

    Cooling an L28

If your not losing water it sounds like it may be just something little you may have over looked .If you use a thermostat it could be broken. If your radiator looks a bit second hand then there is agood chance some of the vanes may be blocked . Easy way to check this is to run the engine up to temp and feel the outside of the radiator (do not put your hand near any fans they hurt) it should be hot all over . If it is not then you have found your problem . If that is the case you need to replace it . Z radiators are expensive no matter how you look at it. So if you plan to have the car for some time ,spoil your self and get something good . If your like most of us and need to go to the Minister of finance. Tell her X dollars for a new radiator or 10 x X dollars for a new engine. Works for me

    Cooling an L28

All previous comments are correct . However I run about 160 to 170 rwhp with a 3 core z radiator and a Z31 electric fan . It stays cool under racing conditions on the hottest QLD days . So I feel you may have a water leak some where as our cars are old . First establish that it is not losing water with a visual inspection of the whole motor. All hoses and if you have a heater that needs to be checked. If this is all fine do a compression test . If a cylinder is down it may be showing a leaking head gasket or cracked cylinder bore. There are many things that it could be . But if it is losing water and you can not see or fine any leaks then it is finding its way into the combustion chamber. I know that I may not be full of good news but this is all I can offer. Best of luck
  23. There is no way I would suggest that PI be dropped in favour of a rally. I personally have not run at PI but would love to .Guys from the QLD Club say it has to be experience or your life will not be fulfilled. I am just putting forward add two events which seem to be of interest to Nissan datsun owners. Drifting in QLD is big going by the entries at the paper clip raceway. The ratio is about 8:1 for Nissan's to other makes. I am hopeless at drifting .I just seem to break things and Iam tired of changing gear boxes and diffs along with bent exhaust valves. But it does make a good spectator sport . Theres nothing like the smell of burning clutch um rubber to brigthen up your day. Sponsorship is a difficult subject . It is all about timing . You will find that only 1 in a 100 organizations will part with cash for this type of event. However it may be around 1 in 10 that will part with product. How this product is used to cover costs is up to the organizers . As an example the QLD Club celebrated the 40th anniversary of the 240Z with sponsorship from Nissan Australia. No money changed hands but about $2000 worth of product was on hand .Everyone who entered received something and a pewter keyring for every club member. Nissan had no interest in our LAPZ event but Autobarn, Silverstone and others did .Once again every one who entered received something and we had Raffles to cover costs. Sirpent your observation are correct and I am one of them . This is why most entrants to these type of events make a final decision to enter more than 12 months out from the event . It is important to get the message out there early. Qld Z is sending two groups to PI for the relay event in August 2012 . Whos going was made 2 months ago. This why there was a very poor showing from QLD Z Club at the 2011. The message was to late.
  24. It seems the future of Z nationals is dead . So be it . I find this sad as other Nissan Datsun Marques have there own Nationals .The Sporties and Skylines are but two.I must admit the thought that a Z owner would boycot a Z National event because it was not a Nissan-Datsun event never entered my mind at the first Z Nats in 1990. But things change and making sure it is good change is the hard part . Alan will have his hands full with NDN13, been there done that.So to add to some of the good ideas that are already on this thread . The Nissan-Datsun Nationals need to be standardize. A set of rules that can be followed by other hosting States or(ACT) Territories. These need to be as simple as possible and must be fair to all models of the Marque. They have to be broad enough to take in possible future models. For example classes by age pre 60,70,80 etc and CC for motorsport event. Concourse along the same lines and rules. Easter does not always have to be the date for Nationals .It was something I used in 1990 because it suited me. To take change to an other level. Perhaps the event can be broaden to include events like DRIFTING and a TARGA style tarmac event. These 2 events are very big with nissan owners of all makes. We did have a navigation event in 1990 and I remember it well as I broke my foot on the course. This would also involve extending the the numbers of competition days from two to four days .I would also lengthen the duration of Nationals from two (2) years to four (4) years. No one really has an interest in World championships which are held every year . But a world cup Rugby or Soccer um Football or Commonwealth Games and the Olympics. They are events you make time to be at as you may only get one shot to attend. To cover the cost of Hosting such a festival would involve input on a National level . This would also commit the other States to advertise the event and make sure there were adequate numbers attending .Shares could sold to other Nissan clubs to raise funds to cover upfront costs and deposits to acquire venues .I am sure there would be a wealth of information on how to run these events in the membership of other clubs .
  25. I may be wrong on this. But have there been any Z only Nationals since 2003. They seem to have become Nissan Datsun Nationals open to all makes of Nissan- Datsun models. Through the 90`s there were Z only Nationals with other nissan-datsun makes invited to take part. But in whole it was a celebration of the Z series cars . I have been told that there is not enought interest from Z owners to justify a Z only event. There would not be the numbers to cover its cost to put on. Can this be true and there be no more Z Nationals?
