  1. Are you sure thats an R200? Looks a lot different to the two I pulled out of my 280zx's. mine didn't have a bolted flange where the cv's go in, the cv's looked thicker and the diff looked wider. unless it's just the pics?
  2. How, I got the rb26 stuff for very cheap, and motorcycle t/bodies will still need a custom manifold.
  3. I've scored some GTR RB26 throttle bodies and a plenum and I'm looking at what is required to engineer these to a Z head. The throttle bodies themselves are about 45mm ID and the intake ports on my L28 head are 35mm. This means that the manifold which will have to look similar to one of these: will have tapered ports. Another thing is the throttle bodies themselves are not equally spaced. They are in three banks of two, where as the DCOE manifold look like the center of each port is exactly the same distance apart across all six ports. The RB26 throttle bodies are spaced (from center of port) 95mm - 105mm - 95mm - 105mm - 95mm etc. So my question is does anyone have any close up pics, specs or tech drawings of DCOE manifolds or factory efi inlet manifolds such as L24E or L28E so I can see which ones would be easier to track down to chop up in order to make my own custom one? Thanks
  4. Thats exactly what I did, check my project. Needles stay the same I'd imagine. You'll spend a lot longer trying to set up the wiring and ecu then carbs thats for sure.
  5. How do you go through a balancer?? Standard ones last longer than the car itself?
  6. That's your most vital piece of info right there.
  7. Is there any other way?? The only reason I shirted up on occasions is when I had to get under the car and lay on the cold floor.
  8. i have some, but they are maroon
  9. but is it TDC after the inlet stroke but before the exhaust stroke?
  10. I actually doubled the speed five times, I don't really work that fast silly
  11. Someone heard through the Townsville grapevine that I had a running L28 (two actually) and wanted to buy one. So I sold them the one I had in the Z atm. Today I pulled the L28 out and swapped all the carbs, manifolds, plugs, coolant piping, dizzy etc over onto the original L24 but tapped the whole thing for a youtube vid...... why I don't know. Enjoy:
  12. are they yours kalium?? They seem to have two injector ports.
  13. Ok Lurch you can do my floor pans and some other rust repairs. I'll kindly offer you a sleeping bag in my shed. When can you start.
  14. terrible photos, fuzzy on the details, no engine bay pics?
  15. Can't wait to see this go together. Where will you source pistons from. Be sure to post all those details up cause I'll be heading down this path soon hopefully.
  16. wow I love that colour. reminds me of Elenor the Stang.
  17. I know you arn't in QLD but for a price example I just sold my L28 that was running in my car for $400. Just the long motor, no gearbox, carbs, manifolds, starter, pulleys etc. They seem to be rare up here too when you actually want one.
  18. If you are talking about butt welding pieces of guards and panels to each other than a tig would be perfect. I find them slow (when I do it) but then I have seen korean welders at work weld big stainless pipes very quickly and with amazing looking welds. I would use the mig for joining sections like tack weld joins and anything above 1mm thick.
  19. Can anyone help with where the long strip sections in the last three pics go?
  20. In the US, advertising on NZ ebay. diesel crank http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-LD-28-Diesel-Crank-Stroker-240Z_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem2555ba1335QQitemZ160352047925QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories the rare fuel cap I'm chasing (back off its mine) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1970-TO-71-DATSUN-240Z-GAS-CAP-WITH-BASE-RARE_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem35a29197feQQitemZ230360717310QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

  22. So your behind the seat sections looked like mine originally?
  23. Regarding the smoke the L28's been blowing recently, I bought a compression tester today and each pot is pretty much at 120psi. I know this isn't bad but what would you expect from a low km engine........140psi?? I'll drain the fuel tank and start again with some cleaner fuel. My carpet kit arrived today. Fairly happy with the quality and fit of most bits. The piece under the seat doesn't even remotely suit unless I've got something round the wrong way which is why I'm including some photos. I've also got some photos of two longer sections which I can't really find a place for. They seem to have cut outs for the seat rails i think, but I thought that section was for vinyl. boot
  24. I seriously wouldn't care if I lost 10hp with those headers. They look sweet and add at least 50hp without the engine running. A set of tripples and I'm right.
  25. I contacted Rare Spare but they said it would be two months before they got any more floor pans in. Then today I got in touch with All Z Parts and he had some so they are on their way. I have picked up some rectangle steel section too for the chasis rails. I wanted to make them out of stronger guage material. How do you seperate the seat rails from the floor and tunnel without disfiguring it too much? I also ordered a carpet kit from Tru-fit. Not real sure on their reputation as there isn't too much info on here regarding good or bad mobs, plus I think these guys are fairly new. I pulled the rocker cover off the other day as the L28 started blowing a bit of smoke and it wasn't black :-\ When you rev it nothing comes out of the rocker breather hole just exhaust? I'm hoping it is just the fuel I put in it which I had drained out of the two 280's I had, into old oil 5L bottles and it's has gone a bit two-strokey. Anyway at least I have been able to tune the Su's on it with a uni-sync borrowed from a mate. Still not real sure whether anything was happening when I screwed in or out the mixture nut underneath. There are a couple of good youtube vids for tuning SU's, not on Z's though. Been doing some stripping back of areas and finding some good solid steel but also some rusty sections. It will eventually need a respray but I might find myself stripping it back to bare metal sooner than I thought. I've also had adequate time to clean out my shed so the Zed can live in there, apparently my wife had been counting the days it had been sitting on our patio. I've been playing with the throttle linkage too and found a cable plate that fits over the linkage shaft making the engine side of a cable conversion complete, now the foot pedal....... Put the 280zx's mags on as well because the rubber they had was an extra 30mm a side so it looks a lot phatter than the jelly beans.
