    Hi Jeff, I thought you did, but it just didn't look right when you trial fitted the points dizzy. So yeah you may just be one tooth out, it doesn't take much. It definitely sounds like a timing issue when the engine is running. Good luck with it, I'm sure you will sort it out soon Cheers Jeff

    Hi Jeff, When you fit your points distributor the rotor is not pointing at the correct number 1 position, it looks to be pointing at the actual number 4 position. I know you have your leads fitted accordingly but I suspect you fill be chasing your tail until you set the distributor drive up correctly. You will need to drop the oil pump and drop the distributor drive shaft down and reposition it to the correct position. See the attached pic from my Haynes manual. I hope this helps. Cheers Jeff

    Nice Dave, little things but as usual great attention to detail. I look forward to these sort of days in the future. It must feel good to fix some of those niggling little things that you just don't quite get to during the frenzy to get the car back on the road.

    I'm hoping that the suspension will settle once I have driven it so it doesn't continue to look like a 4WD. It has brand new Lovells "low" springs fitted so it should sit considerably lower than it does in the pics. Well here's hoping anyway.

    Weekend progress update. It feels like slow going but this stuff just takes time. Don't mind the hours spent trying to find some of the parts for the drivers door and I still haven't found them, they have to be in the shed somewhere but god only knows where. So passenger side door is back together and fitted, I still have a bit of work to do on panel alignment but not fitting too bad. Drivers quarter window back in with new inner and outer seals. Fuel filler panel fitted and a few other bits and pieces.

    Hatch is fitted!!!! The vents are just sitting there at the moment, I'm planning to paint them matt black for the time being and look to get a set of new ones in the near future. I hope to get the doors built up and fitted over the weekend and then get back to work on the dashboard, stayed tuned.

    Thanks, I'm really enjoying the reassembly part of the build, it's very rewarding. I sometimes catch myself just staring and admiring her beauty instead of getting on with the task at hand.

    Sounds a bit different to the only one I have been too. We took Vorn's 920 gold car to the inaugural Barossa C & C late Jan. It was a good turn out, 120+ cars, Lot's of Holden and Ford, some American muscle, 90's JDM and a splattering of everything else. We found there was a lot of interest in the 240Z once the crowd thinned out a bit - I don't think they could see it parked between a VB commodore and an XB Falcon - it's just so small.

    Yeah, my dash was pretty bad. Still confident that it will look good with a bit of time and effort. How was your Cars and Coffee today? I'm on a mission George, I want it driving by the beginning of May and I have a definite appointment with Cars and Coffee Barossa on 26 May 19, so no time to Dilly Dally. I would come pick you up but I would need a week of work for that round trip, maybe some go-pro footage will have to do.

    I thought it was time for an update. I have been doing lot's of little bits an pieces that didn't really feel worthy of an update and then all of a sudden it feels like a fair bit has happened so without further delay I will let the pics do the talking. Sorry told a lie, I should explain what happened with my dashboard. So I went and saw the place that was doing the restoration of my dashboard and once they had a really good look at it they decided it was beyond economic repair, i.e. it would cost too much to repair (possibly as many as 50 man hours of labor). So I have started doing a DIY repair and I will update later with the finished results. The best part is that I save a heap of cash and at least now I am in control of how long it will take to repair. Cheers Jeff

    Nice Jeff, really enjoying watching your car come together. We appear to be doing the reassembly process on our respective cars in a completely opposite way. Just goes to show there is more than 2 ways to skin a cat.

    Yeah I know Mossy. Vorn had his done by the same guys and his was about $1200 approx 4-5 years ago. It seems like a lot of inflation. They have had them for 3 1/2 months now and as far as I know they haven't started on them yet. I might go and see them next week and maybe grab them and take them somewhere else or even do a DIY job on them. Cheers Jeff

    WOW Gav! that is a lot of money, but it is obviously your passion. My dash and centre console are being done at the moment and I should have been sitting down when the gentleman doing it said it would be close to 2K. I figured that it's a big visual part of the car so I wanted it done right but I can't bring myself to spend money on all the little bits and pieces when I can make look clean and tidy for a fraction of the cost. I can appreciate that some people can and I applaud them. I want my car driving this year which will be 8 years total since I started. It won't happen if I keep spending, as I'm already running out of money to throw at it very fast.

    Thank you all for the kind words. I'm pretty happy with the progress. This is a budget conscience build and as such most parts are cleaned and restored in house in a cost effective way. I'm not a concourse type of guy but like to keep things original or original like if possible but with the latitude to make things how I like or dare I say, sometimes even improve on the original design. I had a kind word to my painter again this morning and hopefully I will have my panels back in the next week or so. Watch this space!!!! Cheers Jeff

    Great to see your back at it George. Breaks and delays are essential and unavoidable when you have a young family. It looks like you have found a great balance between Family and hobby. Now if you can just manage the OCD, you may get the car finished in the next 10 years. I feel better that your OCD is way worse than mine. Keep up the good work.     Some Progress from the weekend. I have been doing some detailing of parts in the engine bay. The radiator has been painted, the grill painted. The clutch has now been bled and adjusted. The distributor drive has been setup correctly now and engine timing set and carbs tuned by ear. I'm pretty happy now with how the engine bay looks and the way the car runs. The starter motor still needs detailing. Now if my painter could just get all the hanging panels back to me and my weatherstrip kit would arrive then we could move on to making her look like a complete car. Patience is a virtue!!!!
