  1. This can also be caused by a leaking head gasket, water in the cylinders can be real hard to compress.
  2. Just wondering about the above question . . . i registered over 2 weeks ago and my account has still not been activated. There's a fella on there doing an SR20 conversion in Creswick and i wanted to see if i could take a look. Creswick is about 15 Kays from where i live.
  3. What size speakers are you using alan?
  4. Use transmission fluid. They require a light oil, even sewing machine oil will do. I didn't buy new seals because the one's in there were in near perfect condition.
  5. A picture of what you're building may help. Are they on the side or at the back? A speaker in a box will help with bass reflex over the free air type. There's a certain amount of space required behind speakers depending on their size.
  6. I won't be bringing my Zed.
  7. If you look at other images of 240Z carbs you'll see that your fuel bowls are different. Maybe the carbs are too.
  8. What about a cold air intake?
  9. The bearings are the same, the hubs are slightly thinner and the same bolt pattern (i'll take a measurement and report back). Spring rates for the coilovers are 5Kg front 6Kg rear. I'm just finishing up the little jobs now.
  10. My goodness that is hilarious. Even one simon is getting near too much
  11. Simon i'm pretty sure the whole lot is just stock 280ZX with no work done to the motor. Dale and i spoke to the previous owner ii depth about the engine.
  12. Another member i spoke to recently had similar worries as to making the right decisions. I find it easiest to break the project into groups and then make a list of "to do" jobs. Every strike through a job on the list is one less to do and then you'll make another list, then another until you're left with a "roadworthy list". It's just really hard to obtain the inspiration in the guts of a repair/ rebuild. That's the part that sorts out the dreamers from the achievers. It's all the areas you don't see on a restoration, the ones that count, that can leave you with a with what appears to be an endless road. the rust may appear again even if you've done all your homework but when you get to that point you'll have the mental stamina required to do what needs to be done. That is the single largest skill i have learnt from restoring. The payoff is massive. 90% prep 10% finishing.
  13. Them good shells are hard to find. You're project is right in the middle of it's darkest hour and this is where most (9 out of 10) projects fail. I've seen some have rallied the troops to help them to the next crucial point (rolling shell i'd say). About how many hours would you predict to get your shell up to speed?
  14. Yes i will do that, i rebuilt the wetlegs in the front and it does feel stiff.
  15. Looking good there. Check out this build thread and you can see the 240Z coilover kit i purchased from canada. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,10109.0.html Here's the link for them. I'll be testing them in 2 weeks so i'll keep you informed. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Racing-Coil-over-Coilover-DATSUN-260Z-280Z-74-78-Adjustable-Lowering-Spring-1-/390366993427?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5ae3af9c13 Just check to make sure your strut diameter is the correct one if you do order them, $460 Canadian delivered.
  16. Ok this might help you, it might not.
  17. Oh bugger, my bad. I'll do it this evening. But yes mount towards front as they will foul the strut tower at 12 o'clock.
  18. I heard this engine running in Ballarat. It's a P90 F54 combination with electronic ignition. Started up and idled real nice. HAd the round top carbies too.
  19. Most everything is done now except for fuel pump, engine wiring (which i'm sending away to an expert), fan and exhaust. Just waiting on parts now which will take two weeks.
  20. I've been running the R31 setup for some time and my calipers did seize up on the test fit. Then i took them apart, cleaned and greased them (yes you use grease on the internals) and fitted a new kits. never had a problem since and the handbrake never worked that good with drums.
  21. Could be one of these. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/DELLORTO-40-45-48-DHLA-CARBY-THROTTLE-LINKAGE-WHEEL-/270531749199?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3efcf2e54f
  22. Actually i have renamed a lot of my jpeg's . . . been doing it for two years now. Buggered if i know why, looks better tcf78vbdry8xghzed. jpeg
  23. I'ts not worth 8 but rust is something most of us Zed owners have to deal with. Hard to find a good shell.
  24. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Datsun-240z-Ferrari-GTO-250-replica-/130603821025?pt=AU_Cars&hash=item1e689827e1
