I think the only bit that differs is that they added the extra foot between the door and the rear wheels to accommodate the rear seat. I'm not sure there is less overhang on the 2+2, but I could be wrong Oh, and welcome to the forum, good luck on the hunt.

Couldn't be that cold Bruce, we had the heater on Hey guys, wondering if someone could do me a favour? I'm looking for a photo of the early type lower radiator support panel. When I say 'early type', I mean, a '74 260z or I think a 240z might have the same panel? Like this one: [table][tr][td][/td][td][/td][/tr][/table] I'm asking because, as you can see from the photos, my shell has no tags for the wiring loom and I'm trying to figure out which holes to weld them into (my parts car is a '76 and has the later support panel). I've looked in heaps of project threads, but have only been able to find one decent pic. If someone has one in their thread that I've missed, or has a photo of one, I'd appreciate it very much Got frustrated with my welding skills (or rather, lack of ) tonight while trying to weld a spot weld to put a loom tag in. But I think I've discovered my problem and will give it another crack tomorrow night. However, decided to block sand my drivers side guard back. We had originally thought the shell's factory colour was dark green, however, once I block sanded the primer off the panel, I found green paint on top of the red of the rest of the shell.. Don't think it's the same as the factory green, looks blue in some light and green in others . However, it did show up a few low spots, even after what seems like about 20 layers of paint. Wonder what other colours will show up as I take it further back?

Yup, I was only interested because I have a suck through carb turbo setup on my engine and am interested to try and find other such setups, which may be of more modern design, to learn from. I'm reading 'Corky Bell - Maximum boost' at the moment (which has a nice shot of a turbo-charged triple carb'd engine from a Z, but the engine doesn't really look like an L series), so I'm learning (slowly), but never hurts to see newer setups

I'm assuming it's a fuel injection setup and not a carb system?

Oh, Dale and I did a quick mod to Scoota's Z today as well, while he was down the back of the shed. Unfortunately I don't have a pic of it at the moment, but I think (and am sure that Dale agrees) that black fluffy dice look quite good in a green 260z

hahaha, geez, haven't seen the channels looking like that in a long time! Wow, massive day today. Don't have a huge amount of photos from the actual 'doing' part of the day, but essentially it was a similar session as last weekend, but we actually planned this one!! I have a few photos etc on my other camera, but I left the cord to connect to the PC at work (yes, I'm a dipstick! ) Dale and Scoota came over to fix the other half of the front end, so we got stuck into it early despite the chilly conditions (one more hooray for heaters in the garage). After a chin wag and checking out some goodies that Scoota had, Dale set to work like a man on a mission, with his goal of taking the sound deadening off the floor. The sound deadening wasn't factory and appears to be more of an underbody sealant, as it was still quite sticky and a PITA to chip off. Scoota attacked the front end, which looked like this: Essentially the same process as last weekend, grind the old part off and use as a template to cut the required section from the parts car. Unfortunately the section that was removed from the parts car wasn't in as good nick as the one we removed last weekend, so we had to cut a section of rust out and weld a new patch in (that's IN, not over the top of ). I think that was the only issue we encountered today (apart from a power outage, which just happened to nicely coincide with lunch being ready ). Scoota also welded the bonnet catch back on the firewall. I think all we need to do is to tidy up a few of the welds with a bit of grinding. haha, yeah, I'll take her shopping... For Z parts I'm not even living with her, so she hasn't got a say on expenditure for the Z. She's not that interested in 'cars that don't work'. lol. Hey mate, check out your local engineering supplier, they should stock a range of engine stands that will do the job and be a lot less than the ebay one. I think I paid $80 or so for my stand.

Well, gee, I think it cost me whatever beer they drank while they were here... and a six pack I threw to Scoot on his way out Not sure how much Scoota charges, he just got excited yesterday when we were talking about cutting and welding, haha Yeah, Scoota can paint, he's sprayed his car, check out his project thread for the results, he's also going to be spraying Dale's orange car. Oh, finally got the missus to sit in the Z... She doesn't look that excited does she?

Scoota, you forgot the 'before' pic... Doesn't look like you did anything to that section I'd be interested in just about anything, these days are worth their weight in gold. Really interested in any panelwork sessions, but also in Simon's engine rebuild day. Suppose it depends on where people are in their projects, the last session was great for those beginning their project, maybe aim for something for those who have already 'sorted' out their shells? Maybe start a poll on where people are in their project and then work from there? Cheers.

So those crazy guys named Scoota and Dale dropped around today to see what had been done to the shell and to discuss what I could do about it. After we reached a conclusion of what I needed to do, Scoota, of course, gets that strange glint in his eye and asks "what power tools do you have??". So we started work on the side which I hadn't chopped the random bits of metal out of. So 'zap zap' and it looked like this. I sh!t you not when I say that random bit of metal hanging down is about 5mm thick! So Scoot knuckled down and started taking the grinder to the front end and we ended up with this segment cut out. [table] [tr][td] [/td] [td][/td][/tr][/table] With that chopped out, Scoot used it as a template and obtained the relevant segment from my parts car and did a bit of panel beating to get it straight before unleashed the fury with my new welder and set it up properly for me [table][tr] [td][/td] [td][/td] [td][/td] [td][/td][/tr][/table] The end result looks a million bucks, no random holes and pieces of metal riveted etc. onto the chassis. We also plugged up a few random holes that had shown up and test fitted the guard to make sure everything was nice and straight. A while ago, Gav was looking for photos and a brief description of why people found ausZcar useful, I think this photo of Scoot with the caption 'because I have found other people's Z's to chop up' would fit the bill? Thanks to the boys for their work today, I think after today's tutorial, I'll have the confidence to have a go at any other segments I need to.

When I've been to your house, I've seen the way he looks at Orange (that twinkle gets in his eye), I'm still surprised it hasn't ended up with a certain V8 in it Maybe that's going to 'accidentally' fall in one day before it's finished? hee hee. Scoot, which spec cam are you going to run with the new head? The same one that's currently on the car? Last time I talked to you, you had another one which was a bit lumpy for your current setup, but you still had it still sitting around.

I'll be there as long as work doesn't want me to be on standby that weekend, will only get that information in a couple of months.

Good to see you're keeping the Z Kyle, it's looking better and better with each update, would have been a shame to sell it at this stage. Fingers crossed that it's finished in time for the christmas meet.
