afraid you were going to say that ! I'm going off to the place that has the car in the next 30 mins or so , so i'll be able to get a better idea . gonna tell him your advice. Strange way of doing it Mr Dellorto !
-
To the guru's or at least someone who is willing to take apart there DHLA40 dellorto carb and post some pics ! I got the dellortos on and sent the whole kit and caboodle off to a tuner ( I am lazy, as well as i had at the time , no idea about emulsion tubes and stuff like that). He has put in the right type of jets and MAIN idle air corrector's but ... the idle air correction circuit is a pressed in jet ( apparently ) and it is way too large ... So other than sticking a bit of fuse wire down the hole idea which I have done before on another carb but dont like doing, Is there anything else i can try ? At the moment the idle is perfect and wide open throttle is perfect but the all important 80-90 % of driving rpm range of 2000 rpm up to 5000 rpm is a dog cos the idle correction circuit is letting in too much air. I have diagrams of DHLA's coming out of my proverbials and also how they work etc etc . I cant see the idle air correction circuit ( i can see the main circuit ) let alone any proof on if they are pressed in or not. Any help here would be great. I have contacted some alfa guys as well. They say to just unscrew the idle air correction jet and put a smaller one in . Not very helpful as the thing is pressed in ! BTW anyone who is selling an EFI setup might get a call from me if i cant get these blasted things to work properly!

gav : I dont know about that.I am in a similar position for a company i do occasional freelance for. I know where you are coming from but ... In no way did you pillory the car . All you did was present your opinion. Which i happen to agree with BTW. I dont think you need to moderate your opinion just because you are a moderator. That isnt really fair. Also a potential buyer might surf the forums looking for help to buy a 240/260/280. Perhaps this person is asking whether 25k is fair or not. It would be good to read opinions of current owners of the car type he/she was buying especially regarding this car. Funny thing was that you guys debated my car when it was on ebay. Lurker ( back then ) that I was I took what you said on board and snapped up an absolute bargain even by mid 2007 standards. Think of yourself as doing a service to the z community which of course you are !

i think what v8datto is saying is the torque compared to a v8. I know there are some guys on hybridz ( i want big phils engine ) getting some serious torque but they have also spent serious money . So i think it is making big torque figures in an L6 is costlier and more work, than a lazy (even stock ) 350 chev. That said a fully sorted ITB efi turbo l6 would be a ball tearer would be NIIIIIIIICE !

FuFu'Z 240Z Project! 56K warning... too slow.
modular9 replied to fufu's topic in Members Project(s) Journal
3 weeks aint too bad. My zed is still at the tuning shop ( 5 km down the road ) after 2.5 weeks! They do good work but are dam slow. And yes i ring everyday. Still : pics of the spoliers please. -
problem with tweakit is that they have ITB setups as well .So you go there to buy something and you end up buying ITB setups instead !

I'd debadge the addon badges. ( i hate badges on cars ! ? ) Then attempt the porsche rs carrera look from the 70's. Here is a 5 min photochop job showing what i mean.
-
They look a little like them boyds wheels everyone is putting on mustangs and camaro's . Other than the deep dish look which is a better look IMHO on older cars they have the right look to them . 250 a pop isnt too bad unless that isnt AUD money and you got to get 'em shipped.

lovely looking car hellfire. The louvres really suit the car. Most of the time louvres look odd but on this baby it looks really good. Darken up the interior too i would think. 3 thumbs up !

Lurch : I have searched and i have looked in the galleries as well to find out EXACTLY what tyre/rim package you are using in these pics. I went to your ozdat site but they looked like american racers jellybeans and the ones in the pics here are damn fine. I have a red bus. I need to know what you are running! Also looks like it is lowered ( and probably got rose jointed billet cnc machined this and that ) a tad as well. I will be forever in your debt as will my wallet!

Good start. The youtube, the pics of the first glow of zed ownership! Whats the plan other than stripping it down of course ?
-
zedman : thanks for the info on that. Perhaps it isnt too hard. The problem for me is the prices of porsche 912's in america right now are around the same sort of moolah so hard decisions... But thanks for the info all the same. Guyver280z : I have to ask. Why RHD ?
-
thanks for the headsup . My dad is looking at a car in Adelaide and was looking at some transport companies to get it back up to here in Brisbane.
-
hmm might have to get one and just tool around in lhd mode then ! But doable but i think the switch over is probably going to eat into the savings that were made by getting it overseas. Why are things so hard ?
-
OK so how easy is it to switch a lhd zed to rhd. Is it like the mg where from the factory they made both LHD and RHD mountings or is it a little more involved ? I get the rack switching but is there some fine grindin'/weldin' to be done for things like clutch slave cylinders etc? Reason i ask is that the prices for Aussie 240z's are a tad out of my range but a lhd american zed with shipping works out cheaper. I might still get into a 2 seater zed yet ! In fact there was a real nice one black hybridz style that went for around 9000 plus shipping to aus should get it under 14,000 AUD! Gotta love globalisation!

top pic is awesome mate. You got the god rays and the determined worker and everything. Nice composition ... yeh i gotta say i really like it.
-
rocking. Better clean my windows then !
-
so if there are any stickers can we go for auszcar.com ones as well ? I,d be down for some of that a bit like the guys on jdmstyletuning.com ?

1up for the drive before ripping it all apart. Try to get all the parts at the same time so it is literally a pull out and put in affair. Nothing worse than putting in an engine then having to wait a few weeks/months for the next part. That is where the " bah get rid of this thing " comes in. a List of things to do. It is amazing what you can forget. My brother forgot to prime his oil pump ( holden 202 ) and scored the bores when he tried to start it.
-
Nice going ... what other things are on the agenda for the change over ? And i think it is great that you are going national as some of the state based sites are... well nuff said.
-
Before this topic goes off topic a little more : Track wise you guys are completely right. I know that a porsche putting out 180 bhp aint gonna cut it with a sorted ( suspension wise , tuning etc ) zed. But I am a classic car nut. Every classic car nut has to own certain cars in their lives : '69 mustang fastback, aston martin db4 ( yeh good luck on that ) and of course a porsche. I also add the zed ( though mine is a 2+2 ) to that list. Prolly R32 skyline as well. I could go on. With 17995 as the cutoff , I still got about 11 000 to go!
-
interesting thread. I think it has some bearing on what you started off with. My z is in perfect condition body/paint/interior wise. Engine is so so and it needs lowering so i would be saying that my spend would be less than someone who glommed onto a low km/h rusty z. I really cant see me personally spending any more than $17 990 . This is because there is a motor dealer down the road that has a black 1981 porsche 911 SC 3.0 litre LHD on for that amount. And well do i need to say any more ?
-
state and city is allright but it would be an awfully easy way for a thieving scumbag to find out where all the cool 240z's and 260z's were if you were to add suburb. Surely something like QLD,Brisbane would be enough? bad enough we all have to obfuscate our number plates!
-
if you hop online and see a 432 r ripping it up against maseratis then that is me !But i have Been spending too much time in the paint editor to race.
-
you know the problem with forza2 ( modularnine on xboxlive BTW ... We should organise a viczcar racing team on forza2 ) ? Is they give you the 432 far too early in your career. I also blame forza for making me buy some triples for the car and look at raspy exhausts.
