What you would like your Z to look like?
modular9 replied to Toecutter's topic in General Discussions
Hey Van : You got that one a wee bit bigger by any chance ? -
say a 61 point car wash is a whole day. And it is one if the 5000 pound jobs. Wicked money if you can get it. Rubbing your hands over a sexy - svelte body and it is ok with the wife! and he gets paid to do it. HAs this man got the best job in the world ?

I know all about hosting costs. One of the companies i help run is on 129.95 USD per month ( we have a terabyte of traffic a month so we needed a us company) I know gav240z and Toecutter arent making money off this if their hosting costs are anywhere close to ours. If the addition of advertising helps hosting even for one month then do it. I would prefer to have banner ads all over the place than not have a helpful forum such as this around. I'd also be down to buy a carton (or a gasket /conrod bolt/SU linkage/ or whatever) for the blokes who are spending time and money on this forum so put a paypal thing somewhere when you get some time. Gav240z : I most certainly didnt pick this as a joomla based site. Are you gonna switch to 1.5 or is the site already on it ?

Gav240z : I blame you for everything. I am now bidding on a rb26 halfcut and spent most of the weekend with a tape measure and the bonnet open. So keep 'em coming if you can find 'em. I loved the zg article. Cant think of anything else maybe a tutorial type of article sort of like a "It's nearly summer and what should you be looking at doing on your zed ". I know it isnt a featured car so maybe i am snapping off on a tangent here. I'd like to hear more war stories of zed restoration as well. Nigels one was cool. Or a tutorial on setting up the car for optimal handling on road and track? I got some other ideas but they are probably even more unworkable than that. I too hope you get the advertising up as i showed at least 5 people the mark rolston story. Dont know much about adwords but if it is on impressions then you would have got at least 7.5 cents just there!

Toecutter : brilliant photos. Got any more ? I agree that is the zed for me. Well maybe a lowering job . I have noticed that zeds sit rather high. Nice find. -
i'll modify my advice now then . I dont know anything about the armed forces but do you get enough time to play with cars ? I remember my 16 -21 Years as the best years of my life so far and the cars were a big part of it. I think if the armed forces ( navy in your case ) take up a lot of time i would be a little reticent in getting a high maintenance ( I check fluids / suspension / grease nipples / brakes / distributor&plugs every weekend - a little anal but it is good practice i think ) needs to be driven, classic. If you dont have the time or money then maybe a less exciting/but more modern car is needed. Haha who would have thought a bloke like me who has never owned a car younger than 1978 counselling a modern car.
-
i'd have to lose the wing. but other than that i think it looks ok. from the side you have the "clean 240z look with no bumpers " and then get a 3/4 shot and you are even more intrigued.

OK playing the devils advocate ( picture this little red fella with horns perched on your shoulder that is me ) . there are some rather sweet 240z 2 seaters on ebay right now. The goldy silvery one is on a second relist on ebay for around 12 K ? My first car was a v8 powered torana. You are only young once. Everyone makes mistakes ( like swapping the torana for a 1275 powered mini ) but i dont think getting into a 240z 2 seater now is a mistake at all. according to the australian classic car mag i get they have gone up quite a bit in a relatively short time. I would say a crash course in SU tuning is a must and get the blue haynes manual for it as well. Sorry to the rest of the forum councilling restraint but i remember myself going into work with a v8 torana when everyone else had hyundai's which cost 4 times as much and definiitley werent 4 times the fun.

Gav240z - thanks for the link. wasted/researched the site for about an hour.

I'd add a full engine area as well. Probably with a few pointers on flat top carbs vs SU's vs hitachi/mikuni/webers/solex/delorto/holley carbs and what they should look like. I know from example that tracking down parts for the carburettion area on a zed is a wee hard little nugget. What about a price point with an example ? or is that going to get too much arguements ?

XRQTR: looks mighty fine. funny how a lot of zeds are turning up in sheds somewhere. Envious of your triple setup The enkis look a little like roh chicanes i think anyway. ROH chicanes were the wheel I was thinking about. myself.

You victorians have the most awesomest roads i have ever seen. Pictures videos and shenanigans for the boys interstate.

Great thread idea. Prepare for a long story about a boy and his unnatural love of a zed called Christine ( no pics as this is a family forum ) I had a black Falcon v8 coupe ( just like mad max's without the blower/gas tanks and side exhausts - lot of japanese tourists have a pic of my old car in their photo albums !! ) that ran like a train. It was, body wise, seeing the end of days after 9 years of daily driver ownership. I had to make the hard decision so I hopped onto ebay . I put in classic car and a sweet 260z came up alongside the mg's etc. It rekindled my love affair with zeds looking at the pics on ebay . I bid a ridiculously low bid on it ( about half of what they seem to go for ) just for laughs. Well I won!! The 260z was 780 km away ( yes i bought it sight unseen ) so i got on a plane and turned up at Maitland outside Newcastle . There she was. Low long lean and red. She saw me... I saw her. Emotions were high. I ( ***censored for young readers*** ) . I drove it without a problem 780 km back to QLD. This was 3 days before the June floods in Maitland. I tried to call the old bloke i bought it off to see how he fared. I dont think it was good as he was very close to the river.I didnt manage to get through. The only good thing was when i reregistered the 260z the remaining 200 odd dollars on the nsw rego went back to the previous owner. I feel I was lucky to get the zed and hence her name ( stephen king fans will know what i mean. ) Sold the black coupe ( her name was Daisy ) for a profit on ebay and have started to plow the profit back into the zed. My name is Mike and I am a new zed-aholic.

zedevan : ahh but this is qld we have always had draconian laws when it comes to width of tyres etc . I had a xb falcon coupe which in the southern states people regularly put 10" with 295 width tyres on the rear end. Oh not in queensland i had 265 on 9 inch elstar mags and was told to go down to 8 inch and max width of 245. Each state is different i think. Case in point was the hassle i had with my bumperless 260z back end. NSW RTA had no problem with it being bumperless but here in QLD i had to fight tooth and nail. I won! Hopping off to ozzytyres to talk konig rewinds ( hiopefully 15 x 7 ) 225 rears and 205 ala Toecutters example this weekend.
-
but it is a zed :'( no I understand i have a friend who had to part with his MGB due to a welcome addition to the family. Just make sure to make the pledge that you WILL have another one!
-
Thank you pzg302 ! To hear it from a zed owner is the best to hear. Tyre placard says 195x70x14 so that means 253 width max but i think i will follow toecutter's example. And Mr toecutter... that pic was the pic that sold me on superlites or konig's ( wats are a little too expensive ) Thanks for the width information. I think i like the 15's more than the 16's now the rubber looks more meatier. Time for some photoshop action !
-
Gidday , I have a '77 2+2 260z and sorry i cant help you with the decision on selling the whole lot off as one lot or in bits. However if you make the decision to sell off the parts i would be VERY interested in your braking system ( both front and rear. ). I funnily enough spent some time in fulcrum yesterday talking sway bars and lowered springs and koni adjustable shocks and big brakes. On a side note surely a baby car pod would fit in the back? I mean this is a zed you are talking about here.

More news on the new AE86 spiritual successor.

looks a little like the celica scrunched up from behind with a toyota paseo front end. Bit of a mish mash. reserve judgement till i see it in the flesh though. Thanks for the link . I saw a shortwheelbase 350z story on there. -
Ok surely hanging 10 inch wheels and tires out on that sort of rear end would facilitate a strengthened differential not to mention the suspension. All done without tubs? Does look mighty fine however. Mr toecutter has it right. 16's look just right. I will be going 16's, gee I am an easy sell ! I found out for sure that the beaurepaires guy was talking through a hole in his proverbial. 16 x 7's with 205 series i think. with maybe 215 on the back for that old school look. Problem : just found the queensland distributor for konig rewinds !
-
Sco-aus : interestingly enough the link to the simmons wheels that you posted were on of the cars at the racq motorfest up here. Now he has 15 x7 with 215 and 225 on them. So i think i need to find someone other than beaurepairs to do this. And i am now positive that you are right about diameters as well. In this blokes defence he looked like kerry packers son but without the money so he probably doesnt have a lot of luck in life -- bloke just p$#$ed me off with some real inane stuff. So to bring this thread back on topic : superlites and 16 inchers are my guess.
-
Toecutter : not allowed them in Qld apparently. Beaurepairs ( I was just passing them so i popped in ) said i wasnt allowed more than 15x7 and 195 x65x15 tyres by law. Now I downloaded the latest modifcation rules from QLD transport and it said as long as the overall diameter including tyres was the same it didnt matter ( my brother just got a rwc with 19 inch blingy doof doof wheels with 35 series tyres on a vl turbo ). but the bloke at beaurepairs wasnt having it. So I spose 16's would be nice if i could find a dealer that would fit them . The bloke at beaurepairs even told me to take my vin number and ring nissan to find out EXACTLY what my car(Exactly) was first registered with and he would put them on for me. Anyway quote of 295 $ a wheel at 15x7 superlites (charcoal interiors )from performancewheels though. 6 week waiting list. must be popular
