  1. Sulio : I am up in QLD but that is ok i'll have a look on ebay for a book on the triples. Hmm so it's hard to tune a set of triples? You have a l28 with a 240 head dont you ? I have been thinking that finding a cheapy l28 and rebuild with the triples on it then drop in replacing the l26 is a more intelligent use but i want the triples! JP240z : Selling the rb30 engine I was going to put in , so i might use the funds from that to pay someone to do it. I know it is a cop out but SU's and Holleys are relatively easy but triples sound hard. I'll have a look see. Did you sacrifice a few goats and wear a pink rubber glove on your left foot while you were tuning them ? I heard that this is normal tuning behaviour Mike
  2. Sold the rb30 to have some fun with triples/exhausts and L28's ( still to find ). It is all Sulio's fault. I have got my hands on a full-ready-to-go triple dhla 40 dellortos with manifold ,linkage yadda yadda. ( yep there will be piccys and so forth ) Good deal that has left me a little money to upgrade things. I have a few questions I hope some of you more knowledgeable types can help me out with. I am replacing my fuel pump anyway ( noisiest bugger i have ever heard!) but with the arrival of the triple dello's i am thinking i need to rethink the fuel system. Are they like webers and need a constant fuel pressure? If so can someone help me out with what that figure might be. I have been thinking about a holley red ( blue being too ridiculous for a n/a car ). Going to be replacing the fuel hosing with higher spec hosing as well. Ram tubes and oiled foam elements as well? Have I missed anything ? Sulio : any tricks in getting your setup running? I am also about to book the car to have some headers put on with exhaust system ( full ) I am thinking 2 1/4 inch system with some free flowing mufflers as well. Or do i need to go bigger ? I am a firm believer in getting the breathing right as well. I dont necessarily want to make a statement, i am after performance
  3. I used to drive a black xb falcon coupe with a rumbling v8 under the bonnet. My average police stops per year were 8 - 10 for license checks , random breath checks and of course safety checks. The last time they stopped me i was pulling into my drive after tailing me for 4 kms for a breath test. Doesnt happen now in the zed though. You'd think I'd be on this petition like flies on %^&% . No I am not. If the annoyance of me having to be stopped 8 or so times a year stops irresponsible hoons as well ( which it should ) then I am all for it. If you havent done anything wrong and you havent got anything illegal on the car then in most cases the cops are pretty damn good about the whole thing. Most of the times i ended up having discussions about flow figures on heads, extractor options etc. Show them respect they show you respect. If you drive a modded car or a non-conformist car then it is par of the course. I am sorry for the common-door community for what they feel is unwarranted police scrutiny but as it has been said in this thread... they are the most likely community to have the fully sick illegal BOV, cut springs,no bump stops, 29 inch wheels with crap rubber on them. No I aint a cop either !
  4. gullwing doors FTW. The shape would look awesome sort of like an old school transformer sort of thing. But from the sound of my doors closing i think the doors are damn heavy which would mean some serious strengthening. Never really liked suicide doors. Look odd plus if they arent done properly you get some odd drafts while driving. ( had a drive of a riced out doof doof crx with suicide doors and well i am glad i got a zed ! )
  5. possibly setup for more torque ? Would need a little more torque to punt a patrol around would have thought.. I might keep an eye out for a patrol L6 .
  6. Pauly : Ok so why you would need the computer ? ASsuming that you can do everything else could you modify the intakes to use a l6 style intake. Then you could use triple webers or a custom ITB solution. If I had the money then it is something i would think about for sure. I thought that rb25 heads were wider than an L6 block?
  7. I am thinking it might be a jaguar head but the commenters think it is a yamaha SOHc. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5815350492893860613&pr=goog-sl Shame that the exhaust side isnt shown properly
  8. blow by blow account please. Dont make me wait for a today tonight special on a "car tuner in victoria goes on a murderous rampage after his carbs dont tune correctly and we have exclusive pictures ".
  9. nzder : bloody beautiful mate. adding these wheels to my wheel options . loooks very fine.
  10. thanks david for the very informative ( and money saving in my case ) post. I have a N/A 2.4 block with a e88 head on it so's i would be up for a turbo cam , new pistons and or crank. I was going to buy something very similar and just bolt on.
  11. thanks mate interested in where it is plumbed in. I think it needs to be just rammed into the sump but not sure.
  12. Fuzzy : Interesting pic datto3 is. That is sort of the setup i am/was/gonna get for my 2+2 77 zed. While i save up for the eventual rb swap ( err sco_aus you didnt tell me that it was gonna run to about double than what i bought the car for ). What does it sound like if you have run it and where was the turbo oil plumbed into ? Luvemfast has one on ebay and it is between that and a triple weber setup in USA. Oh and there'll be another re build thread starting soon as I get my turbo/webers/rb/busty wench/lowered springs/konig rewinds and a better solution to the sub that i am putting in there. Problem is that i really got the bargain of the century with my zed and I dont need to do things like cutting out rust and so forth.
  13. gav240z has the rights of it. Australia wide is the way to go. I bought my little lady interstate. The drive back was a bonding session between man and car. In fact there were some truckies who thought me a tad weird at some stops on the drive back. Painting it black has another major problem. Your bodywork has to be exceptionally straight. That means no bad bogging no small pop dents which you could overlook in a light car. The silver you have there is class but it does seem to be a little too expensive. Two last things. 1. I am a relatively new owner of a zed you must be absolutley sure that you want a 2+2 over a coupe. I did have a 6 minute 34 seconds " dammit i wish i had a coupe " period but without a rear bumper the 2+2 looks rather ferarri - ish so I am super happy. 2. The auto sucks in a datsun. The blasted thing shifts before it reaches that sweet spot in the rev range. Get a manual as soon as you possible can. Or beef up the auto and manualise it. Reverendzed is going through the whole conversion to manual so he is the bloke to ask there. Oh an post here!
  14. gotta say that the convertable was weird. The idea is sound but i would have done something with the window channels to make it a true convertable. And the dash... welll the less said about that the better. The zed dash so far has been the best dash and setup i have ever driven why would you change it ? But there were some very sweet zeds there that is for sure. Mike
  15. some very nice zeds in there. Also some brilliant ideas ( subwoofer idea for the rear mainly ).
  16. I'll have the $7500 stroker kit please! Actually i think i can afford one chrome moly rocker ! Back to my RB search.
  17. sexual sushi : i have a compressor and it is a small 2hp version. I made sure i was in the time limits for noise and it was closed off from the neighbourhood so the noise was negligable. I also have an anally retentive ex cop for a neighbour who somehow can afford porches etc etc. Cops must earn a lot of money here Anyway it is considered a commercial operation apparently if you are using a compressor to paint your car at a home. The fine was double the price of the whole paint and materials. Were you making noise outside the times that you are allowed ? And anyone else sometimes feel we are worse off now than we were in the 70's?
  18. I am buying an XBOX360 only for this game and only for the skylines / zeds and the e type. Might try to make a viczcar z ! though i have tried the skinning system and phew it seems rather hard. Maybe for forza3 we can have pc interactivity for the vinyl applications.
  19. there's that shocking aussie dollar to us dollar rearing its ugly head. I can get performance super lites for half the price to what is quoted on z store. Oh well i would nick em for your zed .
  20. when i painted my car ( note in queensland it is illegal to paint your own car in your shed - i had the cops called out to me as well as a QLD govt inspector ) the swirls were down to me attempting to get more time out of the buffer pads than i shoudl have. the buffer paste got all clagged up and swirls appeared . great job there though.
  21. keep us or keep me updated with the conversion. I too am sitting in an auto 2+2 and at the moment manually shift the gears ..
  22. can we get Sportmax 02's down here ? Look good. I'd take them ! Mike
  23. ok but... The cars are in a barn. They were found ( by the photographer who was asked by the owner ). Therefore it is a barn find. The story might have been modified from the truth but it is still a barn full of rare cars that before the photos were taken were unknown. Let a middle aged man have his wide eyed child like amazement moment for a little longer before the crushing weight of real life comes crashing back. PLease! ;D
  24. Sco aus : had to sell the v8 coupe. Daily driver costing me about 100 dollars fuel a week. Also I had had enough of the cop attention ( Best year to date was 10 "random safety checks" and 8 "random breath tests " last time the cops pulled me over as i was entering my drive ! ). It was only a normal coupe nothing too spectacular. 240z: Have you popped onto skylinesaustralia.com or something similar and advertise there? Most people on there understand power to weight ratios and turbos. If you mention that an 1100 kg 240z with an rb30 turbo is up for sale you should get someone interested. I think they have a place for non skyline areas or that might be calaisturbo.com.au which wouldnt be a bad place to try either.
  25. Honestly I think it must be money. It is worth the money that you are asking ( I know i am about to do the almost exact same thing to my car and yes if i didnt have a zed i would be flying to perth right now ). What people outside of car afficianados, cant see is that an rb30 turbo in a z is a very rare thing in AUS. further to that they dont realise that a 240z coupe in any shape is getting harder and harder to find. I tried to find a coupe for the money that i wanted to spend and ... well I settled and now love my 2+2. I wonder if there is still a stigma attached to owning an old datsun no matter how cool it is ? From my experience on ebay people are like poker players nothing happens until the last 12 hours when all hell breaks loose. You best gauge is how many people are watching. I had close to 350 people watching my xb v8 coupe and it got no bids for 9 days then 20 odd bids in the last 12 hours.
