Kylie and I are very proud to announce that she is pregnant with our first child. High five! She is 12 weeks today and the due date is April 12 - a day after my birthday! I could not dream of a better birthday present. Incidentally, I first met Kylie on my birthday and I proposed to her on my birthday as well so it's a fitting date for our firstborn. This, of course, presents some problems for the project but it's a very welcome problem. Look out for a for sale ad in the near future...

How much do you stand to save by going historic rego? If it's only a couple of hundred or thereabouts it's not really worth the hassle. So rego is cheaper. By how much? Do you get cheaper green slips? Cheaper insurance? This would be based on your usage level with the likes of Shannons anyway. Then there's the cost of joining the club and the attendance requirements.

They might look too bright but I wonder if that's because we're used to seeing old dull components, or because as you say, it was a different process which produced a duller finish. Either way, I don't mind the finish you have on that door hardware.

I just want to double check the original finish for certain items before I have them plated. I will reference numbers on some diagrams and state yellow or silver finish. Hatch 3 - Striker - Yellow * 4 - Dovetail - Silver 5 - Side striker - Silver 7 - Striker assembly - Yellow * 9 - Hatch hinges - Painted ** Door Top left - Dovetail - Silver Bottom left - Stopper - Silver Right - Striker - Silver Not pictured - Lock mechanism - Silver *** * Seems like all visible door and hatch components were finished with silver zinc so I'm just wondering if the hatch striker and striker assembly (lock) should be silver as well. I've seen a few images showing it with a yellow finish but this could be done by owners restoring their cars. It doesn't make sense for these components to be yellow with all others finished in silver. ** I've read somewhere that the hatch hinges were mounted to the car and then painted together which is why the bolts are the body colour as well. I'm wondering if they were zinc coated underneath to protect the sections where the paint could not reach. Either way, I'll be zinc plating mine prior to painting. *** I finished my door lock mechanism in yellow which I believe is incorrect so I'll have to refinish it. I've seen a few photos now of the door sides showing the mechanism and they're mostly silver. Oh the joys...

I bought a kit for glass from this site: http://www.polish-up.com.au He was very helpful over the phone and service was prompt. I also purchased a bunch of wheels and bars for polishing metals. Happy with everything he supplied. I haven't tried the glass kit yet but I will need to very soon.

Stripping a car in that condition is frustrating and very time consuming. Nothing comes off without a fight and often ends with hammer in hand and tears dripping on already rusted metal. Time is generally more valuable than the pocket change you'll make out of that mess.

I believe they were plated with the thin arm section being stainless so just polished there. I haven't done much research but looking at the metals used on mine that's my guess.

Are they made to fit the S30 or are they a general size? Just concerned about the door zipper location and whether it will work as intended for the 2 seater. With the above satisfied, I'm in for 1.

Yeah that's right. Why not try to collect previous owner history, even if it's basic, and what happens when you sell your car? Does the data get wiped and they start their own entry? With a car register instead of an owner register more useful and interesting information can be recorded.

If you're going to invest time in a register, this is the way to do it. The current register, and all other existing ones, are owner registers which is backwards. I'm not saying they're not useful, just cumbersome and their design prohibits participation and completeness.

That one actually looks like the one that came off my car (no idea if it's correct or not for a '70) except yours seems to be missing the outer 2 vertical mounting posts. What is the correct one for a 1970-72 car? I take it they changed in 1973 or am I off the mark there?
