  1. Rev Yep guilty as charged.......I spent most of the day talking with the Roadster guys and there weren't any commitee members there apart from our social sec who can get a little distracted with other stuff. I believe I was the only long standing NDSOC Zed owner there so I am one to blame for being "unsociable" so please accept my appologies. We have our annual Concourse at Southbank this Sunday so please feel free to come along I will make certain we meet (I usually end up judging the Zeds) Alan
  2. I cannot answer for Leah (NDSOC social secretary) and I, as with alot of members often get tied up talking with others we know and "neglect" potential new members or those new members we have not previously met.......(this can be the down side of a large and diverse club).....this is not intentional and should not be taken that way. However I also must be diplomatic and suggest that nobody came up to me to introduce themselves as potential new members.....so I think it works both ways I had the very same experience 20 odd years ago when I first joined the NDSOC.........it was only after I made myself known to members and was pro-active in introducing myself and engaging in conversation that I got to know the crowd Alan
  3. Rev I think there was really no question in the White Roadster being the winner of the "Best Jap" award had undergone an $70K + resto that involved a total rebuild of every panel (the body was remade by hand with precicely 3mm panel gaps) and every single component rebuilt. This car is actually far better bulit quality than the originals that came of the production line so I think well deserved of the Best jap award. My green Zed won the best 76 to 85 Sports award and whilst very clean and original........ it is not a patch on the Roadster. But as you say a great day out with plenty of jap product on display (almost half of all entries) Alan
  4. Guys Registration for COTW can be done on entry for $25 (to go to charity) See web site for details http://www.carsoftheworld.com.au/cotw.htm Nissan to be Feature Marque Nissan has been confirmed as feature marque for the 2008 Cars of the World Charity Event. The classic Roadster will be honoured in a special display that is hoped to see one of each model Nissan. The feature will also pay tribute to the 40th Anniversary of the Nissan Datsun Sports Owners Club.
  5. Guys You can try Camtech cams in NSW, thay had L6 billets in stock (well... six months ago) with quick response. Check out the spec sheet http://www.camtechcams.com.au/?q=node/31
  6. Everything else is identicle.......only the lid opens the wrong way, US cars had the choke and hand brake in the same place as the RHD cars
  7. The 4.11 spins at 3250 rpm in fifth at 100 km/h and is short thru the gears and almost locked due to very high break away torque, hence a little tiresome around town. The 3.9 will cruise at under 3000 rpm and will anly be torqued up to around 50 ft lbs so will provide more slip which will be easier on rear tyre wear and drivability.(longer thru the gears)
  8. Hi Guys I will be selling my R200 clutch pack 4.11 LSD within the next month (fitting a more street friendly 3.9 LSD) so I thought I would guage interest here before it goes on Feebay. The R200 diff centre is from a GTR skyline and can withstand 500+ hp and was built for circuit use with around 140 ft/lbs of break away torque (standard road LSDs have around 50 ft/lbs) , I bought it as a spare for my 240z race car which has now been sold so the diff went into my road going Zed.....which is over kill. The diff will come complete with custom made input flange shafts to bolt straight into a stock Zed uni jointed half shafts (manufatured by Chris Wood) and a 4.1 speedo drive.(the red one) It has only done approx 10,000 km since rebuild (new bearings, all new clutch plates and shims etc) so no refresh required. The diff is perfectly suited for a big HP track car .....Asking price will be around $1500 complete ready to bolt in. If you are interested let me know Alan
  9. Warren from All Zed parts in Sydney often has BNIB 260 consoles in stock, I picked one up last year, they are for the LHD model (lid opens the wrong way) but this can be reversed.
  10. yep..........after market with no holes for rubbers and no welded in mounting plates. I bought one after being told they only lacked holes for the rubbers, there are mounting holes top and botton however a custom bracket must be made to adapt to the existing brackets. I was offered a refund however I figure I can make the backets and it would cost me more to get my existing rechromed and the little dings knocked out
  11. Mike If you have a standard E88 head then this will have brass valve seats, unleaded fuul has no lead to lubricate valve seats and long term use will cause valve seat recession (compression of the valve seat into the head) and valve wear. "Valve Master" is a fuel additive which replaces the job of the lead (lubricates the valves) , it is not an octane boost as some my think . I found my valve seats badly worn after a few years of not bothering with a lead replacement additive.........replaced them with stainless seats and problem solved . If you have the original period cylinder head (all manufactured pre 1986) then I would suggest you use a valve lubricant (unless you plan to do an engine refresh in the foreseeable future)
  12. Unfortunately the Dyno I use does not have a printer so no dyno chart available, from experience it is pretty much on par with the dyno at Power Play (ex Datrally) and the AVO dyno as results have been within 1 or 2 kw either way. Head work was limited to match porting, CC'ing the chambers, big N42 style inlet valves, valves re profiled (U20 Roadster style) and generally cleaning up of the ports and chambers, cam is a 70/30 grind so nothing OTT, just a nice streetable grind that still pulls well in loow revs. As far as flat top pistons go, these are the same L24 83mm pistons, standard bore maybe hard to find but oversize can be found on the US ebay sites, (if you go over size you just rebore you block to suit. I found two sets of standard 83mm pistons via Lindsay Drife (Z shop) a few years back and other through Wayne Coucoud who was spare parts manager with Nissan. I have one set left which I am keeping for another project. Maybe try Brighton Nissan.....I think Trevor is still there and he can find most stuff that is often listed as NLA . Mikunis are not installed as yet as still waiting for the inlet manifold to be match ported......still a few weeks away from finding the time to fit and dyno. cheers Alan
  13. No need to drain the tank.........the fuel tanks are definitely 60 ltr I would suggest that you have the classic dodgy Z fuel guage.........all Zeds I have owned have had the same problem.......the guage will read empty and still have around 20 ltrs left in the tank. Hey maybe it was a design feature ?............as ther is no low fuel light ........giving you 20 lts in reserve when on empty

    Building a L28

No need to shave the head to up comp on an L26, this will only create problems as you need to shave a hell of a lot to go from 8.3:1 to 10:1. To shave that much off your head creat issues with your valve train as you will have to shim the cam towers to maintain timing chain tension and then go fat on the lash pads etc......this creates many headaches (in IMHO) Read my L26 refresh thread, find some L24 flat top pistons and you can up the comp to 10:1 easily and produce a nice tractable smooth engine that will equal the power of an L28 that revs freely to 6500 http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,2415.0.html
  15. A well tuned 260 should return 10 L/per 100 km on twin carbs hwy and around 13- 15 around town (depending on driving style and how you use the noise peddle) My 260 runs 10 ltrs per 100 on the hwy cruising at 100-110 and around 15 ltrs around town.....that is on 240 carbs and a 4.11 diff Zed fuel guages are notoriously inacurate (when mine is on empty there is 20 ltr left in the tank) so the only way to check fuel consumption is to record how much fuel your are putting as aposed to going by the fuel guage. Zeds on triples should not be too far off on the same figures on hwy cruise but around town that could blow out to 20 l/100km . A little money spent on a decent dyno tune will same you plenty fuel consumption . cheers Alan
  16. Try Camtech, they have/had billets in stock http://www.camtechcams.com.au/ They supplied my 70/30 cam and is it was ground from a billet it had a stock base circle hence no fat lash pads.........Or if you do need thick lash pads Chris Wood can machine (NDSOC member) . PM me for a parts supplier if you like cheers Alan
  17. As with every other Pommy show they try and replicate here in Australia.....end result can only be described as lame. ......and as for that really little beardy bloke ........was I the only one who found him incredibly irritating .
  18. The PCV is the Positive Crankcase Ventilator valve which vents the block to the inlet manifiold, this one way valve draws gases and pressure from the crankcase into the inlet manifold for combustion. Follow the hose on the left of the block up to your inlet manifold, you will find the PC valve in the balance bar between the two inlet manifolds. The problem is once you go to triples there is no facility to vent the crank into the inlet manifold, equally acrros the cylinders (no balance bar) most install a catch tank and vent the crank and rocker cover into this. The danger of venting to the brake booster is the danger of loosing boost pressure after multiple hard stops. cheers Alan
  19. John spend the $$ on handling, brakes and tyres......and practice, they will improve you lap times far quicker than more giggawatts under the hood..............lots of mumbo under the right foot is not much good if your car won't go around corners. IMHO anyway
  20. well he obviously learnt the hard way.........I reckon at least $15- $20K damage to his Zed.....all for being over exuberant. What most guys don't understand is that kitty litter does not pull up a a modern car with ABS, (as well as it should if you run head on into it) the gravel does not build up in front as the wheels are still turning .........I have experienced this first hand and very scary when you are standing on the picks and the car is still skipping over "beach" heading towards a tyre wall. This may well have contributed to the amount of damage done to the 350
  21. Not sure , it was a Brick red 350Z with an asian guy driving it, I saw it off loaded from the flat bed just outside the circuit when I was leaving.
  22. I was down their for the Sunday Sprint with the Roadster, John Geist (240Z) lost a front left wheel at Southern loop....the wheels nuts !!.....fortunately it was only the warmup lap and the only damage was a scruffed spoiler and soiled underware . Dave Robertson was there also. Weather was good but the howling Northerly made the back of the circuit thru Lukey heights hard work....but the run down pit straight was quick Lap times were very slow being posted so will have to wait for the web site to be updated....did a 2:05 on my first lap out for the day but my LSD let go later so not hoping for anything fantastic. Geisty was doing 1.58s in his 240 with his 15 year old son doing 2:15s in his first time out at P.I. The 350Z sustained major damage when he came off at Southern loop and bounced off the tyre wall resulting in plenty of front right cnr and drivers side damage....P.I can be very unforgiving . In all a great day out and now reinspired to get the Zed on the track again.
  23. Can I suggest you join the Sydney Z club...........a great bunch of blokes and plenty of advise if you want to get into club sprints or full on circuit racing. Step one Go along to a sprint meeting and talk to the guys about what is required to compete (L2S license, car set up , scrutineering, sup regs, registration process etc) Get some track time and some instruction...........after a year of sprints you then may want to step up to circuit racing .....and really start spending big $$$$$ http://www.zcarclub.com.au/ Alan
  24. My old group Sc 240Z.............now sold...... And my 260Z Sunday driver............and my Roadster (Ok it's not a Zed but the door handles and gear box are same )
  25. This year it is hosted by the Z club of QLD Event is in Warwick...........Southern QLD Easter 2009
