I can't help with your question but welcome. You should start a "build" thread, I'd love to see pictures and hear your plans for the car
-
ahhh yeah thats the one i put as my desktop as well Yeah Nigel's pretty much done everything right, it's nearly exactly what I was planning to do to my 2+2. Same money I was looking at to finish it but I could drive it now and its a 2 seater (something I was always a little disappointed about my project car). I'm slowly starting to make it mine, the s14 gearbox and little additions to the engine bay. Should be picking up my stroker crankshaft and rods tomorrow, I'll be happy when thats done but I don't think I'll be able to afford to build the engine for a while. I've got the hilux callipers for the front and then I'm thinking I'll put the wrx rear end on it (cv's and lsd) and while I'm doing that I'll tidy up underneath the car. It's really the only place that needs attention. But all of these are long term plans unless I can fall into some money soon For the meantime I'll keep finding excuses to drive it and talk to all the people at the servos, car parks etc oh and keep taking a million photos of it

oh right, i just read it properly do you know what pearl red you are going with? the new 370z red looks pretty nice from the pics but they are so photoshopped these days its hard to really tell.

maybe if he got a haircut he could see the spanner coming for his face haha but i can't talk, my hair isn't exactly short Good work. I like your inspiration, there seem to be a few guys wanting/working on black zeds atm

nice work on the su's did you just use wet and dry or a buffing wheel or dremmel or all of the above? just to further the 2+2 parts debate from october... the 2+2's are definitely easier to get used parts for them as they are more common in Australia. To get new parts however is the exact opposite. As an example you can get brand new 2 seater 1/4panel badges for about $50us whereas the 2 seater badges are about $200us. It's very similar with the internal trim as well. This is partly because they remade a lot of the parts for the 2 seaters when Nissan where doing their factory refresh on the zeds in the states. Anyway good luck with the car and keep posting pictures.... we love pictures

Wow thanks everyone It's good to be driving it again, it was off the road for about 3 months. I think I've pulled my neck from turning around and looking at it every time I park it and walk away haha. I'm at work atm and haven't got the high res. If you click on them there is a 1200x800 version. I'll upload full size files when I get home tonight.

haha very true, but i suppose if you are stuck in a subaru you are probably dead in another car anyways thats enough of a hijack. Edii, I can't remember did you get a 260 in the end or was it a 240z? Cause I have a spare dash in my 2+2 parts car that I could have a practice on. Only problem is that I'm not in gladstone too often these days...

I thought what Lurch said would make sense, so I called my dad who works for Queensland Fire and Rescue as they usually know this kind of stuff from accidents. Anyway, he wasn't aware of it being an issue and another guy who works with him who is also a big car guy said that the dash isn't part of a roadworhty checklist so it should be fine. Just my 2 cents... As a side note, I remember finding out from the fire station that the frame for the WRX's cabin is so strong that the jaws of life will not cut through it and they had to inform the crew on how to cut it open. What's even more remarkable is that that model of wrx had been around for a while so in all those years there had never been a need to cut someone out. If I am ever in an accident I hope I'm in a subaru

Hey eddii, long time no speak. Check out this link, have a look at tstewart's post halfway down the 2nd page then go back and have a look at the first page. I think tstewart's is the best result I have seen from this method. Basically I think its a matter of spraying the right distance away from the dash to get the best texture... http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23919&highlight=dash+repair&page=2 A few guys here have done something similar http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php?topic=1618.0 But, in my opinion, nothing looks better then a freshly skinned dash. Apparently its up to $700 at dashboard restorations here in Brisbane but I think it's worth it. I'm still going to have a go at this DIY method cause I want to make a custom center console eventually Ps ill be heading back to Gladstone for the long weekend in June, I'll have to come around and have a look at your progress

I haven't had any suspension work done by them but I got new tyres and a wheel alignment there. Very very friendly and helpful (gave me a number for a guy to get my harness engineer approved). And the cars they work on are pretty much all race cars. They always have exotic race cars out the front, they used to work on a ford gt40, until he blew an engine or something

you must have been good? Thanks everyone ok so my first post has reached the maximum characters for a post so here is day 3 Day 3.... ...we got to the drags in time to see a couple of Z's getting flogged down the strip. For me, there is only so many times you can watch a pair of cars being driven in a straight line for 14 seconds so it wasn't long before we moseyed over to the track. <a href="http://www.shaun-maluga.com/Images/Z/NDN09/NDN09_Day_3_001.jpg"><img src="http://www.shaun-maluga.com/Images/Z/NDN09/NDN09_Day_3_001small.jpg"></a> <a href="http://www.shaun-maluga.com/Images/Z/NDN09/NDN09_Day_3_002.jpg"><img src="http://www.shaun-maluga.com/Images/Z/NDN09/NDN09_Day_3_002small.jpg"></a> We got seated just as a heavily worked r34 and a new r35 started around the track. The r35 was fast but was very tame (quiet and poised) which didn't give the impression of speed like the r34 howling down the straight. We stuck around to see a handful of zeds do a few laps, the most impressive for me probably being Team McEvans (White with blue and red stripes), Wilbur's rbZ (silver with flares), a kitted out race car (blue red and white with the headlights filled in) and a very fast red with yellow stripe Z that ran with the skylines and a 180sx (sorry that's the only info I have). <a href="http://www.shaun-maluga.com/Images/Z/NDN09/NDN09_Day_3_003.jpg"><img src="http://www.shaun-maluga.com/Images/Z/NDN09/NDN09_Day_3_003small.jpg"></a> <a href="http://www.shaun-maluga.com/Images/Z/NDN09/NDN09_Day_3_004.jpg"><img src="http://www.shaun-maluga.com/Images/Z/NDN09/NDN09_Day_3_004small.jpg"></a> <a href="http://www.shaun-maluga.com/Images/Z/NDN09/NDN09_Day_3_005.jpg"><img src="http://www.shaun-maluga.com/Images/Z/NDN09/NDN09_Day_3_005small.jpg"></a> <a href="http://www.shaun-maluga.com/Images/Z/NDN09/NDN09_Day_3_006.jpg"><img src="http://www.shaun-maluga.com/Images/Z/NDN09/NDN09_Day_3_006small.jpg"></a> <a href="http://www.shaun-maluga.com/Images/Z/NDN09/NDN09_Day_3_007.jpg"><img src="http://www.shaun-maluga.com/Images/Z/NDN09/NDN09_Day_3_007small.jpg"></a> <a href="http://www.shaun-maluga.com/Images/Z/NDN09/NDN09_Day_3_008.jpg"><img src="http://www.shaun-maluga.com/Images/Z/NDN09/NDN09_Day_3_008small.jpg"></a> <a href="http://www.shaun-maluga.com/Images/Z/NDN09/NDN09_Day_3_009.jpg"><img src="http://www.shaun-maluga.com/Images/Z/NDN09/NDN09_Day_3_009small.jpg"></a> <a href="http://www.shaun-maluga.com/Images/Z/NDN09/NDN09_Day_3_010.jpg"><img src="http://www.shaun-maluga.com/Images/Z/NDN09/NDN09_Day_3_010small.jpg"></a> <a href="http://www.shaun-maluga.com/Images/Z/NDN09/NDN09_Day_3_011.jpg"><img src="http://www.shaun-maluga.com/Images/Z/NDN09/NDN09_Day_3_011small.jpg"></a> <a href="http://www.shaun-maluga.com/Images/Z/NDN09/NDN09_Day_3_012.jpg"><img src="http://www.shaun-maluga.com/Images/Z/NDN09/NDN09_Day_3_012small.jpg"></a> We left the track and headed back towards Brisbane mid afternoon. The drive was quite relaxing and topped off what was an excellent weekend. <a href="http://www.shaun-maluga.com/Images/Z/NDN09/NDN09_Day_3_013.jpg"><img src="http://www.shaun-maluga.com/Images/Z/NDN09/NDN09_Day_3_013small.jpg"></a>
