Hi all, I'm planning on heading down for the next workshop hosted by lurch and Peter (see here: http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,7654.0.html) I was thinking of coming down earlier and doing some photo shoots. ATM this is just an expression of interest, but the shoots would ideally be done on Friday the 21st or possibly Sunday the 23rd of January. A photo shoot would be $300 and you would get a disc of all the best hi-res photos from the day from which you can print, upload, copy etc. Anyway here are some of my other photos if you haven't seen them floating around the site:

Rebuilding a 280zx Electronic Distributor
sexual_sushi replied to gav240z's topic in Electrical systems
Please take anything I say with a grain of salt as I am just learning about dizzys. Hence why I want to rebuild the ones I have so I can know more about them. I believe this is part of the vacuum(?) advance. The suction that pulls on the diaphram pulls an arm attached to the breakerplate assembly. The bearings allow the breaker plate to rotate giving you your advance? I read of a guy who made his own housing for the bearings (the brittle plastic part that always breaks) and he said the differences in tolerances had an affect on how easily the plate rotated which changed the amount of advance it gave. This could be a good or a bad thing I suppose. So you can play with the mechanical advance by adding/subtracting weight. Apparently the difference in the weights that came with the dizzys was from the manual to auto cars. 8.5 was stamped on the weights that came in the manual cars and 9 was stamped on the autos. (The one infront of me atm has 8.5) For the vacuum advance, apparently you can adjust the vacuum arm range with a screw. Apparently this differed for different years and I believe the actual size of the dashpot also changed throughout the years. I suppose all of this means you need to know exactly what your advance is currently doing and what you want it to be doing! I'm sure there are a few guys on here that know a lot about dizzy's so feel free to correct anything -

I'm about to do 2 so I'll document them but I'm pretty much just following tutorials from other sites like the one you listed and this one: http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/distributorrebuild/index.html -
I'm rebuilding one atm. Was gonna chuck it on ebay when I'm done starting at $300 but hoping to get more. It has a new breakerplate assembly which contains the little bearing housing that is broken on pretty much every dizzy that hasn't been reconditioned.

+6 Do we have a winner?? Not that my vote counts, I'll have to see how the funds go or if I can plan the trip around something else for the misses

Haha it's all good mate, I knew you were only messing around, although the rust comment makes more sense now Anyways I have had it back for a while now and I'm very happy with the results. Here it is after a day of cleaning, just waiting for the wax tomorrow... <a href="http://www.shaun-maluga.com/Images/24tzd/_MG_5464_FS.jpg"><img src="http://www.shaun-maluga.com/Images/24tzd/_MG_5464_Small.jpg"></a>

Nice work Lurchos A brake upgrade day would be good. Ideally it would be good to see a variety of options and how they were done (ie wilwoods, 280zx/maxima, hilux, r31 etc) but this would obviously be dependant on the participants. I have a set of r31 brackets for the rear and some hilux calipers for the front that I'm probably gonna put on my daily driver but obviously my z isn't in Melbourne

I assume he means this 260z which IS currently for sale

Get the Just SU's video and 240z-280zx videos from Z Therapy http://www.ztherapy.com/ Steve and I post this all over the forum, telling people to get these videos and for good reason... these videos are bloody excellent! The one about su's you could show to a 6 year old and have them rebuild and tune your carbies (nearly). The bloke who said to put a holley on it should be shot. Like others have suggested, I would get a set of 240z round tops BUT also buy a decent rebuild kit for them (order it from ztherapy at the same time you get the videos). The original 240z round tops, with the original linkages etc have a pretty fool proof design when it comes time to tune. When you're done send a copy of the video to your mechanic to teach him a thing or two

Haha yeah Z threads I think they are about 8mm??

Hi guys, I had the rubber line that goes from the clutch slave cylinder to the hard line made up for my car recently and got a spare made up because I figured someone could use it. Brand new, never fitted, $70 I'll put it on eBay in a couple of days if knowone here wants it. Cheers Sushi

Speaking of Ferraris Greg, I think I saw a video of a 60's/70's one that had similar lights to the 240 but same problem, probably rarer and more expensive than the 240!

Honestly, the main thing about a photo is the lighting since your camera is just a light capturing device. Even a mobile phone camera can take a descent photo if you have the right lighting. Time of day or location is key. Ideally shoot in the morning or late afternoon. Most people want a nice blue sky outside when shooting but a nice overcast day creates really nice lighting and you can shoot at pretty much anytime of the day. These photos where just taken quickly when rev was leaving the workshop held over the weekend so we didn't have many options for lighting/location etc. but I think it turned out alright considering. Now the most important thing... PHOTOSHOP. Nearly every professional photo is edited in someway in photoshop these days. It could be the basics like adjusting the brightness/contrast/exposure of an image and colour tweaking to some more complex things like removing distracting objects, adding in skys etc. But Photoshop can't make a bad image into a good one, you just use it to enhance your images, so you need a good base to start from anyway. I happy to teach people photoshop or do a photoshoot or any photoshopping work for pocket money, just send me a msg Anyway, back on topic...

Absolutely brilliant day! Big thanks from myself and the old man to Lurch and Rev and all those involved with organising. It was well worth the flight down. Scoota, good to see it's fixed and all back together I'm back, hopefully I'll be able to get some pics up tomorrow night.

Got into Melbourne tonight It's alright, my old man makes up for 4 people in size and volume, you'll experience it tomorrow
