  1. Hahaha or maybe it would have 2 big hands?
  2. Thanks guys, great posts. I'm 99% sure it is externally regulated. Now that you mention it there was a smell in the engine bay that I couldn't put my finger on. Not sure if the battery was dry or not, the old man put it on charge while I was at work (every time he drives it he brakes something ). Anyway I'll do some more testing/replacing and I'll post up my progress. Cheers
  3. Went to start the 240z (1973) one day after not driving it for a couple of weeks and the battery was flat. After charging it up I noticed the clock was running extremely fast, took about 15 minutes to do a full hour on the clock which it wasn't doing before. I have disconnected it but was wondering if this would be a problem with the clock or something else in the system? I have also noticed the fuse box getting too hot to touch around the taillight fuse (bottom left corner). I think this is a common and possibly unrelated problem (fuse that the clock runs on doesn't seem to be too hot). This link http://datsunzgarage.com/probs/index.htm has a few fixes that include resoldering the wires to the fusebox and/or soldering a wire across one side of the fusebox. They also mention running a wire from the alternator to the +ve battery terminal so the charging system doesn't have to go through the fusebox. Any thoughts on these options? I suppose I should pull the fusebox out and check out the connections although I know Nigel put a brand new original Nissan center console and fusebox in when he restored the car. Cheers
  4. Found a 2 seater or the pieces you need? Haha I kind of want to see what you come up with, not because it's easy or convenient but just because you can. Sometimes a bit of engineering can just be impressive like the "chopped z" that has been hanging around the interwebs for a while now but not finished or this bmw powered build over at hybrid http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/79806-rt260-bmw-m-powered/
  5. I like the design scoot! Now get some paint on it
  6. Never mentioned earthing to the head unit improving sound quality, was saying that having a solid earth for the amp would be ideal, either grounded to the neg battery terminal or to the starter motor like garvice said. If that wasn't possible, then grounding to the chassis and if not then grounding to a grounding point under the dash, in that order.
  7. Haha yeah now I can sell my ice-cream van
  8. Haha it's a bit of a tradition for me, I've been going with the same girls since about 2001. And seeing as though knowone was keen on having any photos taken while I was down there, I probably couldn't afford it. Anyways I'll see if I get tickets on Thursday before I pull out officially.
  9. Oh sh!te, i thought it was meant to be the week after! I even googled it not long back to check, all the speculations was wrong apparently :S
  10. I'm up for a run too, just have to check my calendar as I'll be doing some digging and cementing around the house that week...
  11. No they all just had clutch, pressure plate and throwout bearing.
  12. Yeah so if you are ordering I would say knowing what model gearbox you have is more important than what year car you have.
  13. Yeah the whole assembly (yellow bit in the picture) so from the flywheel to 'fingers' on the pressure plate. Should clarify that it is the whole pressure plate that is thicker, not sure about the actual clutch disc. I'll modify the previous posts so it's a bit more accurate.
  14. Looks like I may not have this part so if anyone else can help out, please let zedback know!
  15. If they are the flat tops I might have one here you can have. I'll have to check on the weekend, it's burried behind a pile of sh!te atm. Would obviosuly have to check the length as well...
  16. Hey mike, I installed the wrong clutch kit in my 260z a couple of months back, there is definitely a difference between some of the clutch kits (I think repco had 2 listings for the 260z so possibly there was an overlap somewhere) The taller pressure plate is 10mm(?) or so deeper which was enough for the slave cylinder piston to nearly pop out when you depress the peddle! The shorter (earlier?) clutch kit has the part number R63N from Repco. I can't find the number for the taller pressure palte/clutch kit but they should be able to tell you if you know the other part number anyway. It is the more expensive one at $230 (I think the shorter one was about $180?) The first one they sent me had been used so I took it back and they upgraded me to an Exedy clutch kit ($270) for free as they didn't have anymore stock replacement kits in Brisbane at the time I've definitely still got the shorter one here out of the car so if it makes it any easier you can borrow it to compare heights...
  17. Stole this from www.zcar.com Alright you race guys, who do you think is in the wrong? http://www.topgear.com/uk/car-news/370z-crash-2010-09-08
  18. Good idea Gav. I didn't mean to start another 'my car is worth what I say it is' and 'your car is worth what I'm willing to pay for it" argument that we seem to have every 6 months haha. Just stating that on the day I was looking, the cheapest 240z on carsales was $18000 and I think that is shocking for any z owner I think the issue has always been with the zeds, what people want for them doesn't really reflect what you can pay for them if you are patient and look around. As the bargains you can find lying around dry up, the price will go up. But at least I know I probably won't be losing any money on my cars. I could have bought a shitty little new 4 cylinder car for $20k that is now worth maybe $10k or my zed which is probably still worth what i paid for it, if not a little bit more. In my opinion, based on the photos I would say $14000-$16000 for this 240z and that price is paying more for the style rather than the workmanship, no offence to the seller. Hopefuly he can get something in the $20k range
  19. Yeah I was looking on one of the car sales sites the other week and the lowest 240z was $18000 and the highest was $95000 There was quite a few on there too. When I bought the yellow car 3 years ago there was only a couple in that year that were lsited for more than $18000
  20. Hmm must have just been an optical illusion, looks fine in the other pics
  21. That camber can't be legal! Tough looking z though
  22. On my 240 and 260 they are definitely different but the 240 has been restored and the 260 is full of random parts so they mightn't be a good guide...
  23. Greg-o-vision is working well!
