This is bull Tassie government pay v8s to come here and race now we have to put up with a 1 hour delayed highlight package to see it if we cant make it to race track Sick of fat cats at V8s and Afl making money and giving nothing back to the supporters Mick

geez I need more hp to keep in front of u Hodgo never managed to break my r180 with old Nissan v8 or r200 with new v8 did fry some clutches but hey that was Nissan fault for only fitting 2 instead of 6 Might have to buy some new tyres for barrington if I want a chance of beating u that hill mick

Im very happy with 4.3 diff improved my lap times at Symmons plains The gearbox ratios work much better pulling hard in 5th into coca cola corner And on Hillclimbs ratios work well and launches a dream last Hillclimb i was matching the targa winning evo10 with launch control to first timing mark And it still cruises happily in 6th on 1700 revs for 110 kph Surprised you got through rego here with hydraulic hand brake but good luck to u What part of the state u in Justin Mick

Agh now I know your car was told it was sold to someone in Tasmania Im running my own custom 1 7/8 4 into one extractors twin 3" exhaust t56 gearbox r200 4.3 lsd diff 243 heads performance manifold tune and cam Bilstein shocks and most of Arizona z car earlier suspension components arms and coil overs plus Arizona z car 6 spot front and 4 spot rear brake package Topstage front spoiler and undertray Jim cook racing rear spoiler 18 simmons wheels and a Bit of nitrous for fun at powercruise Love to see your car in the flesh one day spent a lot time talking to Andrew and swapping emails with info for his build Mick
-
With new heads manifold and throttle body got car re tuned and managed a 400.4 hp at wheels with 70hp shot of nitrous got it up to 438 hp was very happy with this result my search for power is over having broke 400 hp barrier Took car to powercruise running real well till last drag practice when I broke and cv shaft Im blaming local cv workshop as when I asked him to cut a new circlip slot in to allow cv race to move up shaft to shorten it little bit more which he said he did When I pull it apart he took circlip off and welded 3 spot welds at end of spline can see where crack starts on one of the welds Guess heated treated shaft don't like welding even I knew that not happy Now anyone out there should know how rare these z31 axles are becoming I Read a thread that Nissan pathfinder shafts have same spline so I bought couple and yes shaft has same spline so I can use z31 cv joints on shaft Joints look fine no signs of wear or abuse But shafts are 40mm short so Im thinking this is a positive as well might need a spacer but can now set shaft up with some movement not tight like it is with the z31 shafts Ill let u know how it fits up Mick

Well nearly ready for powercruise next weekend and 2 hillclimbs next month Built a new set of 1"7/8 4 into one extractors and had them ceramic coated New 243 heads fitted should lift compression from 10 to 1 to 11 to 1 New typhoon manifold fitted and 92 mm throttle body seems to go a lot harder with these mods Will check hp figures on dyno at powercruise Was thinking grill looked to big so I made a zed badge to fill the gap

Zed drove home just fine Hodgo fastest car to drive there and home again Baskerville sounds good need to have a look at next years calendar and make it happen Mick

looking good hodgo you really got the old girl going hard Mick

Well after arriving at the Hillclimb in light drizzle never thought id get a my best time for the hill After driving there with 2 wheels in back and the other 2 on passenger seat I nearly didn't bother putting good rubber on in the wet so glad I did By 3rd run it was starting to dry out was happy to run in top 2 to 3in the wet and dry all day People that watch the numbers were shocked to see me matching it with Eddie Maguires Mt bulla winning Evo (and quickest car at the hillclimb) off the line to the first split So must say the new springs work for launching car feels twitchy compared to old springs but is working much better Thanks for pic hodgo Mick
-
To me best way to go ls is buy a wrecked commodore that way you get wiring computer and gearbox And then sell off rest of car Had customer end up with all the gear he wanted for $3000 My std ls1 put out 295 hp at wheels with mafless tune added a cam and got 400 hp at wheels easy cheap hp Ls2 are easy to find now and would give better hp than my ls1 But there is also cost of install extractors ,wiring loom mods ,computer tune to turn off securitys on computer, mounting kit ,gearbox mount , and lots little headaches on along the way Mick
-
You need a Camaro or corvette sump to fit ls motor into zed car can buy gate plates to fit Camaro sump I found out hard way that early ls engines don't like standard sumps on the track 4 laps of Symons plains and my motor was scrap metal Havent had problem with second motor and an a gated sump Mick

Yes it was butchers day mainly went to take daughter up and get her some coaching Did get some new ways of thinking about cornering for myself Was handy to try new spring set as well only disappointing thing was they had 2 chicanes in back straight to try and keep us under !50 km lol and had us going through the bus stop as well like the bikes that was bit of fun Do u reckon id get people wanting the navigators seat Thought I just who was silly enough to jump in there All lyle used to tell me in rally days was hold it don't back off don't think I ever heard him call a corner Thanks for the pics Mick
-
I think im running 19mm rear and 22mm front bars Struts are bilstein all round getting old but done very little work Chassis is fully seam welded Not sure on the theory but car seems much more progressive and controllable with the softer springs in Looking forward to seeing u guys down here again Craig Mick
-
Thanks Hodgo ill take that advice im sure your telling me for the best reasons Lol But I already changed the springs and car felt much better at Symons today putting power down much better with the softer springs even on my old ku36 semis Hopefully a50 will grip even better at Highclere Might still buy some 280 and 336 springs and try them Roll cage and and log book ticked off by inspector just need to send application off now So next weeks jobs change heads to better flowing ls6 ones pull my new 1"7/8 extractors off and send them off for ceramic coating Mick

Wanting to do a the Mt Poatina hillclimb I was told I need a cams approved cage So I bit the bullet and pulled my car apart major job as much of the carpet was glued down pulled old cage out Bought a new Bond roll bars half cage and set it all up got local workshop to weld it in Then while car was apart thought id lower seats 50mm fit some dynamat to stop noise and heat and put new harness in Got it all back together last week in time for Barrington hillclimb Drove up on street tyres with sticky tyres in back and on passenger seat so no trying things out Was smiling loving new lower driving position plus added leg room from getting full seat travel now roll cage brace is in back and not in main hoop Was perfect day sunny and dry Last 2 runs at barrington have been Cn the wet What a shock when I did first run no traction ok 2nd will be good once tyres get some temp no better didn't get any better during day my best was only .25 of second quicker than best on a wet run earlier in the year Car was just bouncing around and not getting any grip Im thinking new bracing from roll cage must have stiffened back end up and that with 440 lb springs im running in rear and 380 in front is was just too stiff Off to Symons plains tomorrow for a driver training course so ive fitted 250 springs all round see if that works better has left car sitting lower as well so one bonus already Getting cage and log inspection tomorrow as well so hopefully it gets tick of approval to make the effort worthwhile Hope it all comes together
-
My entry is in for Mt poatina hillclimb It was 7km run this year been told there extending it to 10 km for next year Check it out great bit of road Its in middle of the state near Cressy Hope I can organise a few days to tag along with you guys in zed that is not with a car trailer Lol Mick
-
I contacted Bond about 2 weeks ago and they quoted me $480 for a half cage bent and ready to weld in plus freight Not sure on your state rules but here in Tasmania a full cage would make a car unregisterable for normal street registration We do have special interest rally rego down here which allows cars with full cages and other race modifications to be registered but very limited usage ( only allowed to be driven to events workshops for repairs and promotion events) Might be worth checking with your transport if u want to still use car on street As 240z is 2 seater under our rules can fit half cage and still have full registration I did build my own half cage 20 years ago but having done it id recommend getting someone to do it or buy a pre bent kit lot headaches in building one Mick

I fitted a Barina powered steering column to my rx4 feels good (rx4 was very heavy steering system) and has made huge difference to the old rx4 Don't think the Barina system would fit in a zed car as I had to modify dash on rx4 a fair bit Know of 3 Tas cars running similar in rally cars a sprinter skyline and 200b all seem very happy with them I fitted adjustment pot but cant really find and difference with it adjusted either way But I prefer the feel zed steering the way it is cant see myself changing it mick
