After last track day was pretty sure lsd was not working Left hand rear worn close to canvas was a good pointer Pulled diff out found my 4.3 diff was a poverty pack with only 2 clutches which now had no teeth and one was welded to spacer So guess ill be rebuilding it with 6 clutches and some good break away tension Next to pull gearbox out and check why it dont like staying in third gear Was hoping it was just the shifter i found was loose but tightening that up didnt fix it so guessing im up for a rebuild of the gearbox too Fun of going fast i guess Mick

Custom Built Mufflers: Any recommendations????
zed240au replied to KatoKid's topic in General Maintenance
With the width I think the size u suggest is very narrow for the pipe size of 2.25" Any commercial built mufflers like this are 8" wide even hotdogs would be 3.5' wide by 2 total 7" U need some space inside muffler to make it work Id be concerned that with only .5" around outside of tubes how effective muffler would be Might even be worth considering 2 long hotdogs or even 4 shorter hotdogs instead of custom muffler We have had lot of success doing this on VE commodores v8s I know 3/8 to 1/2" don't sound a lot but my rule of thumb fitting systems is if I can get my finger tip in the space little chance of it hitting works on most systems barr some diesel turbos which do torque a lot Would think the Bmw mounts would be reasonably solid and not allow a lot of movement On my car im running 2 15"spiral mufflers in front of diff and 2 12" hotdogs under diff with single rear muffler in standard placement spirals and hotdogs being 3" internals are 4" outside diameter Mick -
Custom Built Mufflers: Any recommendations????
zed240au replied to KatoKid's topic in General Maintenance
Checked all the mufflers I could today but nothing matches the sizes u require Spoke to our supplier that makes mufflers to order he was concerned with how narrow u want muffler suggested if u could squeeze it out to 7" wide he would be much happier to make Would suggest u check your car see if u can squeeze 7" for the length u want Id think u could as im running twin 3" pipes on my car with gap between them and still clears tunnel Id suggest u allow 3/8 to 1/2" gap around muffler I can still make u a muffler up to your size if needed let me know if u can squeeze in extra inch Mick -
I have peter used a cusco strut brace and cut the ears off the std cusco mount and welded them to the rear strut towers will post a pic tomorrow Mick

Speedway Motors - Australia vs USA

Hi peter I used the usa guys to get some exhaust bits for work as u say freight not cheap but parts where good priced well and here quick Mick -
I don't have a problem with the rule the formula seems fine but trying to dig up information for a car imported 40 years ago is not exactly thick on the ground and is a major challenge to find so when u manage to find a weight in print from a magazine time correct I would think that would meet the requirements The 280z is usa version of 260z and as such a weight printed in black and white as this rule requires should carry some strength its not just the 280z I quoted but I had articles that covered 240z 260z and 280z all with weights listed Just the 280z is the last of the s30 chassis and as such the heaviest listing I could find which is what the modification rules allow for I would think that having a standard car weighted at a weighbridge would be more applicable than this rule as it stands now mick
-
I wish u luck with your endeavour I played this game with transport here in Tasmania to them it has to be a listed weight of car as originally imported to Australia I supplied road and track articles for heaviest version of 240z s30 chassis being a 280z in usa which is listed as 1304 kg multiply by 5 equals 6.5 lt just enough for a de stroked v10 viper engine But all transport Tasmania wanted to talk about was 240z weighs 1068 kg (as listed surprisingly on Wikipedia) multiply by 4 equals 4.272 lt Did get transport Tasmania to agree to fitting ls1 5.7 lt but only due to me having applied for approval and had it approved before they started pushing the weight to capacity formula I do have a copy of original road track article which shows 280z weight if that's any use to u good luck Mick
