I am hoping to put the motor so the back of the head is basically touching the firewall and I have to make engine mounts, gearbox mounts and make the sump a bit bigger to fit an extra ltr of oil. I will also have to get the tail shaft shortened a fair bit. As this will be a circuit only car I can be a bit more creative as I dont have to worry about engineering etc. Ash

Im running as a 2a car in the vic state racing series But i will be running as an invited car in the 2B class (alot of the cars that run 2b in Vic are not really 2b cars anyway as they have illigal motor bits etc) Also as the rules have changed I could run in sports sedan class as an option. I am not really going out to win races as I dont have the money to invest into a winning car. I can still keep alot of they guy with race winning cars honest though Ash

I think we might be hijacking this post but here goes anyways The halfcut should be comming inearly april. In the meentime I am just finishing of the shell so hopfully it will be ready for the motor when it arrives in april. the motor should take a few weeks to put in (as I only have a limited time to work on the car on weekends) so it should be in and running may-June. Then a new cage will be put in. get the new logbook and ready to go! So I guess in short July-August is the target. Maybe I will be able to runa few of the last rounds of the State series? Ash

Not trying to be picky but you say your a bit of a purist and you want to bolt a turbo onto a car that never had one? Also the 240z (432) had a stright 6 twin cam motor back in japan so if you bolt in a rb its still in the spirit of the zed (in my opinion). I think its a good thing dave said about looking at a hp figure and seeing what motor fits that. I was running a tripple webbered l28 bored to 2.9l that puts out approx 250-280hp in my race car. I have now decieded to change the motor to a rb25det because to get much more out of the L series I would have to spend alot on money for not much gain. The Rb25det has about 250hp std (and probably a fair bit more tourque) so I am starting at a similar pwr to the L series but have alot more tunning potentioal. Ash

hi I havent done this before but thought I might be able to help. It says in my z service manula remove anchor plate nuts from reverse side and just to drive the shim/ anchor block out. I can see on th pic of your drum that there are some bolts/screws holding th anchor block on so if you can get to them and remove them then you should be able to get the anchor block off Ash

ok guys just to put it in money terms The race magazine I mentioned actually did a cost per kilo on the zed they lightened (cromole cage, acrylic windows, lighter wheels etc) and they worked out it was $200 (aus dollars) per kilo!!!!! So I think you guys might have a few grand worth Ash

also in the latest issue of race magazine (aussie mag) there is an artical on lighting your car and the guy who does it is doing it to his zed. Has costs and stuff aswell Ash

you could always pick up a 280zx setup from the wreakers pretty cheap with computer and loom and everything? Ash

I was lucky enogh to visit that place when I went to Japan The shop is sooo cool. I also took some video that I showed at one of the early vic z car meets. Ash

my race zed was 915kg with 25l of fuel fibreglass Hatch bonnet and front guards perspex in all windows execpt front everything stripped out fibreglass dash 1 seat but I did add a cage and bigger brakes and 16x10 wheels Ash

I know the early skyline with the L series fits I think they are around 1978. but not sure about 80's model cars. You can adapt a 200sx/180sx bosx by using an L series gearbox bell housing on the sx box and changin a bearing on the sx box( do a serach on hybridz and yoou should be able to find some info) Ash

FG is fibreglass I have a crappy mold for the centre console but the big prob I see is there a a few different types so its usually not worth the investment in the molds to make em all. It all comes down to price I rekon as I dont know many weallth Z owners who have the cash to get all the bits you mentioned (unless there really cheap:)) I think you would be better of making a list of items and suppliers with prices so people can buy as they want. Its really a labour of love when it comes to selling zed parts as no one wants to pay alot (as rob from zworx always said "it's not a Ferrari") I know from selling parts and fibreglass bit that most people want it for nothing and want it to be perfect condition at the same time.(not to say everyones like that ) when I first got into zeds it used to really piss me off when I rang Z shop or zworx for prices and they never had time to talk but now I understand why as there are so many tyre kickers out there. anyway I am ranting and raving again so I better end now Ash

yer jack that sounds right. I think 1500 is pretty good. you have to unpick all those damb spot welds and stuff around to fit a new roof so nothing better than getting it done properly . Ash

the rear towers are taller in some of the 2seater 260z aswell. Ash

dont forget its really hard to get wide tyres in 16inch make sure you double check you can get the size you want before you buy the wheels as I have had real trouble getting tryes to put on my 16x10 rims Ash
