1974 Datsun 260z 2 seater with rb25det - no longer for sale
zedevan replied to rb25zed's topic in Cars For Sale
LOL, I actually just bit the bullet and bought myself a functional, comfortable car to drive round in the mean time till my car is back on the road, maybe i'm getting old...and I'm kind of attached to my car... I do agree that I'd be better off buying this, but then I might be better off just buying an r32gtr! Goodluck with the sale, I'm very surprised I've still got it, but I guess ur location doesn't help -
my understanding is that these are a pretty standard item, ie most clutch fans have the same hole spacing so you can get another one from a wrecker for $30ish and put it straight on. my fan seized up so it was lossing power over 4000rpm which made it interesting to keep up with my mates 180sx at the time it happened! but i ended up putting some electric ones on there from a celica as there were two tabs coming off the radiator mount that had the same spacing....they definately rev up faster without the fan there!

unfortunately i have tickets to a comedy festival thing that night, so wont be able to make it

yeah simple enough to do at home with a drill, grinder and plyers. i'll pm u my details

get yourself some fd rx7 seats, they are nearly a direct fit, looks fairly similar to the stock seats, and have slots for the belts like you need, and are faily cheap, like around $500 for a pair. however unless u go to lots of effort you sit higher in them due to the fact they actully have padding lol. if you want you can come and and sit in mine and see if you'd be happy enough with the position.

...idiots! anything thats removable and worth $200 or more is potentially for sale lol. i was hoping to start tearing it down to sell parts but i'm alot busier than i was anticipating...how i miss the relaxing life of working full time! to get more off topic i've just bought myself a daily so i can atleast get around now again with functionality and a few luxuries how far off is the brace? the holes are oversized enough to take up a bit of slack, as the nuts aren't undergoing sheering stress against the holes this isn't an issue, so you could even slot them a bit if that helps, and thats all i did for the rear of my 260z, as luckily the brace was to long, not to short...and the way its angled i could just make it work!
-
it fit on mine (later 2 seater 260z) with no problems. the back one while it says 240/260 ofcourse just means the early 260's, however its not that hard to modify the brakets to work, and will sell mine if someone wants both of them as they aren't going to get any use for ages...
-
if the bolts are facing the diff then undo the nuts? as long as you can hold the harder to get to side you should be fine. The only issue i've had with it is the rear sway bar is in the way, so have had to undo it from the brackets so it could be swung out of the way

dam, i wish i had the money to waste, could possibly scrounge together a bit over 20g but i'd say thats not enough? get this one, would be an absolute beast, but i could see it being pretty dam hard to control once it hits boost!!! http://www.carsales.com.au/used-cars/private/CLUBMAN/PUMA/details.aspx?__sid=1189DF68C746&Cr=3&__Ns=pCar_PrivateSpecialFlag_Int32|1||pCar_ImageCount_Int32|1||pCar_LastModifiedDate_DateTime|1&State=All%20States&distance=25&silo=1003&seot=0&__Nne=20&R=5433045&__N=4294933671+0+834+285+257&Make=CLUBMAN&state_id=0&trecs=8

those flares look pretty awesome
-
you're more than welcome to see them, but ur going to have to come round to see them if you want to see them anytime within the next couple of years! Or you could buy them off me, lol There's a couple of guys on Hybridz who have done the swap in a similar sort of way, space out the back before you hit the tyre, and sealing this off is the only real difficulty
-
yeah i found it weird they said you could replace ur indicators with switches on the dash as i couldn't see them working anywhere near as well (but some car they had on topgear one time had these?) I had my headlight switch transfered to a switch that was just hanging from the dash and they were happy with that.

sorry Nat, i went and picked it up the other day. Thanks James!

i'm pretty sure the rear demister doesn't have to work. i'm not sure if there's a year where this changed but mines a 76 and it doesn't really work and it wasn't an issue, how would they test it anyway? i think its to much effort for them. The front one on the other hand has to work. i'm pretty sure my tint is darker than what rbz260 said, so mayb the laws are different in melb for that. some guys are happy with rust as long as its not structrual. meanwhile one guy i took mine to at one stage didn't like the rust on my outter door skins, but a couple of months earlier he was happy passing my brothers 80's celica which had rust in the A piller...so that doesn't make complete sense, and as zeddophile said its all up to interpretation! i took it to another mechanic and he was happy with the doors (so was the place that did the roadworthy when i bought it) The only other thing i'm aware of is your factory light switches and indicators dont have to work - as long as there is some way for you to turn on all the lights on the dash its ok! although one mechanic orginally didn't think this was the case. Also my car doesn't have hazzard lights and this wasn't an issue - although i would like to have them... if it doesn't look like there ever was a rear bumper i think you shouldn't have an issue at all, but even if it does it probably will be fine as there are other cars in vic without one on. One mechanic said i needed new seatbelts, another was happy with them. and i can't think of anything else right now. All in all you're probably best off to take ur car to a mechanic and see what he says. If you ask them before they look at ur car if they are happy for you to take up to a month to fix all the issues they are often happy enough to do so (instead of only giving you a week)

I had mine through GIO for a decent price when i was 20, although the car had to b 30yrs old for it to be cheap. I said i just wanted a quote for 3rd party fire and theft and they stated they only have classic insurance for cars that old and it was <400 for full comp. however the car engine wise was stock...
-
I'm allowed to use mine normally, the only thing they really asked was if its got club plates (or mayb it was just if your part of a CAMS club) and if u use it in concourse type events

from wikipedia "Molasses is a chelating agent. A rusty object placed for two weeks in a mixture of one part molasses to three or four parts water will lose its rust due to the chelating action of the molasses" thats the first i've even heard of molasses!

i was at supertrim for work and asked them how much a retrim generally was for door panels, seats and carpet along with other bits that generally age and crack on most cars etc. they said their average price is around 2g, but if you want to go to leather expect around 7g. They were doing a 944 while i was there and it looked brand new from the factory, nearly made the velourer look good lol
-
the chrome headlight buckets would produce an interesting amount of glare for oncoming cars lol. i wonder how they did it, if its a paint/coating or metal insert... at one stage i really liked the look of this style of hatch, but when i was thinking about it i atleast was going to buy a rusted out one to hack up, and not mould it into to the body so it could be swapped back easily! if an rb30de vvti 240z with coilovers sells for 30g then i dont see what luck this car has of selling for 25g

how does an rb26 sit with ADR27a? i guess i should look up what it actully is. was ur rb30 disallowed as it was using an 80's block, or something completely different? my car's an early 76 and has #27 sitting on the plate edit* from what google has produced so far, 27 and 27a seem to be to different things, is this the case and does ur car specify 27a? or is it just part of 27? http://www.autospeed.com/cms/A_2677/article.html "ADR 27A requires that each car built from July 1st, 1976..." maybe i just dodged that one? oh, and awesome car ash, did u end up getting motivation for some sort of gt kit? or to eager to get it on the road?

i was looking at buying a wreck from syd that i assumed couldn't roll/brake and found a company that would do it for $550 (most wont touch cars that dont move), i dont know their name, but i have their number in my other phone if u want me to dig it up
-
i agree with jp240z's way of thinking, now shouldn't we all want to offer him our pointless cars so auszcar gets money? and i vaugly remember the "argument" about donating members or something lol. i also agree with george that you should look in the JDM market and import a dam nice 432R, or fairlady if u want to be "cheap" so we can all have a look at it, assuming u'll stick around?
-
yeah it looks straight, but still a bit of effort to get it perfect i guess. i'll send you a pm
