  1. Gav this might be the article your were thinking of? Lynton
  2. Stick with the white/beige I get so many positive comments on the white as most cars are black interiors including modern day vehicles your biggest dilemma will be your door trims that are usually ultraviolet ray damaged faded or cracked and peeling but you could vinyl paint match your black trims to the matching white/beige the colour is so retro 70's, gotta love it! Lynton
  3. likewise a fusible link could do this, keep the engine running and give the wires a wiggle if faulty engine will stall lynton
  4. So your mechanic says it will beat anything on the road ....that doesn't mean race track? Lynton just questioning?
  5. I purchased my 260z coupe in 1975 for $7400 on the road brand new, traded my Datsun 2000 sports, the zed was like getting into a soft ford falcon by comparison to the 2000 however the Celica LT I looked at was $3490 on the road back then it was like buying a 2 door Kia coupe today compared to a 370z, Hope that answers the comparison. 6. My young bloke has an 88' Cali in Melbourne he is off to Japan shortly for his honeymoon but when he gets back he will probably sell it and by a conventional 4 door hatch Daniel Moore usually services the car and repairs & fixes lynton
  7. Check your choke cable is pulling both carbies and not slipping on one of them lynton
  8. Who does the original 260z steering wheel resto? Lynton
  9. Where did you get the 2+2 trims from a and what colour, they seem hard to get hold of? Lynton
  10. Look forward to the next post, some commercial oriental flair is good for the brand lynton
  11. Some really exquisite 2+2 and good prices starting to appear.......not before time either! Lynton
  12. Yeah pretty sure the car was Victorian based and owned by racetek mid 2000 must have been sold ended up in NSW? Lynton cool car!
  13. Patina....it is a beautiful word, far better than fully restored .....original and mint that is what I like! Lynton
  14. beautiful car good luck with the sale price seems very fair. Did you put up a note on how you went about your heating/aircond sounds a very interesting process Lynton
  15. No such thing as a greedy vendor, a buyer will pay a price that suits his/her budget if the item is good and that is what they want, they will be happy to pay the price to secure the item if they want it enough rarity plus supply and demand will also add to the price if they see benefit in it. lynton

  17. A Traditional problem with 280zx's from my experience, not fixable, new replacement required, expensive yes, but absolutely worth the money, the difference is magic Lynton
  18. Hey Al I don't think you sold to cheaply ...you met the market, most people don't, they start to high only to discount to make the eventual sale and wonder why it took so long to sell, there was also a red Datsun 1600 sports that was on the market about the same time as your car he also met the market and car sold within the week, it is like going to an auction establish the worth and look to buy if it goes beyond the business decision walk away continue to analyse your market in reality not what you dream + or - Lynton
  19. The moral of buying a classic is know the type of car you want to buy, narrow it down to the model, then inspect, inspect and inspect, the knowledge gained and what to look for ultimately raises your expectation of what you expect visually, mechanically and the necessary $$ one needs to pay for a car that suits the individual buyers expectations and if you miss out on a car, provided you have patience to wait, from my experience there is always another one. But be prepared to even fly interstate you will get to know the market and the cars Lynton
  20. Mmm! Well that being said, look at the numbers of 2 seater coupes at the Vic Nationals compared to any number of 2+2 's ? lynton
  21. So from the enthusiast side of the argument (matter of opinion) one is supposedly prepared to pay more for a 2 seater, why? Rarity? Heaps more rust and driving abuse? Most partially modified and non original hacks? A perception of better looks/style? I don't think necessarily so? Also from the enthusiast side of the argument (matter of opinion) the now diminished numbers of 2+2's most with more sedate previous ownership, more user friendly, many still original, but still prone to rusting out. Now as what happened in the 70's public interest was way less with interest in 2 seater vehicles, perhaps the 2+2 may come back and bite us with an even greater demand and very few decent cars left to save their souls ....ahh the Z legend lives on isn't that what it is all about, in my opinion type of Z is less important, the car being a Z is the importance? Lynton
  22. The last of the 260z's arrived in Australia with a plastic coating over the surface of the alloy wheels to prevent pitting from the sea air whilst being transported by ship to Australia. Ageing makes the clear coat go opaque gold. Lynton
  23. The nissan skyline gts was limited numbers, the 25th anniversary z32 by Steve millen was limited, the 50th anniversary z31 was limited, none of which seemingly hold collectible value .....yet? Just a quick example. Lynton
  24. Datsun/Nissan owners are their own worst enemy they only talk price down never talk price up, read any Japanese forum for any Japanese car for sale, it's always bandied around that "he" will never get that price it is only worth $...? It's time people talked up investment value in Japanese cars it is an education process that is why gtr xu1, gt falcons & monaro, 2 door falcon coupe, mustangs, the list goes on is why these cars are pulling those dollars. People talk them up! People are buying them like art work for future investment it is up to us to educate and create the Japanese market some people who have Japanese cars are to embarrassed to put them on the market for what the car owes them because the Japanese car community strikes it down, all cars cost similar money for ground up resto ' s and some hugely more, like anything you invest in you need support of the market place values, this starts with you this is also why sometimes it is hard to insure your car for what it is really worth, like an r100, prince gt, nissan silvia csp311, Honda 600/800, datsun 1500/1600/2000 sports, isuzu bellet 1600gt, & 240/260z to name just a few there are many jap classics I have not mentioned that are built like a watch, praise them up for change bring them in to automotive discussion of technical advances for their era not to mention equipment levels ....lynton

    Vapor lock

Vapour lock back in the 70's for the 240/260z was heat in the engine compartment after turning the engine off for a short period then trying to start the car again with the starter cranking many, many times before engine would start. Hence the heat shield over the manifold/extractors introduction of electric fuel pump and the vents in the late zeds bonnets, and foil insulation wrapped over the fuel lines. Hope this helps Lynton
