  1. Yep that's exactly why the North American nomenclature of 'series 1' and 'series 2' doesn't really make sense. I've even seen some of them refer to 71 models as series 1 and a 1/2 which is quite funny really. The console didn't change right away as mentioned, I believe 71 models got them and it was 72 when the transition happened. The removal of the vents in the rear hatch obviously happened before that. But like the console I believe was a change with chassis number more so than a year cut off. The consensus here seems to be that around the #500 - #600 range the rear vents in the hatch were removed. It would be interesting to see what the highest chassis number is that retains the early style console. Our market had the twin choke/hand throttle arrangement, but in North America the hand throttle seems to have been removed depending on state regulation. So the dual hand-throttle / choke mechanism and bracket is quite rare and expensive now.
  2. I kind of agree they don't belong at Goodwood, no history with them. They are replicas as far as I'm concerned. I know it sounds snobby but if you start to let those cars in why not everything else?
  3. More details and videos of said car here. http://www.chrispilling.tk/ Looks like it was originally a 920 Gold car. I think you could reverse most of the 'modern' stuff and have quite a nice car and it's numbers matching motor apparently?
  4. Pretty sure this Gumtree ad is. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/wetherill-park/cars-vans-utes/1974-datsun-260z-coupe/1086054983 For this car... http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,15793.0.html
  5. Wrong question. Q. Is the BRE spoiler the same as the 432-R rear spoiler? In which case I'd say yes... in that the BRE spoiler is a copy of the Nissan original designed part as first seen on the 432-R in 1969. .
  6. Fairlady 240ZG (HS30-H) http://www.goo-net-exchange.com/usedcars/NISSAN/FAIRLADY_Z/0120150901C4001113001/index.html Looks legit in that it has most the 'correct' looking parts. Price is POA so you know it's expensive, especially when the shop selling it is called "profit" or maybe it's PRO-FIT? Listed as a 2.4 Ltr and HS30-10****
  7. Awesome added to the list, I'm surprised how many are still around actually. This is good. I hadn't gone past the 200 chassis range yet as I was trying to account for those first but I guess I'll have to update with all the others up to 500 soon. This thread won't be the best long term solution but it's a starting point. What's interesting is how popular this thread has become... Not many topics out-perform the classifieds section of the site, this is just the last few days mind you..
  8. Very cool, but #409 and no hatch vents? Interesting...
  9. But it's a super low VIN number. HSL30 03176 LOL...
  10. Updated first post with the best picture I could get of HS30 00165. The URL it was last seen at was: http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Datsun-240Z-1970/SSE-AD-2795701 But none of the Internet Archive services I used could retrieve the page. So that was the best photo I could get of it. The 1/4 windows were welded over and the car was generally customised on every panel. As mentioned it's destined to become a Ferrari GTO replica now.
  11. Not sure where you are getting $20K USD from? I think the Australian new price is about $50,000 in today's money.
  12. 907 Green is an awesome early S30z colour.. This also tickles my fancy.. PS: I know they are different works rally cars. I just like all of them in that livery..
  13. PNG = Papua New Guinea I assume? Yeah I do wonder if Nissan officially exported some cars to pacific island nations? I just found these posts which sees to suggest Nissan may have been active in that part of the world. http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/51510-zs-in-fiji/ http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/23270-unusual-kenmeri-qld/?p=202243
  14. E31 cylinder head?
  15. http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/cto/5147382595.html Clean looking 72 240z on Craigslist USA. Asking $13,000 USD Colour appears to be 901 Silver, I still can't love it but it does look good on this car.
  16. Yeah it looked like he lost his brakes to me.
  17. So the original matching numbers engine is definitely no longer around? How original is it in terms of original bits and pieces? Assume they are stored elsewhere? I only know of the damage to the rear 1/4 panel, but is it bent in other ways also? It's definitely worth restoring, even without the original engine in my opinion. In some markets the engine number wasn't stamped on the ID plate. It is a significant car in my opinion.
  18. Look harder, compare the radiator support with other cars...What do you notice? Like I say, doesn't make it a bad car, both of my 240z's have had a minor front end nudge. But this looks like the radiator support bracket was removed? Suggesting maybe the support was replaced? In which case it might have been more than a nudge at the front. Even if the front end needs work to 'correct' it I still think it's worth 20K but the buyer should know what they are buying.
  19. Fairlady Z and Early Girl are synonymous with "gayness" in many people's minds it would seem. Personally I don't see the big deal when you have cars like Ford "Escort" or Mitsubishi "Pajero". http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Pajero
  20. Yeah thanks for the donation, can't recall if I sent you an email to thank you or not? Might have just updated your membership only. Sorry if I forgot, but thanks again.
  21. Count me in, just not sure what car I'll be in, won't be an S30z though...
  22. Perhaps don't be so hasty... http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,16060.0.html Not saying it isn't a good car, but front radiator support photos seem to suggest it's had a bit of a front-ender at some point. Would be best to see car in person and examine from there.
  23. Thanks updated first post, it's becoming clear I really need some sort of database for these cars. A car can have multiple photos and owners (past and present) so will need to devise something in the future. Still I've surprised myself as to how many can be accounted for so far...or at least others have claimed to have seen or there is some record of them.. @Alan - Do you know of many early/low numbered HS30 prefixed cars in the UK? So far it seems we in Australia got a lot of sequentially numbered early cars. We have discussed in the past that HS30 prefixed cars were sold in UK, Australia, Japan (71 onward?) and New Zealand and possibly South Africa (in very small numbers).
  24. That would do me fine.
  25. I've found a few posts here. http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/11674-philosophical-discusion-on-build-dates/page-1 http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/6707-production-number-for-1969/page-1 I haven't had a chance to read it all in detail, but I did find that some cars in the HS30 0002X range were Works Rally Cars thanks to Alan, also found HS30 00013 is now deceased.
