  1. From my experience about 16 years ago, very slowly. But there's no replacement for passion. Just keep in mind you should also enjoy your youth and don't try to finish it in a year. Spend your money on other things like travel and having fun with friends etc.. The S30z will always be there and you can finish it over a 5-10 year period if you have to. Everyone always said to me, someday you'll have the money but no time. Back then I had plenty of time and no money. I have to say in retrospect they were absolutely correct. I now have money, but my job keeps me so busy I struggle to find time. Still back then I could only dream of buying stuff like Rally Clocks, so there's always a trade off. Just enjoy your youth is the advice I'd give because you can't buy that back.

It's a great build, but doesn't interest me on the same level, the O.S Giken head is much more interesting because it's a cylinder head from that period. I love the fact that you're always challenging yourself to step it up to the next level Peter it's great to see.
  3. That 240z doesn't look so bad to me. If you have the space to keep it, I wouldn't sell it. They are only going up in value.
  4. Sorry to hear that, hopefully the new custodian takes good care of it. I can't sell my S30z's for the same reason. Especially at current interest rates on term deposits.

    HS30-00011

Car is with collector in Western Australia who owns several S30z's.
  6. Cool I love the old photos in particular. Did you paint the red car? Looks great in the photo.

    HS30-00004

Heavily featured in publications and used by journalists when the 240z was first launched in Australia. Has been well kept and in collector hands ever since it first arrived in the country and last known owner was Dr Harry Corbett.

    HS30-00003

Unconfirmed if residing in Australia still or not, last heard of as heading down the Mornington Peninsula Coast of Victoria wearing a purple coat of jam.

    HS30-00150

This car sat in a workshop for 20 years (since 1995) after it blew a head gasket and the motor seized solid. Still wearing Safari Gold (having had at least 1 additional coat of Jam from factory), it remained relatively original apart from the L28 block that was installed in place of the old L24 that was sadly discarded sometime in the 1980s. The car then went to South Australia after being auctioned off on eBay a couple of years ago. I purchased the car from someone who bought it from the eBay buyer (it was a deceased estate) and the seller didn't have the enthusiasm to take on the project. It now resides in a garage in Sydney, where I slowly ebb away at the rust work needed to be done to revive her and get her back on the road. The motor is also out and I plan to rebuild it soon.
  10. Nice garage! Wish I had that kind of space. The only orange colour was Kalahari Tan (918).
  11. The 260z rear beaver is a little different, so I guess it depends on your definition of suit. It could be made to work, but given the fact that the supplier still has not got back to me and the fact that the AUD vs USD is in constant decline I'm thinking I might wait to see if Wayne finally makes some. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/forum/37-automotive-panel-craft/ Otherwise there is motorsport auto, or hand fabricating them. Which will take longer, but I don't think it should be too difficult to replicate these pieces. The only part I'm not sure about is weather you would first give the piece the curvature with a roller and then add the indentation (for 240z / Early S30z's only) and the sections for the bumper + exhaust cut out or if you would do those first and then attempt to roll it. I think rolling first makes more sense than after. Just takes a lot more time to fabricate stuff like this, than buying a pre-made panel to fit.
  12. You know there's a whole colour spectrum out there right? 920 Safari Gold 907 Green 918 Kalahari Tan I'm jealous.
  13. No not at all, I'm just cynical when they have corporately sponsored restorations. I think it may have a bit of a Fast N Furious build quality to it / restomod feel to it and I much prefer period correct builds myself. Which I doubt we will get with this build. But looking forward to seeing what they do. Just seen too many automotive programs do horrible horrible things.
  14. You need special powers to move it . I also edited the thread title to help clarify the car isn't for sale anymore.
  15. Funny how in such a short segment, he says get a 71 / 72 ignoring the 69 / 70 build cars. Which are arguably the most collectible. Then it lists prices in Japan of a "Datsun 240z" when there was no such thing. So what is that monetary figure applied to? When he says 50 grand what currency is he talking about? USD, AUD? I assume USD because it was probably filmed a while ago. They have already exceeded that figure anyway, depending on the market and specification of car. If you consider HS30-H and PS30 etc.. then they totally eclipse that figure anyway.. Good that they (S30z's) are getting more and more recognition but calling it the most beautiful Japanese car (and I would somewhat agree in my biased view) ignores other great shapes like the Toyota 2000GT the FD RX-7 (my opinion), NSX, R32 GTR etc..
  16. So I can move this from the for sale section to the members project section?
  17. Check out the ACN listed here: https://creditorwatch.com.au/credit/profile/98602862199/EDWARD-LEES-IMPORTS-PTY-LTD http://abncheck.com.au/abn/98602862199 Compared with the number on the liquidation notice. 18. Indi welcome, looks like you managed to quote something but not reply to it?
  19. I think he's already done it, now called Edward Lee's Imports not Edward Lee's Japanese Auto Center.
  20. http://www.classiccarshow.com/ Doesn't look like they have covered a 240z yet.
  21. Looks like an English program. http://www.sbs.com.au/ondemand/video/506325059938/the-classic-car-show Is it in an upcoming version or has it already aired?
  22. I laughed at the photo of him in a white shirt after removing the engine, I thought hmmm wish my clothes would stay that clean.
  23. Just the block itself or do you want the crank + rods etc..? I might have a spare but I'm in Sydney..Freight will be the killer.
  24. No Falcon Left Behind. A little slow and awkward but good to see Canadian's (I think by accent) fixing up an old Aussie V8.
  25. So whilst at lunch I was reading this article on my phone. http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2013/03/junkyard-find-1973-datsun-240z/ and whilst going through the comments I saw this comment... Which I thought was a pretty well written story and it got me thinking about what memories I might have of my S30z's later on in life. What will be the ones that stick out for me? So I thought I'd start a thread about what your favorite memory in your Z is and if you care to elaborate on why? FYI: The junkyard special ended up being picked clean by junkyard vultures. http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2013/04/picked-clean-if-you-want-240z-parts-you-need-to-work-fast/ A shame because anywhere else in the world and that would have been a car that got saved..
