  1. Someone found a pair of 4.5j ones off a roadster recently his name was Sash. They were date stamped 68. Are they the ones you got?
  2. Agree Peter the number are lowered than I expected for both, but if the Early Girl Bingo thread is anything to go by, most of the cars that still exist are not on the road, rather in the middle or restoration, in storage, used for racing or last seen as a shell for sale. The number of road registered cars is very small. Since I rarely see these cars on the road anymore I guess it makes sense.
  3. Disclaimer: I've not seen the car in person myself. However if it's as good as it represents as then I don't have a problem with the price. The data we have been digging out around numbers of these cars left in Australia, the devaluation of the AUD relative to USD, GBP and Euro, JPY etc.. means that our cars have historically been underpriced in a global context (my opinion here). RHD examples are far more rare than LHD and even if you import a US model S30z you still have to pay shipping, import duties, etc.. Then there is the option to convert to RHD (you don't have to, but it seems many are not into the idea of a LHD car over here). Most 240z's were well loved and used, but not really cherished by their owners so many of them have had bad repairs over the years and were used up in racing etc.. They were also ignored for many years by the Aussie muscle car loving fraternity. In the past 10 years their popularity has increased and this in turn is driving prices up (in part also with a demographic shift). Limited supply means even rust buckets are fetching good prices now. When you factor in options for similar cars of similar vintage and performance the S30z still represents good value. Original examples (non restored) with genuine patina don't come up often, it's a once in a blue moon event. With regard to the yellow car, you've seen how it looks after dipping. That is 1 of the cleanest shells out there. It's always best to start with the best car possible. A car like the white 1 here will save someone a lot of aggravation in restoration time, money and skill. In 10 years time it will be viewed as a good investment (in my opinion).
  4. It is a UK spec 73 240z, the lower valance is correct.
  5. Trust me when I say this, but I really do have enough S30z's. So I'm out, even if I could get it past the committee of sensible purchases.
  6. The guy I bought them off (there is a thread here somewhere) said he bought them from Nissan and so I assumed they were the OEM type. Not sure if Nissan ever sold these non-chrome trim ring versions or not? It's quite possible I suppose.
  7. So this has been keeping you quiet lately? Interesting data I'll consume it in more detail later , but from a glance there is 20 1970 model 240z's on the road across the country, is that about right? It certainly would explain why I never seen any on the road these days!
  8. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/user/100182-nat0-240-chevz/ Thread on rails here: http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/9634-240z-260z-replacement-engine-bay-floor-rails-now-available-sa/
  9. http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/17735-hs30-00379-on-ebayau-for-1/ HS30 00379 - It was listed on eBay as a shell, I don't recall what it looked like now. Wondering if Mr C has photos of her? *Edit yes he does. http://www.wazregister.com/index.php?title=viewcar&car=HS30-379
  10. Andrew you might also want to contact Nato in South Australia to see if he has any surplus from the last run or if he intends to produce anymore. In my opinion it will always work out cheaper to buy locally made stuff and it supports our local economy but sometimes stuff isn't available locally like the rear tail light panel and so that's when I have to opt to import. Let us know how to you with Nato as I suspect others probably want front rails also.
  11. Weird, in my FD RX-7 1 day I was driving and I noticed smoke come out from the dashboard I pulled over right away as I thought it was on fire. I realised pretty quick it was the head unit in the car. After pulling it out I couldn't figure out how in the heck it was being grounded. I found the antenna cable slightly melted. So I wired in a ground on a new head unit (same brand and plug) and haven't had an issue since then. So this is all new to me.
  12. Photos are not a requirement but we are all Z-car voyeurs and like to have a sticky beak from time to time. Looks like a good start and pretty original and not messed about with too much - always a good thing. Was this car on Gumtree recently?
  13. I see you have left breadcrumbs around the Internet already. http://japanesenostalgiccar.com/forum/forum/community/general-discussion-jnc-news-faq/16563-information-about-checkman-steering-wheels Current auction here: http://yahoo.aleado.com/lot?auctionID=m115388179
  14. Alan what does the CHECKMAN steering wheel look like? By the way should it all be capitalised? Just saw this. http://auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/t456721995 I'm not sure if this is similar?
  15. Yeah I love the colour combo also. You better keep that chant up, because if you stop you'll be in trouble haha.
  16. I am not sure, I just looked at it and can see a positive power plug, but no negative earth? I assume maybe that goes through the antenna? Definitely odd... I've never seen a 240z without an aftermarket radio already installed so I'm not sure what the correct loom plug looks like, I can only assume they were all lobbed off or modified over the years. So I can't be 100% certain. I also noticed the tuning mechanism isn't moving when I turn the knobs, not sure what's the cause maybe I'm not using it right?
  17. So I am posting this with some regret, this was perfect before I put it in my luggage and came back from the US. However after several flights around the US without issue on my return leg from LA -> Sydney my bag must have been buried deep down and the weight must have caused issues and cracked the plastic trim surround on it (right hand side). I was so annoyed! It survived 40 odd years and got damaged with me. I should have removed the face and kept it in my carry on. Lesson learned the hard way. The crack extends up to the tune / antenna switch - You can see in the photos. Good news is that the transparent piece in the middle with the radio bands is good and that will save you money if you order a replacement face here: http://www.240zrubberparts.com/apps/webstore/ http://www.240zrubberparts.com/apps/webstore/products/show/4543049 It is missing Antenna switch, but these are much easier to come across and cheaper than the earlier Hitachi Unit switch (vertical). You can get a new faceplate or try and repair this 1. Anyway photos do the talking. Sold as is where is, non tested unit. I was originally going to install it in my 72 240z, but decided to keep my car AU market spec and will go AM radio. Price: $300 AU Crack from rear.
  18. Hi Guys, A while back I bought these because I thought they were to suit the OEM chrome trim ring headlight covers, but after receiving them I don't think they are. I believe they are similar to the ones MSA in the US sells. Problem is, only 1 gasket (rubber) and no mounting hardware / fasteners. There is very light scratches on them which could probably be plastic polished out. Would probably suit someone who has had a pair and cracked 1 side and needs replacement. Photos below, dusty from storage. Price: $50 for the pair. + postage.
  19. If you need front frame rails have a look here: http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/14290-rust-repair-sections-group-buy/ Although at this stage interest seems a bit weak.
  20. Thread must have photos
  21. Colby in the US they had an air pump pretty early on, 71 I think. In Australia it was the introduction of the 260z that saw that stuff added. It's true that most shops won't know the difference if everything looks correctly plumbed. Hence good idea to use standard air boxes etc..
  22. Yeah that's the difference between a flogged and worn out 240z shell and a good shell. I am not sure if I missed it, but after dipping the car obviously bare metal is exposed. Not just on the outside but inside also where you can't see the metal (say behind quarter panels) and inside frame rails etc.. Will the car be dipped in a rust proofing solution to address this? Since these cars rust from the inside out I'm curious what your approach will be? I've seen wands you can get to spray rust proofing into gaps and hard to reach areas, Eastwoods in the US sell them. http://www.eastwood.com/rustproofing-and-undercoating-system.html Not sure if you have something similar in mind? By the way was the rocker panel bogged up? I'm not surprised you found some rust there, all S30z's no matter how good seem to go in that area.
  23. I wasn't I've asked to join the group.
  24. Been here and done it before. Read this.. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/13419-best-spent-money-on-an-l6/ I would agree with Alan 4.4 ratio diff would wake her up.
  25. Thanks will do.
