  1. I know what you're saying, but to a collector it's an Apples and Oranges comparison. I honestly don't think $18k goes as far most might think it does when restoring a car like this. Also the old saying is, it's only original once. To a serious collector these things matter.
  2. RE: Polish, good to know... I won't attempt that then! I will ask my contact in the US to find a near mint glass if he can and let me know if he does...
  3. I'm guessing you had a look at the rear throttle plate area / butterfly? That will have a number on it indicating diameter of them. Or of course you could measure them to get diameter also. The pair of 40/44's I have are from a Toyota also, or were being used on 1. I got both sets for a bargain price. I usually wouldn't bother with a pair because tracking down another carb is a pain, but these were so cheap I couldn't let them go. I have had someone in the US offer me a single carb, price was a little on the high side but so far it's the only lead I have. Otherwise I'll have to buy 2 more pairs of 44's to make 2 sets of 3.
  4. I guess we can post the links now. The house. http://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-vic-benalla-123996334 And contents... http://www.alpa.net.au/ViewClearingSales/?ClearingSaleID=1181# Healey club is where I found it actually. http://www.ahsdc.org/Page/Page.aspx?Page_Id=120 http://www.ahsdc.org/Page/Download.aspx?c=1239 PDF: http://www.ahsdc.org/Files/Benalla_Barn_Find_Auction_December_2016-1.pdf I'm sorry to hear it mate, I was really hoping you'd get it. What did you bid up to? Did you bid at all? Honestly when I saw it I knew it couldn't go cheap, I think the fact it was so hard to find would have worked in your favour and limited competition. I guess not. But alas there will be another...there always is.. Christmas is a good time of year to find an S30Z, seems people offload projects around that time. Year after year. In some ways it was still a bargain compared with this car.. http://japanesenostalgiccar.com/datsun-280z-2-plus-2-sold-for-45000-at-auction/ Next time if you want an estimate of value send me a PM and I'll be happy to try and help based on my knowledge. But even I was a bit off. Always hard to pin a value based on photos. When you see something in person you can get a much better sense of it's value. It was a fantastic 2+2, great colour. Sorry I know it doesn't help lol.. I can't recall when I last saw a 2+2 in this country with the original wheels and hubcaps though!
  5. I haven't used the DIY method on mine. Actually it's in Melbourne now I'm going to get it re-skinned professionally and ship it to California for a Fairlady Z owner. Finding a RHD dashboard is pretty hard over there and re-skinning is ultra expensive. So I'm helping him out, he's my source of hard to find early S30Z parts. So it's only fair.
  6. Can you post a photo of them? I have a pair of 40mm Mikuni Type R carbs. This is what they look like. I was looking to sell them, but obviously a set of Triples would have more appeal...or I might keep them for a pretty stock L24 motor in future.
  7. I think you are correct on that 1. http://www.zhome.com/History/ZColorGallary/
  8. Dashboard is looking really good!
  9. Pretty sure someone was selling reproductions of these... http://datsunspirit.com/products-page/ but their site is down..
  10. I haven't posted the link yet, I'll leave it out. . But in reality posting that image is already too much of a clue if you know how to Google . It's a beautiful colour 903 Dark Blue. Low VIN # GRS30 too!
  11. Ok so I found the link to the pdf.. This car port looking familiar?
  12. Well I Googled and couldn't find anything... Got me puzzled... Maybe that's a good thing though?
  13. The reason for my appraisal is as follows: 1. Original owner car. 2. Looks accident free and from the photos rust free. Alignment of panels looks good. 3. Could be original paint, engine bay matches. My guess is clean the car up and detail it and it would look a million times better than those photos suggest. 4. Original wheels TOPY steel wheels + hubcaps. I think that means it's a 74/75 model as most 260z's by now have the factory alloys you see everywhere. This suggests the car hasn't been messed about with. 5. Original SU carbs and ancillaries, getting harder to find. Most binned these bits in favour of 240z SU's. 6. Matching Engine no. 7. Interior / upholstery looks good and rip free. 2+2 interior bits are getting much harder to find now. 8. Probably original radio. 9. It's basically a time capsule... Therefore it has a lot going for it, couple that with the surge in values of S30Z's lately, the relatively rarity of finding any good 2+2's left and this car has proper collector appeal. I say bank on $15-$20k and be happy if you get it lower.. It seems unlikely though. A 240z in this shape would be worth $50k all day every day. 2+2 values are about half.
  14. Wow, that looks like a pretty original example. Even has the TOPY wheels and caps! 260z fender badges are rare now too! I see quite a bit of value in this provided the body is solid. Not sure if it starts but I'd bank on spending between $15-$20k.
  15. Just on this topic I noticed on Classiczcars.com this conversation came up recently. http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/56145-genuine-datsun-240z-jdmeuro-spoiler/ http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/39112-option-genuine-rear-spoiler/ Kats provided some really good examples of the early style spoiler with the mounting points etc..
  16. Can't last longer than a day at that price.
  17. I think 1600's are a bit cheaper. But even so getting harder to find. I've never owned 1 though so hard to compare. A couple of members here might be able to chime in though!
  18. Dad is right, don't listen to him. I didn't lol...(well mum really). It's going to be hard to find an "honest" S30Z for 12k that meets your criteria. By this stage most are projects. If you buy a 45+ year old car you're going to have to be willing to work on it or have deep pockets for repair work. But that's half the fun and how most of us here got started. Of course these cars were a lot cheaper 10-15-20 years ago.
  19. S31 head unit. http://page10.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/m181450784 Ghetto antenna switch.
  20. That's my biggest fear, bending it.
  21. Looks frightening quick to me.
  22. Sad times, looks like a great car.
  23. Welcome interested to see more of your project.
  24. I tend to agree with Peter space them out if possible. A long weekend at the end of summer? I think a winter meet may put people off? Nothing happens all year then you have 3-4 events at a busy time of year for a lot of folks.
