  1. From Downunder Datsun's page. https://www.facebook.com/groups/downunderdatsuns/?fref=nf Out somewhere near Lismore... Dying a slow death.. Looks like an HS30 shell too! Not sure if originally some kind of Safari Gold colour?
  2. HS30 01039 - Vince's 1971 240z.
  3. HS30 00091 Sister car to the recently sold HS30 00092 that went to Singapore and was sold by Curtis. Looks like both were originally 905 Red cars. If you search for this VIN # you'll find quite a few references to it, looks like 2003 was when it was listed in the trading post. Then in 2006 someone might have bought it off the new owner and the leads go quiet after that. Good to see a photo of it all the same.
  4. Yes I have a contact in SFO that has helped me with several parts. He has a few vertical defrost glass, the only problem is shipping and making sure they don't get broken. I am trying to get him to put together an inventory of sorts with all the panels he has etc.. Topy wheels etc.. I'm looking to do a bulk import (container) at some point. Since roof turrets, 1/4 panels, doors, bonnets are all in demand I'm sure. Not to mention original steel wheels. If we know exactly what part no's to look for when it comes to this glass I'm sure he can find it. By the way how bad are the marks in your existing vertical defrost glass? Sure they can't be polished out? I believe Alan (HS30-H) knows the workshop and their owners. So if you don't get a reply maybe ask him to help out?
  5. Yes, as I mentioned above properly restored S30Z's are extremely rare and the owners who have invested in doing it right tend to hang onto them. SpecialP3 is a good example, that car is restored to a very high level and has been in the same hands for many years. $18k USD might buy you a relatively tidy 240z in the US (although I think that's less and less likely from what I'm seeing it's now $25k+). But keep in mind we have a much smaller percentage of cars in Australia and RHD vehicles are much much rarer now. I'll still drive mine, no matter the value!
  6. About 12 to 24 months ago. The high end of 240z values quoted by Hagerty (and their values are not always reflective of what's going on in the S30Z market), were around $35,000 USD for a top car. https://www.hagerty.com/apps/valuationtools/1970-Datsun-240Z Now look at the price difference...$60-$65k USD is being quoted. Keep in mind North American market cars are generally the cheapest going, also the S30Z market is bigger than just the "Datsun 240z" you have to remember the Nissan PS30, PS30-SB, HS30-H, S30 (Z-S and Z-L) models also. In Japan many cars are selling well above the Hagerty price point already. I find it kind of odd that they don't list the other Nissan models also. Actually If I'm going to nit pick, it's odd they don't list any early rotary coupe's either (apart from the RX-7)... but that's American Auction Houses for you! Bottom line, buy 1 now.
  7. I recently helped someone in California locate a 180B SSS for import. They are not easy to find...
  8. In my opinion don't wait for a car to come to market. Track known cars down ask around see if anyone is considering selling and try and beat the car to market. Make an offer on the car and see if you can do a deal before it becomes public. That's the best way to secure a car. Waiting for it to pop up on a website is already too late. Either that or consider importing LHD.
  9. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/262720932476 US $150.00 Jeco clock to suit Honda Civic, but could potentially be useful in a Datsun Roadster..
  10. I agree, I think $100k S30Z's are not far away from the norm.
  11. That bonnet is sold, I went to look at the other 2 tonight from same seller. Really nice guy who doesn't have the heart to throw something out which may be of use to another person. However the white bonnet is a bog monster I couldn't see much of it being salvageable to be honest it's badly bent. The Red bonnet was rough but could be saved with enough skill the rear half was excellent the front not so much. Although it looks not bad in photos it's also pretty bent. You want to be a lot more skilled than I to fix either of them...
  12. The S30z has always been a popular car, now 45+ years later not many good ones are left. Yet at the same time you see these cars featured in film, tv programs, video games, and more recently a lot of spot light has been thrown on them through the FuguZ and Magnus Walker along with that whole scene, then you have Speedhunters which has massive reach in the online community for nostalgic cars. S30Z's are simple fun cars to work on with a timeless design and were in many ways very advanced for that period. Especially when you consider a lot of the engineering and tooling that went into making these cars. Especially at the price point they were able to do it too! I love my S30z's more today than I did 18 years ago when I got my first 240z. A lot of cars come and go, and trends along with them, but the S30z is a very special car, it is certainly the exception to find a previous owner who has only negative things to say about them. When you compare to similar era air-cooled 911s these are often half or 1/4 the price. Of course not many are as well restored either. It is rare to find high quality restored S30Z's. Demand is high and supply is low. Prices are up and in my opinion will remain that way for a long time. What car comes close to the S30z in terms of fun, affordable spares still available and return on investment? I'm still bullish on 240z/260z (s30z) values and expect more growth over the next couple of years.
  13. Congratulations, I tried to buy a place in Reservoir but got outbid at auction. It would have been perfect. Oh well..be interested to hear how things go.
  14. No updates in here for a while... I splurged a bit... decided if I was going to build an entire engine then I might as well go Triples and nothing better than Solex / Mikuni's on an L-series engine. I got a pair of 44's (Type 5) and picked up a pair of 40's (Type R) at the same time for a bargain basement price, guy in WA sold them nice and cheap with a bunch of jets, floats, velocity stacks, filters and misc bits and bobs (rebuild gaskets) etc.. Only problem is I need to track down a third carb now to make a matching set of Triples... got a few leads on that though! I already had a set of Triple 44s I bought many years ago, but they were always meant to go on the 72 240z, so I decided to source these as an additional set. I'm looking forward to learning about how to set them up and tune them.
  15. For the man/woman who already has the Bob Sharp Valve cover. You can now add a Paul Newman Jacket. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Paul-Newmans-personal-Datsun-Racing-Jacket-/282253585323 Yours for only $29,000 USD
  16. Makes you wonder doesn't it? Reminds me of a quote "If I wanted a pig, I'd rattle a bucket."
  17. HS30 in Japan. http://page9.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/k232129080 HS30 100594? Current bid: 80,000 yen (AU$1,042.40) 6 days to go.
  18. My guess was Malaysia, but it's just a guess..*Edit I knew I had seen this car before somewhere! http://www.carlist.my/used-cars/3112466/1979-datsun-240z-2-0/ Price: RM 120,000. ~$36,801.38 Australian Dollars at today's rate.
  19. Generally speaking a continuation of the model is only a good thing for the classics. Look at the Corvette's and Skyline's as 2 examples.
  20. I tend to agree with Curtis, I don't see anything slowing down demand at the moment. Maybe a rise in Interest rates, a pop of the Aussie property bubble or some other global economic melt down. But right now in the short term I don't see anything to 'correct' prices. Brexit has perhaps put the brakes on purchase from UK buyers since the GBP has taken a beating, but there is parts of Asia where demand for such cars is still strong. It's a global market now, if we like it or not. US market HLS30's are starting to gain traction value wise and that's making the proposition of a North American import less and less viable.
  21. Anyone see this car? http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/lonsdale/cars-vans-utes/1970-datsun-240z/1129483056 Wonder what country it's currently in? Can anyone tell?
  22. Black go fast sills . Pretty sure that car was on the market about 6-12 months ago. If you look back through this thread it should be there.
  23. I thought a few here might appreciate the read here. http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/a25816/lost-art-the-weber-sidedraft-carburetor/
  24. Yes that's what I've seen on multiple S30Z's.
  25. Jason if you want to sell another pair of 44 Type 5s can you PM me a price? I can always try and find another pair after that to make 2 sets of 3.
