Nice car, I think European spec HLS30's are very close to Australian delivered HS30's. I would be interested in any more details around the original specification of your car if you can share those details? I believe that French market cars didn't have the engine number stamped on the ID plate. (see below photo - from this thread). However AU markets like North American market cars did have the engine ID on this plate. Perhaps not a requirement in France at that time?

Amar what you're after is 1973 specification indicators to suit an AU market 240z. I believe they may have been used in France / Europe also. Problem is they are very rare to find now and I only recently saw a set for sale on eBay Australia. But very rare to find. Good luck.

Nissan Kgc10 'hakosuka' Value In Australia

To get a car inspected in Japan, try getting in contact with Kristian Appelt at Iron Chef imports. http://www.ironchefimports.com/ He helped me import my FD RX-7 (from Europe) and whilst I can't vouch for his body work inspection skills he knows the process very well and may have contacts to help with inspection of vehicles you're interested in. -
Craig I'm always looking for spares. Can you PM me a price?

Cars For Sale (3rd Party Sites) Ebay, Carsales etc..

I knew that car would clean up well. It does look mint. They removed the dust though so no longer a genuine barn find. It also says "It is a genuine one owner vehicle from new" but how can that be if it's changed ownership recently? Wouldn't that make it a 2 owner vehicle now? -

Basically what Jason said above, you're looking at 70k for a clean example and then once you've imported it pray you don't discover the bad rust repairs done to many of them. Remember they were once cheap cars. Honestly if looking for a very good example that isn't badly botched in it's previous life. I'd almost bank on a figure closer to 80-100k...depending on what you wanted done to it and at what level. Many will think I'm mad, but honestly... that's what it costs for a good example. Quite a few for sale here in Japan. http://www.goo-net-exchange.com/php/search/summary.php?maker_cd=1015&car_cd=10151010&katashiki=KGC10 http://www.goo-net-exchange.com/php/search/summary.php?maker_cd=1015&car_cd=10151010&katashiki=KPGC10 http://www.goo-net-exchange.com/php/search/summary.php?maker_cd=1015&car_cd=10151010&katashiki=C10 -

It's pretty awesome though, time capsule car. Imagine if that was an S30Z stored in like new condition all these years. Price might be a bit high considering these haven't taken off yet. But maybe in 10-15 years it will be a $250,000 car? Hard to know what the future holds. -
Don't get me wrong a hole in the console would send me nuts after a while. I'd probably pay the piper also, but I just like to throw a bit of dirt over the fence from time to time. I get plenty my way at times.

http://page2.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/b240460022 Type 2 Mikuni 44's. Presented as NOS. Not sure if they are any different to other Type 2 carbs or not? Google Translate: -
I have to crank mine for a while also (although I think it's also the choke on the SUs), so I was looking into a rebuild kit for the original pump. Found this thread. http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/50679-rebuilding-the-nikki-fuel-pump/ Problem is my fuel pump says Atsugi not "Nikki" so I'm not sure if the components are the same. My guess is that they are.

I can't access it, I applied to the group but still not approved. Is it an ex-time attack machine in South Australia?

Go look at it, I put a link to a previous discussion a couple of months back where someone in Victoria was looking for help inspecting it. I said I would go but the owner was cagey and didn't want folks inspecting it or taking photos. He/she also refused to put up an asking price. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/15101-1974-datsun-260z-for-sale/ -

MIKUNI SOLEX 36 mm carbs. Often fitted to A-series engines. Likely to be found fitted to vehicles like Datsun B10, B310, 510 or Toyota TE27, KP61 etc..

I have a rebuild kit for the SUs but I plan to go with Triple Mikuni's anyway.

Datsun 240Z Engineering Development By Hitoshi Uemura

Just a couple of chapters in I've learnt a few interesting things. 1. The Porsche 911 was a car they wanted to emulate in many ways. I've always thought about their similarities but glad to read it from the horses mouth so to speak. 2. L20A was original consideration for displacement. (also considered a lower spec 4 cylinder with twin SUs) 3. Pretty sure AU market cars didn't get defrost because we didn't have same cold weather extreme's as North America. This is somewhat discussed in the book as a weakness of the Roadsters driving through the Rocky Mountains. 4. The S20 motor was put in the S30Z because they wanted their pinnacle piece available to a Sports Car (not just the Skyline). It was said to be a superior power plant to the Yamaha Twin Cam in the Toyota 2000GT. 5. Interesting to learn more about design limitations etc.. which influenced overall design. Considering the lack of images it's quite an interesting read and certainly gives me new perspectives on these great cars. -
I agree it sounds more like a cold start, choke issue. If it starts fine when warm. Gareth what did you use to lubricate them? WD40?

Add the heat shield back in, it's not doing you any favours not having it.
-
Don't see why they couldn't. But sure ask them first.

It's quite the challenge to capture the finish of Chrome with a camera, but hopefully these photos give you some idea.

Sounds about right, when I had my cylinder head reconditioned at Les Collins racing, we just had the OE rockers resurfaced. Seems they are superior to anything offered aftermarket.
-
Mick do you have an L28 block in your 240z? I seem to recall others having issues with what is deemed "light modification". You're correct about the log book, I checked mine for my 72 240z, I used it 3 times so far in 2016. Granted we live in different states so maybe that's not so bad..
