  1. It's listed as a 72 but has the early metal fan and center console. I'd guess it's a 71 or late 71. Would be good to know it's number. I'm guessing it's this car? HS30 - 01524 - which makes it a later 71 model. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/15684-240z-with-l20a-engine/
  2. What year's do you have Scott?
  3. All good actually I just bit the bullet and bought these. http://www.ebay.com/itm/222367624892 Price was reasonable and so was shipping.. I will still have a go at doing it myself on the spare set (since I have more than 1 S30Z ).
  4. No problem George, as I say I want to cut louvers in them like this: http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/7BSA03/50-1451 I am fairly sure I won't mess it up, but it's always good to do a test piece first. I know of other places I can get them, so no big deal.
  5. I got a set of 72+ hubcaps (Z center) in rough shape. I might try importing a set of 4 first and see how that goes and costs etc.. then I'll be in a better position to say exact prices.
  6. Hey George, I am interested in the inspection lids as I want to practice making them vented using a tool at Tafe. I've got a spare set already but they are in good shape. These look like good ones to practice on first. I still have a Koito lamp from Alan i have to give you. Perhaps I could come around at some point and see #19 and deliver the parts + collect the lids?
  7. Definitely not listed anymore... Anyone get photos? Cached link is no good. http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:4pnfL-omzJwJ:www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/bendigo/cars-vans-utes/datsun-coupe/1135091831+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=au
  8. Nope I didn't buy it.
  9. The middle picture for the console is for the parker lamps, not a hazard switch. Left photo is the early hazard switch, middle photo is defogger + parker lamps (Japanese market) and the right photo is the on off switch decal that would sit next to the switch to indicate direction for on and off. RHD dashboards don't appear to have the indentation for that decal/sticker.
  10. Yeah externally oiled ones the spray bar breaks off at the ends, had that problem in my 73 240z. Hence I went internally oiled on my E31. Sadly I think I turfed my A grind cam. I might try look for it but think it went with a bunch of stuff I threw out.
  11. Hey Ash, It should be stamped into the face of the rim. I think I looked at your 1 and it was from a 260z (75/76) I think. You can just see this 1 says 69 after the TOPY.
  12. Photos are from here.. http://bringatrailer.com/2014/06/04/46k-miles-all-stock-1972-datsun-240z/
  13. According to Facebookie it's already sold. https://www.facebook.com/groups/386021341481608/permalink/1200904289993305/?comment_id=1200927506657650&reply_comment_id=1200927749990959&notif_t=group_comment&notif_id=1483750287042328 So if it was the deal it appears to be, it will be flipped within a month for $25k USD + is my guess.
  14. Hi Folks. I may be doing a bulk shipment of Topy steel wheels from the US. Current inventory of date stamps looks like this. 1970 = 3* 1971 = 1 1972 = 2 1973 = 7 1974 = 2 1975 = 5 1976 = 0 1977 = 0 1978 = 3 *I'll probably keep the 1970 date stamp wheels for my own car and maybe the 1971 until I find another 70. I may be able to find some 1969 date stamped TOPYs off a Datsun Roadster (with the little tabs for the caps which can be removed) and are 14x4.5j wide. I would guesstimate that a set of 4 would cost around $1,200 - $1,500 each. Factoring in shipping costs + import duties on this end etc.. This may or may not include powder coating them to appear as new. To be honest it's difficult to quote a final price until I've done this at least once. So this price might be on the higher side, as I'd rather over quote than under if that makes sense? If you're interested just reply to the thread or send me a PM. As you know these are almost impossible to find locally.
  15. I've seen those photos before, don't believe it. It looks like a scam to me.
  16. I think you're getting ahead of yourself (not that we haven't fallen victim to this ourselves in the past) and I'd worry about getting the car first and when it arrives seeing if you got what you thought you were getting? Then I'd look at engine options and what you want to do.
  17. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Datsun-260Z-Mesh-Grill-/162346828483?_trksid=p2141725.m3641.l6368 Nice looking reproduction Fairlady mesh grille.
  18. http://www.driving.co.uk/news/forget-property-classic-cars-are-proving-the-best-investment-for-smart-savers/ Translation: It's different this time.
  19. If folks like you didn't buy them back then Peter and just did the sensible thing we wouldn't have these cars around to enjoy now. If I didn't spend 7-8 years living and working in Europe I'd probably have bought a house before prices went thermonuclear in Australia. But... I don't for a second regret living abroad or doing the travel I did. Given the same circumstances and knowing the situation I'd end up in, I'd do it all again. In the long run we're all dead - John Maynard Keynes.
  20. Shame about houses then hey?
  21. If the average Australian wage today is somewhere in the $50k-$70k range. http://www.news.com.au/finance/work/careers/how-does-your-salary-stack-up-against-the-rest-of-australia/news-story/72b44644b531ad10bc1a8051f016ac6c Then that's like buying a 370z today. Although the 370z is almost cheaper in today's money.
  22. Yeah tail lamps have solid amber section no white reverse if I recall. Odd..
  23. Vented bonnet was 76-78 change, earlier ones were solid. Note this car has hubcaps and steelies. The alloys came later.
  24. My guess is 28-32k. I know a method to find out too, but it's a bit sneaky LOL..
  25. Very transparent with all charges and up front about the process. Nothing was hidden or buried. I was advised on all the headaches if I decided to do it myself and as a result I was happy to pay their fee for their expertise to avoid getting caught in bureaucratic red tape. I would use them again if I was to import a car which is usually a good indication of how things went I'd say. They will give you a quote in advance with a breakdown of all expenses, most are not their fee's. So you'll see where all the money goes... Basically Australian import duties are a rip off.. But not their fault for that. So I would come up with a price range you're looking at then ask them for a quote based on that price range if you imported said vehicle. You may adjust your budget after that. Importing a car is a bit like buying a block of land and building on it (instead of just buying a block with a house on it), everyone always has a figure in mind as to the costs which is a gross underestimate of the actual cost when all is said and done. Since there is always going to be a surprise along the way. If you can find a local example for sale it's almost always going to work out better, the problem is there is only a handful of these cars in the country and most who own them probably don't want to sell them anytime soon.
