BenZed Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 New product I just got in, unlike most weld-on coilover sleeve kits on the market these come with springs AND helper springs AND spanners. Everything you see in the pic is one set, which is $299. Two pairs for $500. The 51mm sleeves to suit 240Zs (front or back) come with a choice of 4kg or 5kg springs (224lb or 280lb). I can also supply other rates if needed. The top spring locator has a small 8mm hole so it can be drilled out to suit your struts. Other than that you should just need a few washers to make everything sit right. PM me if you want a set. Quote
Will Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 If your going to make the 55mm coil over kits put me down for the front and rear kit. Cheers Will Quote
BenZed Posted April 1, 2009 Author Posted April 1, 2009 If your going to make the 55mm coil over kits put me down for the front and rear kit. Cheers Will I will get these made in about two months. We will have to use 70mm ID springs to suit. Quote
jasonb Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 sounds good, ill probably be keen for a set when the larger ones are made:) Quote
BenZed Posted August 29, 2009 Author Posted August 29, 2009 55mm sleeve kits are now in stock to suit 260Z struts at $299 a pair. The 55mm kits use a 70mm inside diameter spring. At this stage we have only 6kg/mm in stock but we can order different rates if you need them. There is a stepped spacer between the main spring and the helper spring, which is still 65mm ID. Call 02 8677 4890 to order or PM me. Quote
C.A.R. Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 Fantastic stuff Ben! I know a lot of late model 260 guys were after a these FWIW here is the kg/mm to lbs/in conversion: 4 (kg / mm) = 223.989658 pounds / in (224lbs) 5 (kg / mm) = 279.987073 pounds / in (280lbs) 6 (kg / mm) = 335.984488 pounds / in (336lbs) 7 (kg / mm) = 391.981902 pounds / in (392lbs) 8 (kg / mm) = 447.979317 pounds / in (448lbs) Quote
BenZed Posted October 6, 2009 Author Posted October 6, 2009 Fantastic stuff Ben! I know a lot of late model 260 guys were after a these Where are they all? Quote
nizm0zed Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 got my coil over sleeves insanely fast, thanks ben. Will keep everyone updated as i do the conversion. They look good just on thier own too Quote
Toecutter Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 I also bought a set from Ben. Got them the next day and they did look nice. Great product for a great price. Sulio Quote
RB30X Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 Do they come with instructions like how far up your existing struts to cut and weld etc. Quote
nizm0zed Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 nope, no instructions. i figure that i'll measure how high up the origional perch was, then grind it off. I'll section out the 2 inches for shock travel (and use the appropriate inserts) From there, the highest setting on the sleeve when welded at the top of the strut tube should be close to standard height, obviously checked against the origional perch height. That doesnt take into account of the spring length though. Should be close enough to have more then enough adjustment. Quote
RB30X Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 Well someone be sure to throw a couple of pics up of the process so amatures can gauge whether they can do it also. Quote
C.A.R. Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 I've done it & there is a bit of stuffing around. I didn't section the strut tubes though (shudder), but you will have to run a shorter damper insert. FWIW a couple of 2inch exhaust clamps are your friends... Quote
hunterzed Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 Any chance of a couple of pics Lurch? And short of measuring my struts, which is a bit hard with me being 2000ks away from it at the moment. Will either if these kits fit my '82 model 280zx? Quote
japjag Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 Don't know about you guys, but my mouth is watering just looking at the pics. Gunna talk to the brains trust to see if this is the set-up for us.If so Ben look forward to an order for some!!! Quote
BenZed Posted October 15, 2009 Author Posted October 15, 2009 Any chance of a couple of pics Lurch? And short of measuring my struts, which is a bit hard with me being 2000ks away from it at the moment. Will either if these kits fit my '82 model 280zx? I believe 280s also have a 55mm strut tube, can anyone verify for me? Quote
limezed Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 I have just finished fitting this kit. Was fairly straight forward (after some advice from Lurch). I sectioned about 48mm from the front and 46mm from the rear struts, used the old front shocks on the rear and got some shorter fronts from a toyota celica. The feel is a bit soft (about as firm as the original set up), not sure if this is the spring rate or the shocks. Also a larger sway bar might tighten it up a bit. I believe the kit came with 4mm/kg rear and 5mm/kg front, so maybe a 6mm/kg front set and swap the 5mm/kg to the rear would feel better. yes the 2" exhaust clamps help a lot, but remember that the car will drop about 10mm or so once the car has been driven a bit. Quote
C.A.R. Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 The 6kg/mm in the rear & 5kg/mm front feels great in the Zed - nice & firm without being harsh. Just make sure you upgrade to a shorter damper insert with better rebound control Quote
RB30X Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 I have just finished fitting this kit. Was fairly straight forward PICS????? Quote
hunterzed Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 Yeah. All these kits fitted but no pics. ??? Quote
chartoo Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 Maybe someone could make a sticky of this process. I could really use the help when i get one of these kits in the future Quote
C.A.R. Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 What do you guys need pics FOR, exactly? It's not like you'll get any usefull info from just photos. In any case, I'll take some pics of the conversion on Sulio's Zed Sat. arvo if I get a chance... I'll try to add some more usefull info when I do John's (Sirpant) struts. Quote
hunterzed Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 Thanks Lurch. Pictures speak a thousand words and a thousand languages. The explanations have been fairly criptic so far. We know you have to do a bit of cutting and a bit of welding and a couple of 2" exhaust clamps but thats about it. For those of us that haven't done this kind of thing before it helps to have a pic to say that what we've done looks like the pic.........or doesn't. Quote
RB30X Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 Exactly. I'd like to know how much I could do myself and at which stage I take them into an engineering shop to have them 'professionally welded' before I finish the rest off. No one has really shown any pics of there cars stance after the install either. I want to know how much travel in ride height is avaiable too. I'd like to see one 'dropped on its guts' if you know what I mean. I'm pretty sure once a heap of photos pop up Ben will be getting a lot more orders. Quote
limezed Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 I'll take some photos today, then post them along with the before's and the coils as they were done. You can drop the car as much as you like with this kit. There is a good 100mm of adjustment. Over here we are limited to 100mm of clearance from the road to the lowest part of the chasis, that is where i have set mine to, but there is plenty of travel left for track days. Actually.... I'll have to figure out how to post photos first. Sorry just a dumb Kiwi, we're not use to these damn fangiled computer thingees. Quote
