NZeder Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 While in Paris on business, what is one to do in winter in Paris, of cause walk into the Toyota shop on Champs-Elysées and see a 2000GT in the flesh for the first time in your life....how cool was that. OK here are some pics quickly. I will host and post more when back in NZ as I am still here in France for another week of work. Cheers Mike Quote
gilltech Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Road testers at the time dubbed it "Japan's first supercar". 1967-70, just 337 I think it was produced. Awesome to see one in the flesh Mike! I've heard that there used to be about a dozen or so in Australia, but all have by now been sold to overseas collectors. I think they command around 400 grand these days. Looking forward to seeing more photos. Quote
luvemfast Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Thy overhead shot is dead sexxy! Never seen a pic from that angle. Quote
dat2kman Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Wonder what ever became of the only one off convertible one of these that Toyota made? Quote
zzzzed Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Wonder what ever became of the only one off convertible one of these that Toyota made? There was actualy two made. One is o. Display at toyota's head office and the other is owned by a private collector http://motoringconbrio.com/2011/01/23/cinematic-cars-toyota-2000gt-in-you-only-live-twice-1967/ Quote
Moderators PB260Z Posted January 12, 2013 Moderators Posted January 12, 2013 Guys, There is at least one still in Aus. It is owned by a Toyota dealer in SA. He actually leant it to Toyota Australia for a photoshoot we did connected to the launch of the 86 last year. Just an amazing car, certainly drew a crowd whenever it was on site at work and not locked away. Cheers PB Quote
NZeder Posted January 12, 2013 Author Posted January 12, 2013 according to the blurb with the car the 2 convertibles were made for the James Bond film and these were made from the prototypes so making them extra special Quote
dat240z Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 according to the blurb with the car the 2 convertibles were made for the James Bond film and these were made from the prototypes so making them extra special Correct, before Bond had his Aston run with cars, each movie featured a different make and manufacturerer. The directors chose the 2000gt for obvious reasons - beautiful, rare, sexy. But becasue Shaun Connery is a big lad, he couldnt fit in the car to film the scenes. Instead Toyota took the cars back and two weeks later, handed over some nicely modified convertibles. None actually were sold from factory. The 2000GT is one of a very select group of cars I love more than the s30 z... But in saying that, you can see similar styling cues between the two Quote
thriller Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 The s.a. 2000gt has been owned by the same family since new I hear. Insured for something like 600k...? http://www.garageofawesome.com.au/index.php/goa-rants/spotted/57-toyota-2000gt-super-rare-and-right-here Stunning car. Hard to choose between the 2000gt, S30, Miura or ... god forbid a 911.. in terms of styling methinks. Quote
dat2kman Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 And lets not overlook our own almost as rare, and also seldom seen, the Nissan Sylvia from 1966 It was a Datsun Sports Roadster chassis and drivetrain, with a slinky hardtop coupe body. Only a few hundred made it to Australia, and only a few thousand, were built. It ran a R16 engine. Not quite in the dollar league as the Toyota car above, nor as rare, but at least its a Nissan product! Quote

Here's two snaps from last year's japan day that I grabbed. I thought it was <1000 built as well? didn't get a photo of the inside but it's very very nice. cool switchboard center console and white interior Quote
Mr Camouflage Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 About the Silvia, total production is believed to be 554 cars from 1965 to 1967 of which 49 were imported to Australia. There's less of them here now, as they usually get shipped over seas when they come up for sale. I've been keeping an eye on them: http://nostalgictrio.com/blog/?sectionid=15 Not as pretty as the Toyota 2000GT, and no where near the price either. Quote
NZeder Posted January 13, 2013 Author Posted January 13, 2013 OK went down the the "Champs-Elysées" again today got a pic of a F1 Renault and some interesting Mercedes Benz of the gull wing type will post pic later Quote
Six_Shooter Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 I don't see what all the hype is over the Toyota, they are one of the fugliest sports cars I've seen. The overhead shot is the best angle I have seen, which is actually quite nice. Anytime I see one they are parked and have yet to see a video of one on a road course (They are a sports car, why no track time?). Quote
