Hello all,

 

I thought i'd post these pics of the new Toyota FT86, about to be released.. we had a training day and i got some pics.

 

It kind of old skool meet new school, very much a drivers car and designed to be slid around corners, the computer and VSC system allows it to a point.

 

It's built in a calabration between subaru and Toyota....

That's being sold as a Scion FR-S over here.

 

I kinda like the way it looks, but seems to be missing something, not sure what, just something.

 

It'll be interesting to see if it actually does anything in the market.

Well Australia will see 250 units this year, and  about 1800 in 2013

 

The prices starts at $29,990 for the GT manual and $35,990 for the GTS no prices yet on the Aero Model

 

It puts of 147kws though not much, it dosnt seem to matter, with the weight and handling its more then enough.

 

Has a six speed manual and shares the same auto box and the lexus..

 

Everything on this car has been designed for the driver, so shift light in taco, plumbed engine sound to the cabin, gear stick feel etc etc.

Not sure how many will be coming to NZ but there will be 6 different models available marketed as the GT86 by Toyota and BZR by Subaru. The first shipment is scheduled for July and 100 will hit our shores. Price is said to be between $40,000 and $50,000 NZD for the toyota Subaru is meant to be around $60,000 NZD and this is only the top model and 12 are coming by Dec of this year.

The pricing for australia was confirmed yesterday as above.

 

The subaru will be the same car but the suspension is tunned to be stiffer giving the car a hint of over steer, seem subaru designed it that way to give it a "more Subaru feel"

 

Subaru will be getting less units then Toyota, Also its a whole new engine design from the ground up. the bore and stroke is 86mm hence the name, even the exhaust tips are 86mm

I dont mind it in an unobtrusive polite sort of way, but it doesnt get my juices flowing ..also at over 6"2 Id have buckleys.

Hey chris240, you'd fit with out a problem, it's really low seating your bum is 400mm off the ground, I'm 6ft and had heaps of head room and had to pull my seat closer to the wheel.

When they designed it they had the gt2000 new to it for inspiration, when they took it to the track they took the gt with them too,

 

Where ever the ft went they took the gt.

 

 

I believe the man that designed the gt2000 also had a hand in desiging the zed.

 

Also things like the seat material is designed to hold you into the seat,

 

when you sit in the car all you can see is a flat bonnet and the top of the wheel arches, designed so that you can line up the front wheels with the apex of the corner

 

Also there's a line in the centre of the dash so you can centre the car on the track.

Albrecht Von Geortz was only really at Nissan in a consulting role for clay modelling when the 240Z was being designed, but yes there is a link with the 2000GT I guess.

Just to help other members with their translation of Mr Camouflage's reaction to the above post, the perpetuation of the Goertz myth is probably the single biggest bug in Datsun history. If you ever have a few hours of spare time go to ClassicZ and search "Goertz Myth" and you will find the matter fully dissected there. It is an interesting history if you are interested in that sort of thing. A sample thread http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/thread41766.html might give you an initial impression of where all this might end up.

 

It is not hard to see why this keeps on cropping up given that articles and books on the development of the Zed car continue to refer to the original erroneous articles for the basis of their statements. The articles continue to surface despite efforts by true Zed historians to correct the matter.

 

Bottom line is the Goertz designed NEITHER the 2000GT or our beloved Zed.

ok, I kinda confident I going to buy one these, I purchase the number plates today from the WA DVLA

 

got GTS 86 

 

It cost a little bit but will look sweet on the car, ( obviously i plan on getting the GTS version)

Just got a price list from my local dealer ( toyota) in western australia the ON ROAD prices are

 

$33'900 GT Manual

$36'400 GT AUTO

Really considering getting one of these in the metallic orange colour they have...  Anybody checked out the prices over in the eastern states... not sure if would be better to buy over there and drive home again via the great ocean road?

I got a price from Le Mans Toyota here in Melbourne. $30,550 GT MANUAL, AND $35990 FOR GTS manual on road. Paddle Shift auto is $1800 extra for either. But its sold out till Sept here in Melb.  :'(.

 

My sister works for Toyota so i will be eligible to get 21% off after stocks replenish.

Wow that is alot cheaper, almost worth taking the trip over there, that saving will well pay for the trip home, so get a free cruising holiday... will just have to pay for the car to get relicenced in W.A, but that should be easy done

 

Wonder if i can get a "Movement order" like you get when you car is yellow stickered? so i can pay for a permit to drive it to my mechanic "who happens to be in W.A" ?

You will need 3 unregistered vehicle permits. One for VIC, one for SA and one for WA. Might be better value to throw it onto the back of a truck.

There are some dirt rally boys all over these, new class for Australian Rally Champoinship in 2013, is two wheel drive only.
