From way out of left field...

My mate I am rebuilding my engine with keeps harping on about how I 'need' a supercharger on my L24.

Looking into the options I came up with these electric supercharger kits

... anyone ever tried one?? Looks like they might fit in the 'looks too good to be true, probably is' category....

Actually now I have done my actual research it seems that these things don't and can't work because the current they would need to draw in order to generate a serious amount of boost would be insane.

Still interested to hear if anyone has tried....

I loved the description of the supercharger in the first link...

"This is because when you have the engine of your Nissan 240Z Sport Deluxe upgraded with the bolt on supercharger, it torque will rise tremendously making you to drive with power. Talk of horse power, it will sporadically increase by over 80hp making you to accelerate as fast as you can."

Even funnier....

Check the motor specifications.  It's a 900 watt motor that drives the "supercharger".  Assuming that you supply about 14 volts to the motor, it is going to drag about 64 amps out of your electrical system.

Aw man, that third link is classic!!

With most Superchargers, once the installation is finished, your car is forever destined with abundant power. With the Electric Supercharger, the option of turning on and off is constantly in your hands

I'm almost half-way tempted to buy one (or, just a small 12v turbo fan for 1/10 the cost) and stick it on just to see the power DECREASE that is involved in sticking such a large restriction in the inlet manifold.....

I wonder if anyone has actually bought one? It's along the line of the Might Car Mods guys using a small air compressor and switched valve to replicate the noise of a blow-off valve in an N/A, just no where near as awesome.

Getting off-topic, but has anyone seen the Youtube vid where some guys stuck a civic on a dyno and used a petrol leaf blower pushed into the inlet manifold? THAT worked, then they got a NOS bottle and opened it up into the blower suction to add a little extra kick. I think they actually managed to get something insane like 50-60hp boost out of it! At work, so can't youtube, but it's awesome!

Just get an extended hose and sit the pull start blower on the passenger seat. Good for a quarter mile or going down the straight at Calder.  :D

Or get my wife sitting in the passenger seat with a tube that leads around into the inlet manifold... her screaming and hyperventilation when I go 'too fast' would give me more HP....and I have a perpetual horsepower machine....

Oh man that is one of the best youtube videos ever!

Thank you for posting that.  ;D
