Engine swap? What's wrong with the L-series? RB20/25/26/30 swaps are popular here in Australia, but I believe parts are not so readily available in the USA... hybridz.org has plenty of engine swap information.

well the engine in it has way to many mile on it and is knocking i just got it to run and then that happend the only reason i want to do a swap is because i cant seem to find a good stock one for cheap around so i wanted to see if i could find a easy and cheap motor swap lol

There is no such thing as a "best engine swap" for these cars, there is "what is best for the owner swaps" though.

Some like the LSx swap, personally I can't stand those engines and don't understand why people think they are the best thing since the invention of the wheel. Some like RB swaps, some SR20s, some 2JZ, some like Ford powerplants, some, like me, like to use non conventional swaps, or rather the road less traveled, or not at all.

Figure out what your real use of the car will be, don't lie to yourself, saying that you need 2 million horsepower, and 5 billion foot/lbs of torque, and only ever drive it to the local cruise nights, car shows and for some ice cream with a date.

Build your car to real uses not imagined ones, just because that's what everyone else does.

Also another warning, don't dare as this same question on Hybridz, you'll get flamed hard for it and people won't take your serious questions that you ask down the road with any sort of merit.

well thanks for the info i just wanted to see what other people thought.

im just trying to make this my toy i have a daily driver so this one is just my first new project

and ya i know it was a dumb to ask but hey you cant get any where in life if you dont learn right??

and by the way i think i may go with the sr20 because thats what i put in my 240sx so its kinda but not really the same beast but thanks

6shooter wasn't saying it was a dumb question, please don't take it that way.  He was warming you that some of the guys on Hybridz are quite snappy at times and not as kind, caring and understanding as us down under.

Good luck with which ever path you choose.

Exactly, I was just giving you a warning about HybridZ.org. I figured since you live in the US, then you would end up on there anyway, as most people around the world with Z cars seem to, at least for a short time.

Us Aussies are bound by the restrictions of our Nanny State laws, and though I know very little about engine swaps, I would think the availability/legality/cost of many different swaps is different here than in the US. Things here needs to be engineered which costs $$$ which changes what people do here in Aus. Guys on a budget just pop in a L28 cause it doesn't need to be engineered, and those that go for more than that and have a big budget go all out cause of the cost of engineering and upgrading makes the price of the actual engine pale in comparison. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Anyway, Hybridz is without a doubt the best place for you to look and get ideas, you don't even have to post if people here have scared you out of it, just take it all in and make the decision that is best for you.

I can't remember why, but when I was looking for an engine upgrade I was seriously considering the 3UZ-FE ... 4L V8. No idea why though. I think I saw a front cut cheap. Too long ago to recall.

So, you guys really do say "y'all" alot in Texas huh?

Always thought it was more of a stereotype. Bit like how we all wear speedo's & zinc cream and ride Kangaroo's to school, putting our books in their pouches of course.  ;D

SR20 DET in a Z would be awesome, weight distribution would be better too!
