Ladies and Gents

Have just received my new wheels today. Gone for the Rota RBs, 17x9 (-13) and 17x9.5 (-19). Have offered them up to the car, so if anybody needs to know any dimensions of the wheels or against the car, let me know before they get their grooves on and bolted up.

Rota RB-R 16x8 +04 with 225/50/16s all round on a '73 240Z. Only modification require was to call the guard roller and roll the rear lips up. Going to change the front to a 205/50/16 I feel that it's just got a bit too much tyre on the front currently.

Can anyone confirm the wheels on the red 240/60 with the G nose....they look like stock steel hub caps but don't look like 14's? Better still, any contact details of the owner?

Not to everyones taste but Ive been toying with the idea of replicating the stock hub caps but to fit a 15 or 16 " wheel. Any ideas?

Thanks.

I guess you could do it if you welded some tags on the insde of the rim for the caps to grip on to

hi Decoy, great pics..

are you looking to change to a 205 because your scrubbing or purely aesthetics ? Ive got the same rims  (sitting in boxes gathering dust)..

also I didnt think you had to flaten the inner lip on the rear...hmmmm

Im thinking to go for 215/50/16 on the fronts  but geez, talk about a rare size that hardly any tyre company makes.

I've thought of the same thing before. Seen it done on old Mustang's and liked it a lot. Thought it would look good on a 240z too. That red ZG looks good, anymore pics / angles of it?

Could you tell me if the 17x9.5's will fit on the front? I know the valance/airdam would need to be modified, but want to know if it'll clear suspension. Or if you could put a pic up that'll be great.

Thanks Tai

Kato Kid: he did something like zzzzed suggested below. I can find out next time i see him if you want. The steelies arent zed steelies i think they are falcadore as the car is running 5 lug i think. I wasn't really paying attention when they were talking about it. Something about glueing something inside the hubcap i think. Owner is in Zed Club Q and runs a RB25/30DET, his name escapes me at the moment.

Candy33: You have got 0.00% chance of fitting a 9.5" wide rim on the front of a 240Z not running flairs. You should spend some time over on hybridz.org - it covers everything about the 17x9 / 9/.5s Click Here

chris240: Asthetics only, there is more room on the front than the back. I think the 225 is too much tyre up front on a zed and looks too chunky. A 205 will give a mild stretch which is the look im after. I didnt have to lip the front guards to run 225s though. To run a 205 it's going to have to be lowered at least an addition 1.5" in the front on what low king springs give you (but stock low king springs leave the car nose up and it looks dumb anyway). Should be no problem with the HKS height adjustable coilovers in the post :D 225/50/16 are stock tyres for a lot of 90's imports like 300ZX so a lot easier to get. I will have another set of rims for the track and will run 225s all round on them.

Thanks but I think you misinterpreted me.  I have flares, but just wanted to know if the 9.5's clear suspension so that I can rotate tyrers etc. . I've read the threads on hybrids, but it was a cardboard mockup and not a real 'wheel' in regards to whether it fits or not. But never mind, I'm gonna go 9's on the front to be safe.

I have seen cars running 9.5" fronts in the states. If you are running coilovers it would probably fit. Just work out what your back space is and what it is for a 9.5" rota. I think that majority of the extra width is on the outside of the rim hence the extra dish and im sure the topic has been covered on hybridz.org.

I believe roberto is rining 9.5" on the rear and 9" on the front with 245 tires all round. So if your worried about tyre rotation you dont need the rims to be the same width to run the same width tyre

What I mean is take off wheel from the rear and place onto front and vice versa.. Not remove tyres and place onto another rim.

But no biggie, I've settled on 9" fronts now.

I've just installed a set of rotas 16 x 8 +10 with 225's on them and they fit great with my coilovers. If anyone wants any measurements just ask.

Hi RBX, Im currently looking at this setup as a legal option for my 240. Is there any way you could measure the wheel track, Front and rear, from the center of the wheels ? I have a wheel track that the engineer whats me to be under

1384mm for the front and 1371mm for the rear, If you could help me with this information it would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not being smart or anything but couldn't you just measure your car and do a calculation?

If you meaure from wheel hub to wheel hub, then add your +10mm offset?? My measurement might be different to yours being it has offset control arm bushes in the rear and a relicated front control arm hinge point. I would take a punt and say you could get away with not having your guards rolled with these wheels as longs as you didn't plan to 'drop it in the weeds'. Depends on what your plans are. You wouldn't run this size rim with flares? What's the engineer got to do with it all.

I can measure the distance when I'm back in town.

Nah your right mate, Ive been doing a bit of research on this topic. It is a real sticking point for me. My guards and quarters are already cut to accept the 17 x 9.5.

I have to get an engineers for the RB25DET conversion, a bit hard when my wheels are to big. So i have two options, 1 i put stockies on it, get the engineers, then put the real wheels back on or find a nice set of legal wheels that will suit my car with cut panels and flares. the information i received today is that if i run a 16x8 in a +4 offset then it should only increase the wheel track by 25mm total, that is the maximum aloud. But custom wheels for this option and$2100 with tyres is an issue if it don't come in under the measurement.

Id like to keep the car legal, but if push comes to shove and i don't like the look, back to the 17x9.5 it will be. just getting paranoid about cops giving me grief.

Weather 16x8 would suit a car with flares is another issue. Do you run flares ?

16x8 -0 will sit relatively flush with the body. Will look quite silly with flares and those wheels!!

well Thats what i figured, Bugger it. seems like a set of 15s for the engineer is in my future.

If you maintain the same overall diameter it will look good - most zeds i saw in japan run 15"s just make sure you lower your car heaps - that's what makes it look right.
