redrbzed Posted November 17, 2012 Posted November 17, 2012 Dimitri, that time was set on worn out semis, with new tyres and some more track time mid 44s would be possible. As far as slicks go I really don't know, maybe a couple of seconds faster again. Quote
redrbzed Posted November 17, 2012 Posted November 17, 2012 Got a nice pic of the Zed in action. Quote
redrbzed Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 Did a sprint with the WRX club at PI today, the track is AMAZING! So smoooooth, you folks that go to the Z nationals are going to love it. Managed a PB 1:44.7 very happy with the time. cheers, Sinisha Quote

PZG302 Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 Just having a dig around on Natsoft looking for results of today's Wakefiled 300, and found this..... http://racing.natsoft.com.au/results/#7 Results from my first ever run at Lakeside, supporting the Super Tourers in 2000, first ever look at the track, doing 67's on Friday and down to 64's on Saturday for qualifying, and then 65's racing on Sunday and a DNF for the main race as I popped the head gaskket on Friday and the motor screamed enough when we had a red flag on lap one and the heat soak sitting on the grid meant the motor wouldn't fire up again when we were restarted. I was also able to find races from 97 at all the tracks when I took out the '97 Marque Sports Drivers Championship in NSW. I miss racing at Amaroo, in my opinion a harder track than Lakeside, it bit even harder if you went off, though not as quick, some would say a jig jog track as you won't get into 5th........ Quote
Jk_zeder Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 Have only taken the car out 3 times. 165hp on rsr semi's. Plenty of room for improvement. Lakeside - 64.79 (with macleans reg traffic with fuel surge) QR, Clubman - 64.98 (no excuse, i was just crap) Norwell - 63.6 (semi wet) James Quote
PZG302 Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Took the haidresser car out to Lakeside on Monday for the MX5 club track day. I ended up going round in a 68.28, so very happy with that out of a near standard 1600, and still need to be braver under brakes. If I chase the right person I should be able to get into a low 67 later in the year. I ended up 4th in class, missing the top three by 0.2 of a second and around a second off winning the class, hence need to chase the right bloke, ie the class leader. Quote
luvemfast Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 All this talk of MX5's and chasing blokes will start people talking......... Quote
PZG302 Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 All this talk of MX5's and chasing blokes will start people talking......... They probably already are...... Interesting to note the speed difference between the old Zed and the hairdresser car, in the Zed I was going under the gantry at a calculated 210km/h, in the MX5 the speed is an indicated 160km/h, which from my GPS is about spot on. Braking points into the karasel are the same, as are the braking oints into hungry. I could go a little deeper under brakes in the MX, but I need to keep the right foot off the middle pedal for a little longer, the brain goes in ppreservation mode a little too early around lakeside in that car. The 6-7 second longer lap time doesn't feel much slower than the Zed, which is suprising, I am still jst as busy, so shows how a well set up competition car is easy to drive quick compared to a well set up road car. I would say the main difference is the better seat and harness in the race car so you don't have to brace yourself like in the road car. Quote
260DET Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 So much for my turbo power, on a good lap I can hit 210kph a bit further on at the kink. You NA boys should be creaming me Quote
PZG302 Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Richard, My Zed ran out of puff at about 210 in 4th at 6800 or so and i changed up to 5th at the gantry for the run through the kink and down to the Karasel. Absolute flat out speed would be around 220km/h unless I was at Bathurst where the run down Conrod would give the car a chance to wind out to about 6500 in 5th which would be calculated at about 230-240 depending on final revs achieved. Passing others just after the bus stop at about 180 or so is interesting, need a lot of trust there. But the old dunger was good for 61's in door to door racing around there so not too bad. Quote
dat2kman Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Mattie, it's def a different playing field, ie race v lapdash warriors. Over on pf there is interesting posts in motorsport section re HANS devices. It strikes me that some lapdash one lap guys are immortal, but at sub 60 second single flyers, their necks just can not be broken. What does the red ragtop weigh in at vs the Z? I'da thought youd get higher corner entry speed/exit speed, it's just the lack of top end thats keeping it at high 60's How do we solve that? Quote

The MX weighs in at around 980-1000kg, so about 50kg heavier. I know how to loose about 6 seconds a lap, but it means about a $12k investment in motor and ecu, which the haidresser car is not destined for. The MX5 track days are for shits and giggles, but I am only a second off the class leader, so the competetive streak is cominng out, so am starting to play with the suspension a little now as brakes are sorted and no more motor work to be done. I may look at fittinng up a race seat and harness to get that extra time as well as at the moment I am only using the standard seat and belt which means I am slidinng around all over the shop and I know that's costinng me time as well as buggering up my shoulder goingthrough turns 1 and 2 at QR. The S14 should come in at about 1050kg and around 300-350hp with the restictions on what I can do with the motor. I will be dissapointed if I am not doing 56's once it is sorted, just need to get the collection of fun tickets stacked up hhigh enough. Quote
PeterAllen Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 Anyone who has been around Lakeside might like to compare their times to some of the Aussie Greats of 50 years ago. Quote

On the subject of safety, most of the fast sprint cars are later models which are way superior safety wise to the 60's 70's stuff. Cars like old Datsuns, Minis, are death traps compared, there is a reason why they are light. As for power, spend some money and get a pro to do the engine work. Not just any pro, there are a couple of guru's down south who are doing great work with L6's, particularly with heads which afterall are the key to power. Quote
Riceburner Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 First time out racing in the new Gnose Riceburner at the 2013 Nissan Datsun nationals. New PB 1min54.6secs! Quote
luvemfast Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Duuude I'm officially G-mans biatch! My best time, at my first outing at Phillip Island, was 2:03.0017 But boy. Did I have fun That's with 143kW's at the wheels @6,000rpm Chatting with Gordo over the weekend. This is lost opinions. But he feels mine, is a 1:57 car. I tend to agree. Watching my video. I have a lot of areas to improve. Quote
peter mc Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 after the weekends racing I'm so glad i spent the cash to get a full race suit and Hans device , i felt after seeing two fires after crashes it was the best decision i have made in a long time . every one thinks it wont happen to them , well it not if its when boys. Pete Absolutely, it only takes a second and you will wish you had every piece of safety gear known to exist. ie: A window net was not required in my crash, years ago, but the reason I still have full use of my right arm !! Cheers PB Quote
dat2kman Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Smart move Pete! Anyone can eadily order and get one delivered from overseas, the basic version with the post clips to attach to your existing helmet, around $550 aud I have one now, from Murray Motorsprt in Ireland. Also NickyGrist.com, DemonTewwks. Com do them. After a death and a fairly severe touring car crash at Lakeside in Qld, there is a heck of a lot more awareness for these. Quote
luvemfast Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 What was the second crash and fire Pete? But you're right. Certainly does make you think. Had Tom not have been able to climb out the door window. You only need to see the burnt drivers seat to see how close the flames were! Quote
peter mc Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 there was a fire in a 1200 the fuel from stand off went up and made a mess off the car , and last time i had noels car out it went up and made a mess because the coil fuse went and the injectors were still running as it was rolling down the road , then it sparked up on the hot exhaust , the car went up big time , was very nasty , i will never drive a race car now with out all the gear on , and the hans works very well to keep you locked in to the belts , i like it a lot Quote
DAZDA Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Chassis – ‘73 240Z Engine – Standard L28, Round Top SU-style Carburettors, Points Ignition, Standard Cam, etc (from factory when new the carby L28 had ~100kW at the flywheel) so this one probably has about 80kW at the wheels at best... PZG302 Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Took the hairdresser car out to QR to run with the MX5 club on Monday. The MX5 club knows how to run a track day, 5 runs on the clubman circuit, 5 and a half runs on the sprint circuit, 2nd last run of the day I got fuel surge so had to duck in for a splash and dash to make the last run. Not bad for an afternoon session and only $125 to run. Their next track day will be in Julay at Lakeside, all day for $125, so going on the last day out there will get at least 10 runs. I have yet to see better bang for your buck for a sprint day up here. Anyway onto the good stuff, I ended up fastest modified 1600 with a time of 68.08 on the clubman for the pointscore, and a 64.4 for the sprint circuit. Car has 218000km old original motor with extractors and exhaust only, cheap coilovers and sticky tyres, far less modified than the other cars I run against, so very happy with that and still some time to come with being braver under brakes. Also got brave enough to go through turns 1 and 2 with just a lift off and no brakes, next step is to get through 2 without lifting. Quote
