PZG302 Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 Was supposed to take the Z for a shakedown at QR yesterday but had some dramas with the throttle linkages for the dyno tune so I took the MX5 out instead. Bog standard 1.6, except for Genie headers and 2" exhaust with Bridgestone RE001's that are still at 80% tread depth, set to 34 psi cold, and standard brake pads. The shocks are I don't know how old or what rates, just know they are pretty close to stock, if not the originals adn the car has 205000 on the clock with the original untouched motor. Got down to 1:08's on the Sprint circuit and cracked a 1:11 on the Clubman circuit. Pretty chuffed with those results. Ended up running 16-17th in a field of 31 with everything from out and out track monsters through to stock road cars like mine. The MX felt like it was driving on a sponge with the tread squirm from the road tyres, though I was impressed with the even wear I got. Whoever did the whelle alignment last, before I bought it in December 2008, did a good all round alignment. Looking at Jason's times, the Z should be good for around 60 to 61 sec's on the Clubman circuit once I get full throttle. Will also be looking forward to driving a car with a lot more support in the seat, my shoulders are very stiff from using the steering wheel to hold me in place and both thighs are bruised from bracing against the transmission tunnel and arm rest on the door. Only had 2 spins, so wasn't really trying hard eneough...... Quote
dat2kman Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 pzg302 Zed Club Qld is holding a "40 years of Z, 25 years of Z Car Club Qld" at Lakeside raceway on 27th Sept. You WILL be there So will I All others Z enthusiasts are very welcome to celebrate the Z car's 40th birthday. Last time there in an old 120y, (it had a L series 2.1 in it) did 61's Quote
PZG302 Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 Don't know if i can make that, I might be in WA sitting on a train between Port hedland and Newman, and i still need to get the Z onto the dyno now the throttle linkages are sorted and I've had some other bits and pieces sorted out. I know the noise meter won't like it, and may even struggle with the quiet system. Quote
. Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 I managed to pull 5 seconds off my previous best at lakeside. My new best is 67.8 seconds. Not bad considering it was hard to get a clean run with all the traffic and I was having fuel surge issues and had to skip a few laps. All in all a very good day. I still think the car in its current setup has another second or two in it. Still getting the tyre pressures correct. Managed to record a heap of tyre data. Plus I still aim to increase the horsepower a little and remove another 20 Kgs. One of the other zeds cracked a 62, but I don't think I am aiming for that yet. I am happy striking a second off at a time. Quote
dat2kman Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 Historic racing car club Qld, one day race meet at lakeside today,18/10/09 Blue 280Z set fastest lap time in all three races, two second o/r's and a 1st o/r. With the good tyres on 18" slicks, and washed in traction V, hope to get down to 61's and maybe even crack a 60. Will have to see how we go as I haven't driven the Z in about 3 years and need to bed everything in as well as me..... Car is on the dyno on Friday and quiet exhaust will be fitted on the weekend along with front brakes and bleeding the system again!!!!! Quote
dat2kman Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 pzg302, simple, stick me in your car, I now know which way the track goes!!! Only one problem, I'll be on my way to Sandown for that weekend. Quote
PZG302 Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 pzg302, simple, stick me in your car, I now know which way the track goes!!! Don't think so!!!!! I know which way the track goes, and now it's even wider than I remember it from supporting the Super Tourers Looking forward to the run and to see how long it takes me to get back in the groove, shouldn't be too long if I could get the MX round QR pretty sharpish..... PZG302 Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Took the MX to Lakeside yesterday, got down to a 1:10.61, so happy with that. Not so happy with smacking the armco with the front and rear quarters of the left hand side coming out of the Karusel, trying too hard on road tyres. At least the damage was only cosmetic and will give me some panel beating practice. Quote
PZG302 Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 Not bad on road tyres. Well done Thanks, Getting the Z ready for Noosa on the weekend, should be interesting to see where I am in realation to John Siddons, hopefully the extra power from the new head will get me back to where I was quite a few years ago when we ran the Aust. Hillclimb Chapionship at Bathurst, and wasn't that far behind him. Quote
. Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 The only way I could stay just behind Jon Siddons is if he had a back seat Quote
dat2kman Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 just once, and only once mind you, I managed to better Jon Siddens at Morgan park in 2008, Matt, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE YOU NAUGHTY BOY, told ya I shoulda showed you the "way" Just got back from Sandown Historics 2009, lap time in the stock prodsports logbooked Groups Dato 280z, a 1.28.2 Caught up with Lurch, Ash and Dimitri, and Mr Lurch ( Dad!) Great to meat you guys! I hope I didn't give you the shi*s too much, Lochie!!!!!!!!!! Quote
PZG302 Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 Matt, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE YOU NAUGHTY BOY, told ya I shoulda showed you the "way" A little too exuberent out of the carosel and dropped the left rear off the tar turning me round and smacking the wall looking backwards. Only a small dent in the front gurad and a GT stripe front and rear from the armco. Was one of two to hit that bit of fence. A 323 Astina went straight in and smacked the front right, again only cosmetic damage for him. We also had a Porsche Boxter lose it in the kink and hit the tyre barriers on the inside of the tracl backwards breaking his rear bar and tail light. Better I did it in the MX than the Z Quote
Scando Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 Good to hear the historics meet went well Jason. From looking at the empty spectator areas at PI it was pretty obvious where all the crowds had gone. And for good reason too! I'd much prefer watch the historics than the supertaxis. Anybody got any pics from the historics? Quote
PZG302 Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 Well, a mixed bag for me at the Noosa Classic Hillclimb last weekend. The good, didn't bend the car, didn't break the motor. The only damage was cracking the front spoiler getting out of the pits when someone wouldn't move so I couldn't get out at an angle. The bad, not having any confidence in the brakes lost me a lot of time, as there was pedal but no retardation. I really need to sort these out. Everything points to the brakes working, but they don't, so some more head scratching for me there. Also not having driven the car in anger for three and a half years I was very rusty and not comfortable in it. By the end of the weekend I was starting to find my feet again and able to have some fun, hopefully putting on a show for the crowd with some sliding around corners and power oversteer out of corners. My best time was a 68, very dissapointed in that, 6 seconds off the pace. I know that there was a few seconds in me and couple in the car, so I should have been a lot closer to John Siddons' times. The fun, the motor pulled better than a 14 year old and I had no problems at all during the weekend, save for the first run where I had a moment and had to get out of the throttle and the car overfuelled badly fouling the plugs which didn't clear until the end of the run, giving me a time of 89 seconds For the rest of the weekend it was all good for me, but a bit frustrating. Should have it sorted for next year..... Just found the photos for the event up on the web, here's a couple of links showing how close I got to having it all end in tears...... http://www.teamfoto.photoape.com/album/photo/index.cfm?albumID=28012&photoPage=85 http://www.teamfoto.photoape.com/album/photo/index.cfm?albumID=28012&photoPage=86 Quote
dat2kman Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 Hmm dunno if it qualifies, but at Eastern Creek last weekend, HSRCA Historic race meet, in my orther Dato, the Sports 2000 hysterical racer, managed a 1.53.23 in race 3 Group S races on the Sunday Yeah I know it's not a turbo whizzbang, but it is all original with a U20 motor. A WHAT Yes a U20, original from 1967 Didnt too so good in R1 or R3, engine electrics went in R1, and in R3 throttle cable snapped, after I managed to get into fifth o/r gggrrrrrrr Quote
be-zed Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 All these times are impressive, but not having raced at lot of tracks . I am not sure what is fast at which track. But I know Lakeside and QLD Raceway sprint and clubman tracks well.So this is just rule of thumb times . 70 is quick ,67.00 is fast,65.00 is very fast,63.00 is exotic car fast, 61.00 is bloody fast, 60.00 or under you will have trouble convincing people that your car is legal and road reg . this is for S30 type only . Add around 2-3 seconds for the clubman track at QR Quote
260DET Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 Lakeside, Q, done a few 61 second laps, best is 1:01.4. Car is a 280ZXT 2+0, VG30DET engine, Nitto NT01 tyres. A couple of 61 second laps in here Quote
