If anyone gives him a call, can you tell me what ball park figure he's looking at for it?

That camber can't be legal! Tough looking z though

Camber might have just be for an event, but I don't think the wheels sticking out that far would be legal.

Looks very tidy, but would be asking for engineers certificate for seats as well seeing if all the custom gear from AZC passed road worthy.

$29k seems like a lot, gees 240z's are starting to go up.

Yeah I was looking on one of the car sales sites the other week and the lowest 240z was $18000 and the highest was $95000  :o There was quite a few on there too. When I bought the yellow car 3 years ago there was only a couple in that year that were lsited for more than $18000

Most of them Zeds have been there of ages now.

You can ask any price you want and thats why their still for sale.

He's right, there are quite a few over-priced cars on there. Including this white car. $29,000 as much as I like S30's I don't think they are quite there yet in terms of value. I would suggest it's worth a little over half that.

I do love the wheels and stance though.

Come on fella's, talk t it up a little, compared to an XU-1 there worth double the $29 grand he is asking!!

Don't start the overpriced Aussie muscle market debate  ???

In terms of driving, the Z outperforms most if not all.

But there's nothing better than pulling up at a set of lights with all the windows down with your Aussie muscle car shaking at idle, glancing at the envious looks and think to yourself "Yeah, this is the sh1t!"  ;D

That's why you have one of each ;D ;D

The muscle car for the Sunday cruise, the Zed to fast around the track and the haidresser's car for the dirty weekend away......

Sorry - but I do agree somewhat with what the guys are saying.

Some of the higher priced Zeds on carsales have been there a looooooooooooong time.  I just watch them drop in price every month.

Only one bucking the trend is a blue 240z that went from $85K to $95K.  ???  I don't know why he bothers to list it at all.

The other one's listed that I do not quite "get" either are Edward Lees Zeds.  Pretty sure the stock Orange and ZG Red Zed he lists are advertised at ridiculous prices so he does NOT have to sell them!

At a guess - would say they are his personal cars, but he lists them at stupid prices through his business for some sort of tax benefit.  Something dodgy there for sure!

Anyway - people are entitled to advertise Zeds for whatever they want - obviously the owners selling believe they are worth every cent, but clearance rates would indicated market does not.

Personally - I do not think Zeds are "quite there yet" either.  One day though!

Wish the seller all the best though...Work rims look awesome!

Hey guys,

I think the only way to settle this debate is simple. We need to come up with a rating system for these cars.

1. Concourse example

2. Excellent Condition

3. Average

4. Poor

5. Good for parts

Then we need to determine what constitutes qualification for each category. Once we have established a criteria simply record the sale price of each S30 we see sold. Then add to a spreadsheet or database and graph over time. We can then see average sale price.

We could also record how long each car is for sale to determine avg days till sale and see the correlation of price vs days to sale.

Could create a public spreadsheet using Google Docs or similar? That way members can enter details as they see fit. The Ebay thread might be a good start.

Good idea Gav.

I didn't mean to start another 'my car is worth what I say it is' and 'your car is worth what I'm willing to pay for it" argument that we seem to have every 6 months haha. Just stating that on the day I was looking, the cheapest 240z on carsales was $18000 and I think that is shocking for any z owner :D

I think the issue has always been with the zeds, what people want for them doesn't really reflect what you can pay for them if you are patient and look around. As the bargains you can find lying around dry up, the price will go up. But at least I know I probably won't be losing any money on my cars. I could have bought a shitty little new 4 cylinder car for $20k that is now worth maybe $10k or my zed which is probably still worth what i paid for it, if not a little bit more.

In my opinion, based on the photos I would say $14000-$16000 for this 240z and that price is paying more for the style rather than the workmanship, no offence to the seller. Hopefuly he can get something in the $20k range

While I appreciate the potential output of this system, I can't see how this accommodates the wide range of vehicles 240Z's & 260Z's now encompass.  e.g. how do you rationally compare in $ terms an untouched "driven by 1 little old lady on Sundays" single owner Z with a fully rebuilt 240Z RB25DET conversion, with a winning 2+2 rally car?  While these cars may sell for exactly the same price they will have widely different values to different groups within the market.

Ultimately, achieved market price is the only way to rank our cars effectively in $ terms.  Like houses, the vehicles are only worth what someone is willing to pay on the day they sell.  (He says, as someone who paid the best part of a house deposit for one of his Z's...)

Our cars are worth more now than they were 2 to 3 years ago.  They will be worth more in another 2 or 3 years & then more again another 2 or 3 years after that.  If you've got one now, enjoy the fact.  If you haven't got one, get on board.  Please just don't try to gain consensus for what your car is "worth".

<end red wine fuelled rant>

There might be a simple reason - he does not want to sell it but someone else in the family/relationship does - so he is doing both, 1 listing it making an effort. 2 The price is such it will not sell = he gets to keep it.

It might seem like a good idea to have some sort of scale, as many of us know these cars can have a lot of bad spots for the rust to hide so what at first looks to be a good car can infact be something much worse :( I am sure a number of members on this forum can relate to that (sad as it is) Also what someone called a great car (take Project Hugo ebay add when first purchased - Rust Free 240z - yeah right) can infact be a poor car and should be parts only. I am sure this is not just left to our beloved Datsun S30's either, I bet spend sometime on other classic car sites and you will find many such stories of a great car not actually being that great after all.

Anyway back to the scale - this is much like the market price ie can be subjective - I might look at a zed and say it parts only but other might think it is a good car - and my opinion might be based on getting a good tin man to cut of the tin worm other might do this themselves and thus will think of the car as a good car but I would be thinking of the $$ required to pay said tin man.
