benny Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 looks awesome matt, is the other quarter coming off too?? Quote
Bigfella Posted June 27, 2011 Author Posted June 27, 2011 looks awesome matt, is the other quarter coming off too?? At this point Benny I would say no! it appears to only have rust down the bottom. So I should be able to cut and fix. But I won't commit to that as we all know what happens when you start digging around. I have left the wheel arch a bit rugged as I will be putting flairs on so it didn't seem worth making it pretty. Thanks Matty O Quote
peter t Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 Keep up the good work mate and you will soon be out and about. Interior colour looks the same as mine was. Quote
Bigfella Posted July 9, 2011 Author Posted July 9, 2011 Guess who's got a rotisserie, Thanks to Mossy . I got is mounted up today ready to drop all the running gear out tomorrow. Not sure about the mounting points at the moment. I will see what it is like to spin once I get it up there. I may still mod the the mounts. Quote
MaygZ Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 You will find it soooo much easier to work on on the rotisorrie. Stops you laying on the ground and welding above your head! Much easier in the knees and back too. Project is looking good mate. Well done Quote
Bigfella Posted August 1, 2011 Author Posted August 1, 2011 I got a couple of hand winches mounted on the weekend. So up she goes. Quote
Bigfella Posted November 1, 2011 Author Posted November 1, 2011 I have got a bit don over the last couple of weeks. I still have a lot of floor to cut out and replace but the drivers side is not looking to bad now. I have to put the seat mounts back in but it is getting there. Here are some pics! Quote
benny Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 great work matt!! love the effort you've put into replicating the details in the panels Quote
Sirpent Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 great work matt!! love the effort you've put into replicating the details in the panels +1 Have to say I don't envy anyone having to go through what you have, but you guys get my total respect. Well done Matt Quote
Bigfella Posted November 1, 2011 Author Posted November 1, 2011 great work matt!! love the effort you've put into replicating the details in the panels Thanks Guys. My metal forming is improving with every panel I do. I'm a bit concerned about having the new panels sitting there raw. I want to POR the floor eventually but want to wait until I have done both sides. I was wondering if it would be a good idea to spray some cheap primer over it until then. But of corse then I will have to strip them back again. Also should I put seam sealer on before POR or after "Thought anyone" Thanks Matty O Quote
peter t Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Just pore heaps of por 15 on it and that should do the trick. Just my thoughts. Thats what I would do. Quote

C.A.R. Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 I'd just give it a quick spray of Etch primer to protect the panel before paint, Matt Quote
Bigfella Posted November 1, 2011 Author Posted November 1, 2011 I'd just give it a quick spray of Etch primer to protect the panel before paint, Matt I'm guessing that wouldn't be a good idea under POR though? Quote
C.A.R. Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 Not sure - read the Data Sheet for the POR15 to check it it's compatable. Quote
RB30X Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 My understanding is you can etch prime, then paint later, or just POR and leave it. POR does both which is why its so expensive. Quote
jamo240 Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 Matt....Maaaate!! Love your work and tenacity, as that has been one huge job.....BUT, I hope other prospective restorers take note of the work and effort involved in recovering a badly rusted body.! Having done one or two over the years, I can only say to people that it is ALWAYS ALWAYS better to spend more money on buying the best car you can afford to start with. These days, I'm quite happy to buy a car that's already done up and start from there, rather than buy a roughy and fix it up from scratch. Body work burns up squillions of hours, and hours cost money. If you love body work, knock yourself out, but if you want the cheapest way home, start with a good body! Cheers Jamo Quote

Luckely I really enjoy the body work. I don't know how I am going to go once it is all done and I am left with mechanical work. Thanks Guys Quote

I don't know how I am going to go once it is all done and I am left with mechanical work. I'm sure if you offered, quite a few zeds would be lined up outside your place for some good rust repairs.. excellent work! Quote
