no not really  its sits on tires and the sil panel takes most of the weight  its also tied up so not to fall back on me i hope

Look at the way i did Dalee orange Zed or in the How to restore guide. There is more than one technique and the thing is that all of them work.

 

But spend 50 grand on a restoration and then tell the new owner just before he signs the check that you detailed the belly by (insert method) and how would he react?

Whilst I agree with Scoota that there is more than one way to get things done, some of them are just wrong.  This, to me, appears to be one of those.  It shows a certain amount of a lack of mechanical empathy.

 

I understand that a lack of ready funds creates the need for ingenuity, but really, is this the best solution to your problem?

Tell me what weights/side load are on the side of your car?

Do you think they are designed for these loads?

What are the results of such loads on the body, chassis and structural areas?

Will it put cracks or twist/bend your car?

What could result of these hairline fractures when driving "spirited" in the hills?

 

Do you think that spending a few hours making a rotisserie would be such a bad idea? If you cannot make one, why do you think that this is ok then?

Dont know most of those answers but if i can lift the car up like that threes  not that much weight  so i  dont think it is twisting or cracking the shell .

Bryan, I agree with Simon and Mick... etc, the frame was not designed to take pressure in that area, fair enough you don't have a rotisseri, but when you right it again and hook up doors etc you might find the frame has warped slightly, making it difficult for everything to fit up... Just my opinion, I wouldnt have risked it.

 

Goodluck with it though, will be interesting to see the results

While I would not recommend the method, I would also say that so long as you rolled it gently I think you have a reasonable chance of it working out ok. I think if the chassis was going to bend permanently from rolling it like that then I don't think it would have the strength to deal with all the loads on the road. Just trying to give you hope. Suck it and see. Worse case just roll it on to the other side to straighten it again

 

While you have it apart maybe put a roll cage in. That would compensate for any weakness in the chassis. But make sure your doors fit first.

Just though i would share some wise words..................... When i was a young boy starting out as a race mechanic a snr mechanic said to me 'would you do that at Mclaren 'when i was doing something dodgy and my answer was no............. and he replied 'why would you do it here then dickhead'.

In short there may be more than one way, but there is only one correct way!!!!

You will find the correct way will be the cheapest in the long run.

I certainly wouldn't be cutting or welding.

 

Take a lot of accurate measurements, diagonals too while it's up there. Do you underbody work, then drop it very, very softly. Take more measurements and see if anything has changed, theres no drivetrain or interior so it may end up ok, if anythings out it should show up and then worry about it.

 

My Ricey is out of square, helps in left handers though
