camZ Posted May 25, 2010 Author Posted May 25, 2010 Thanks Lurch & Benji. I rang Trevor, he laughed, said Ben had just rang before me. He tried to help but alas. One of my concerns is if I go the engineer path they may not pass the emmissions from triple webers as they run a bit rich and the carbon cannister would probably have to connect all 3 carbies. Also I only run filters on the rocker cover and crankcase vents. Could try and find some original 1977 carbies with plumbing Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted May 25, 2010 Moderators Posted May 25, 2010 Didn't think it would be such a headache! Might have to stick some 240Z Hitatchi's on there and the L26. Quote
Scoota G Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 I can't see if you mentioned the year model. Is it 77? Quote
camZ Posted May 25, 2010 Author Posted May 25, 2010 Yeah 1977, I wish I knew more about the emission requirements 8 years ago. 75 would be a better year Quote
benny Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 haha funny stuff!!! not to condone dodgyness but for some cash someone may write it off for you Quote
FuzzyDropbear Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 Ah right, so it's not so much about the fact that it's an L28, but it's more that it's a post '75 car with an engine that doesn't have the emissions gear on it? Quote
GV260 Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 Don't forget if your seeking insurance, then a declared engineer's certificate for any mod's will be required in the event of a loss claim otherwise your policy will be null and void. Quote
xa1973 Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 FFS - just take it to another VicRoads!!! Yeah....... I'm agreeing here big time Quote
DatPilot Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Engine number re-stamping isnt a hard task, just get a tool maker to make you the correct "L" character as it isnt standard. detection is usually x-ray of some sort, or blue dye soaked into the number. Ive seen an L20AET suddenly turn 350hp due to a weekend capacity increase to 3000cc and $10000 woth of mods. Quote
pauly_adams Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 is there an engine number attached to your compliance plate as my 260z 2+2 does not have one it just has the chasie number, type of car and year of manufacturing mines a 77 model. other than that register it in nsw and go into vic roads and you can transfer it over to vic and you dont even need a inspection a little loop hole. cheers pauly Quote
C.A.R. Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Are you serious Pauly?! - they can't register a car in another state unless they have residency in that state. That's not a loophole - that just stupid! How about you keep your bright idea's to yourself & keep quiet for a while. is there an engine number attached to your compliance plate as my 260z 2+2 does not have one it just has the chasie number, type of car and year of manufacturing mines a 77 model. other than that register it in nsw and go into vic roads and you can transfer it over to vic and you dont even need a inspection a little loop hole. cheers pauly Quote
620Z Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 How can one get so angry at 6.11am in the morning. Ha Ha you guys crack me up about how emotional or passionate you get about these cars. But we do seem to be going around in circles a bit here. Quote
luvemfast Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 How can one get so angry at 6.11am in the morning. Some say he is angry 26 hours a day, all we know that we call him "The Lurch" Quote

camZ Posted May 31, 2010 Author Posted May 31, 2010 And the answer is......... Regulation 8 as Benji referred to earlier. We downloaded heaps of info on the comparison in power and how the 280z was also manufactured in 1977 in the USA. Even copied an ebay advert for a Haynes manual covering 240z,260z & 280z. So we got it registered this afternoon. Thanks to all you guys for your help. Here is a foto of Cam & ! with our girl. Took seven & a half years, now we can enjoy. We will be getting better wheels and finishing off things but for a while we will just enjoy. gav240z 1 Quote
camZ Posted May 31, 2010 Author Posted May 31, 2010 Thank you. The front dam incorporates the bumper bar and is closer to body work where it wraps around under headlights. It is fibreglass. We got it from US but modified it and the flares. Quote
NZeder Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 great news - and excellent work on the project - so what size rubber/rim does it wear? Quote
Riceburner Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 Nice job guys, those mirrors look great too! What are they off? Any chance of a pic of the engine bay? Quote
. Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 Well done guys. The car does look great. Although those flares are not my cup of tea. But if it gives an excuse to wear more rubber then all good I guess. Keep up the great work. Quote
camZ Posted May 31, 2010 Author Posted May 31, 2010 At the moment the wheels are 15 by 8 with 225's. We want to go a bit bigger diameter and drop it down a bit. Wanted to get thru rego first. The mirrors we sourced from USA. wanted ones with LED indicators as we removed the side guard indicators. I think they came from a hotrod parts supplier. Here is the engine bay at present. gav240z 1 Quote
Riceburner Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 Very very cool.. Any power figures? You should have warned us to wear sunglasses when looking at that! Quote
. Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 OMG That engine bay!!!!! Wow, now everyone else, this is what an engine bay should look like. Quote
