Mr240z Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Hi all Just looking at people's insurance options. As Micheal has quoted in his post Vent>< he has his Zed insured though GIO for $10,000 in the Classic & Vintage range. I just got off the phone to GIO and they said I needed a independent valuation as they cant say what a 240z is worth.. Does anyone know of a insurance company that knows Zeds and can recommend to go though. p.s Do you need a lock up garage to be insured. Any ideas would be very helpfull to me and other's. Paul. Quote
Michael Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Very Strange Dude, $10,000 Was the maximum they could do "Before" I would need someone to Value the car, I suppose you wouldnt even consider $10,000 But hrm, Gio Still seems the way to go for me Been real cool and helpful anytime i Asked a question, Silly as it may be. Seriously i said 15 that they said ok, this was in December 07' thinking of increasing the agreed value...Only thing im worried about GIO is im pretty sure they have their own shops to do repairs and such. I'd rather use someone i'd trust with a zed, Shannons works like this yes? Im still too young to use Shannons as an insurer though. Quote
C.A.R. Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Shannons can be a funny. For instance, if your under a member of a AOMC affiliated car club & hold a current CAMS license, I believe they will insure you... Quote
Scando Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 I've got mine insured for $15K through shannons and they know it's a very heavily modified circuit car with a turbo. Because it's only on special interest rego the insurance is only about $150 per year! It's cheaper than the 3rd party insurance I've got on my Bluebird wagon! I do have a CAMS license and am a member of a CAMS affiliated car club which I think helps with Shannons as Lurch said. Quote
lightmaster240z Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Im with Shannons. after a small number of question the deal was done at half the price of the others. The big question was Menber of a club yes =discount less than 4000 km =discount. end result one ahppy camper. regrads bruce PS price $123.00 per year Quote
stevo_gj Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Well I daily drive my Z, am a member of a CAMS car club, and I'm 21. I pay just over 1000 per year to insure my car for $12.5.... Looks like Shannons wasn't such a great deal for me Quote
sexual_sushi Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 I got my 240z insured for $24000 through suncorp for $570 per year (this is when I was 22 as well) with choice of repairer and salvage rights etc. The lack of trubo really helps out for young drivers... Quote
Thomo260 Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Shannons can be a funny. For instance, if your under a member of a AOMC affiliated car club & hold a current CAMS license, I believe they will insure you... I have just insured the 260Z as it gets rego Friday through Shannons. I rang about 2 weeks ago and got a quote for $272. But when I rang today to go ahead with it, I told them I have a CAMS Rally license and got it for $244 with agreed value and all . Also got the daily driver insured aswell for $80 less than Budjet Direct. YEAH HAA. Quote
PZG302 Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Without even seeing my Z Shannons gave me a quote for $170 a year for competition cover for a value of $17,000 and will increase the value if they have a look at it, ie not covered under its own power other than loading or unloading from the trailer. Probably helps I have three other cars with Shannons and have had for nearly 20 years with various cars. Another company worth looking at is Vigil if thety're still around, they were Shannons main competitors in Sydney in the mid 90's and quite competitive for price with the same conditions. Quote
620Z Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Shannons are pricks. Even though I had never had an accident they just looked at my speeding/driving record and wouldn't even entertain the idea. Insured with Vero for agreed value $65,000- for $550-. Got to be happy with that. Quote
reverendzed Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Guys...Shannons promises a lot and delivers nothing near it...I recently had quotes at my preferred repairer for 6000 and Shannons would only approve it at $3000 so the preferred repairer option is a farce! They were hard to deal with in a claim (8 weeks) and then altered my no claim bonus when it was vandalism and not my fault. So...it's a good idea to make sure you ask them some scenarios in regards to possible claims before committing your dollars to them. Rev. Quote
620Z Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Shannon's only want to deal with low risk drivers with expensive cars that are garaged and driven half a dozen times a year on the road. It's easy money. Quote
Scando Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 Depends on your situation really. For what I use my car for Shannons were cheap and I doubt there's many places that would even consider insuring my car. A couple of years ago I had an early GSR turbo lancer for a daily and was still under 25. Shannons quote was $700, I ended up going through Allianz for $400. So it all depends on your situation, shop around! Quote
620Z Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 I agree Scando. Shopping around is best. As much as I hate to say it Shannon's suits my brother and his cars at a reasonable rate. Quote
C.A.R. Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 RACV Classic is also very good, apparently. But they only insure over 25's... Quote
George Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 Shannons are pricks. Even though I had never had an accident they just looked at my speeding/driving record and wouldn't even entertain the idea. Insured with Vero for agreed value $65,000- for $550-. Got to be happy with that. can't see how they're pricks for sticking to their policy. if they insured higher risk customers like yourself they'd have to charge everyone else a little extra to cover their higher risk. you got a good deal it seems. rather high value for $550. what are the limitations? do you have salvage rights? Quote
xa1973 Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 $65k agreed value for $550.00..........bargain Out of curiosity, why so high a value? Quote
C.A.R. Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 It's not exactly a run-of-the-mill modified Zed, Jeffery... Quote
620Z Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Ha yeah what Lurch said. I have spent way more than that. But all I did was add up the raw costs of materials for all the stuff on the car excluding labour and came up with that number. Every item has been listed with a price it cost or there abouts totalling 65K. Mind you this doesn't include the multiple brake, driveline, engine, gear box, suspension, exhaust, extractors, wheels, paint, etc etc that has gone through the car in it's development stage. If I did it right the first time that is close enough to the replacement cost if you wanted to build one. George I figure that I am a low risk driver since I haven't had any accidents. Not many people at my age can say that. But everyone has speeding fines. I just have a few more than the average Joe. Swings & round a bouts I guess. There still pricks! Ha Ha Quote
