waxhead Posted June 18, 2009 Author Posted June 18, 2009 Well im going to bolt it hard to the head and weld it up . The with a furnace i will heat it up to normalise it and cool it slowly Im hoping this will be enough Quote
waxhead Posted June 19, 2009 Author Posted June 19, 2009 Well i welded up two of the pipes today some students wanted to help clean up the pipe and who am I to argue Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted June 19, 2009 Moderators Posted June 19, 2009 Nothing beats slave labour! Ha! Just curious, when assembling a manifold like that for a turbo, is there any special pattern or design you have to follow as in the pulses of exhaust in the firing order? Its hard to explain but like in a NA setup, in a book I've read, it says to keep exhausting cylinders away from intaking cylinders in the same group. That's why you see extractors for L series engines with 1 to 3 and 4 to 6 in two groups with long secondaries; pulses or pressure waves from the first group of the first three have to travel a fair distance to reach the back group of 3 cylinders. zzzzed Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 is it just me or dose that kids arm look extra long like it is stretched Quote
waxhead Posted June 19, 2009 Author Posted June 19, 2009 is it just me or dose that kids arm look extra long like it is stretched Yeah i teach at a special school Ha ha Nah i think it because the iphone camera is a bit slow I didnt notice it but it looks funny Quote
waxhead Posted June 22, 2009 Author Posted June 22, 2009 Well been kinda busy writing school reports Its got in the way of the z build. However with the holidays coming up i will take the tig welder home over the holidays and do some panel work. Looks like i convinced the boss to buy a new alloy welder as well , excellent Quote
xa1973 Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 So Teach, was that a B+ for helping clean up those exhaust bends..... Quote
waxhead Posted June 30, 2009 Author Posted June 30, 2009 Bit of an update have finished all but one pf the pipes The next thing is to finish the collector at the turbo I will build a bridge as i want to run a twin entry turbo Then bore a hole in the bottom for the waste gate get it coated and all done Lots of cleaning up work as well This was friggin complex building this manifold its awesome and i really like the manifold but i am not sure i would do it again , heck yes i would but i wouldnt look forward to it sorry about the low quality pics but it was taken by my iphone at night Quote
waxhead Posted July 1, 2009 Author Posted July 1, 2009 Well the manifold is almost ready to be machined now Actually there is 5 mins of cleaning up top be done but i will wait until its machined first then clean it up and off to the coaters let me know what you think im stoked with it Quote
waxhead Posted July 1, 2009 Author Posted July 1, 2009 Yeah pipes every where Hard on a non cross flow engine as you cant go up only down and out Quote
xa1973 Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 And no socks, but I see an old runner on the sidelines.............change of pace Quote
waxhead Posted July 1, 2009 Author Posted July 1, 2009 Yeah a pair of socks was killed in the making of these pipes I didnt want them to look all the same i actually wanted them every where makes it look more complex Quote
waxhead Posted July 2, 2009 Author Posted July 2, 2009 Well working under the guard hopefully the new front suspension will be here next week so i can bolt that in with the lowered srings Just found out that some one bolted a r180 into my car and took the r200 for themselves not very nice of them Oh well a 180 is lighter and will take the load of a turbo l28 so its not so bad Quote
C.A.R. Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Oh well a 180 is lighter and will take the load of a turbo l28 so its not so bad Ha! Quoted for later WHEN you break it. Quote
waxhead Posted July 2, 2009 Author Posted July 2, 2009 So your saying that they arent that strong I heard they were not to bad?? Quote
V8Datto Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 I've got a R180 with about 260HP going into it, still going strong after 3 year of abuse. It is cig center an probley the only reason why it survived. Those spider gears things would have exploded on the first outing otherwise. Nice job on the tubes too.. Quote
waxhead Posted July 2, 2009 Author Posted July 2, 2009 ok thanks Im going to try and push more than that through it Looks like i will have to go foo another one later down the track Guess its time to look around for an r200 cheap Quote
waxhead Posted July 2, 2009 Author Posted July 2, 2009 Cleaned out the back a bit today I have some work to do to fix this guys back to metal job that never was Its all good i will get there , hopefully new suspension turns up next week and so its back on the wheel then wait for the rubber to get here Man trying to get that through bolt out in the rear suspension is proving to be a chore, I think i will bring the gas axe home from work and heat it up some more Quote
Scando Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 I ran a welded R180 until I changed to an LSD early this year. It had no problems and I wasn't exactly easy on it on starts With the sticky tyres we run that puts even more load through the diff too. But as V8Datto said, if it's an open diff and you go doing one wheel skids everywhere you will destroy the spider gears in no time. I say weld up the R180, weldys are fun Quote
waxhead Posted July 2, 2009 Author Posted July 2, 2009 Ok thanks for that Im not about doing burn outs every where so it should be ok I was thinking about getting an lsd for it , i dont really want to weld it as its going to chop out the tyres something terrible Quote
garvice Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 Im not about doing burn outs every where so it should be ok I don't beleive that for a second, because you have said this before. Then we i want to clown it up i want to be able to slide down the road sideways in 2nd gear fighting for traction Quote
