waxhead Posted July 5, 2009 Author Posted July 5, 2009 Ha ha ok you got me Maybe i need the bigger diff huh Quote
waxhead Posted July 28, 2009 Author Posted July 28, 2009 I have been a bit quiet on this due to other things Also been thinking about if i really want to do my l28 up and the answer is nah i want more exotic So yesterday i went and brought my new engine an rb26det I guess there is no choice now for the diff i will need the r200 If you are interested in any of the stuff i had for my l28 then let me know The block is all bedurred and hot tanked , other than that the stuff will just sit on the wall Quote
RB30X Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 so what l28 stuff did you have or are willing to part with?? Quote
Aaron Neubauer Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 my new engine an rb26det Very interesting............. Quote
waxhead Posted August 9, 2009 Author Posted August 9, 2009 I picked up a dr30 skyline diff for the car today its an r200 with cv,s on it , from what i can gather its pretty much a bolt in for my 260z price was right at 200 kiwi for the whole thing Guess i will be selling my r180 now as well Funny i will have no mechanicals left in this car that it came with I will be rebuilding diff and will get a lsd centre for it at the same time Quote
RB30X Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 Are you sure thats an R200? Looks a lot different to the two I pulled out of my 280zx's. mine didn't have a bolted flange where the cv's go in, the cv's looked thicker and the diff looked wider. unless it's just the pics? Quote
waxhead Posted August 9, 2009 Author Posted August 9, 2009 Yeah it may be wrong i will have to look into it further before i pick it up It does seem narrow im wondering if its out of a subarau Ok your right kn31 is a subaru diff good spotting i was sold as a nissan skyline diff thanks for that Im going to tell the guy thanks but no thanks Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted August 9, 2009 Moderators Posted August 9, 2009 I was about to chime in also; I removed my LSD from a 2 door R31 import turbo and that does not look like a R200. Theres a guy on ebay (username nnnn67 I think?) who sells R200 LSD's for around $990. It's worth that amount to save you the hassle of looking and making sure you buy the right one. Quote
waxhead Posted August 9, 2009 Author Posted August 9, 2009 yeah your right I actually have an r200 out of a 2+2 coming i just liked the fact that it had cv joints Lucky i have you guys to spot that before i stuff up and end up with the wrong diff Quote
waxhead Posted August 22, 2009 Author Posted August 22, 2009 Well managed to score my rb26dett this week so its all go ahead on that , picked up the manifolds last week and have already ported them Looking for an rb25det gear box at the moment to hold back the power Quote
waxhead Posted September 3, 2009 Author Posted September 3, 2009 I have stripped the head on the rband its in the tank now Im just working on the rear sump for it now . Quote
nizm0zed Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 looking good. your either going to need a spare block, or make a strong jig to bolt that sump to before welding it up, or it'll warp like a mofo. even then, it'll probably need a skim anyway. Quote
waxhead Posted September 3, 2009 Author Posted September 3, 2009 Im going to strip the engine then stuff the bottom with wet rags and weld it on the engine Quote
garvice Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 What about bolting it to a steel jig? Quote
waxhead Posted September 4, 2009 Author Posted September 4, 2009 Yeah would be awesome but i dont have a steel jig do you have one I would actually like to get hold of a stuffed engine block to use Quote
garvice Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 Come on mate! I have seen your fabrication skill in this thread. Take some 40x40 shs and weld that together. Add some cross bracing to keep it all square then just drill through for bolts. Shouldn't need every hole. Then you don't damage a block and you have a jig when people say "Are you going into production with these?" Or "I need a larger sump for my RB26, can you build one" On another note, have you seen if all RBs have the same bolt locations for the sumps? RB30s can be had for real cheap (mate picked one up complete long block for 300). I am sure stuffed short blocks could be had for next to nothing. Quote
waxhead Posted September 4, 2009 Author Posted September 4, 2009 yeah I know i was just hopefull haha Im not sure about going into production, im thinking about getting some laser cutout as it would be easier to put together Or just cut some out of sheet at work with the gas torch Quote
Brabham Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 Hi nice work, Is there any reason why the stock sump won't fit/ work? What about with an RB30? Thanks Quote
waxhead Posted September 4, 2009 Author Posted September 4, 2009 yeah i have to put the deep part of the sump at the back Quote
Aaron Neubauer Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 Wouldn't modifying an RB30 sump to be deeper in the rear section be easier and safer than modifying the original? Could always put some baffled windage trays in there while your at it! Quote
waxhead Posted September 4, 2009 Author Posted September 4, 2009 Yeah thats a good idea Using an rb30 sump, good thinking Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted September 4, 2009 Moderators Posted September 4, 2009 If you get a sump from a GQ Patrol, they have the hump to the back but its a little to low; you would have to remove some of it. When you see it you will know. Quote
waxhead Posted September 4, 2009 Author Posted September 4, 2009 do you mean the deep part is to low and would hit the road so to speak Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted September 4, 2009 Moderators Posted September 4, 2009 Yeah, I found a pic... You will see the sump has a lower rear part but then goes deeper again. That's the section you have to cut and just re weld. Also, grab the oil pickup and modify that to suit the sump. Quote
