bluerat Posted April 28, 2014 Author Posted April 28, 2014 Yeah Cody's not to shabby behind the lens! Wrap your ears around this! Kart track lap sprint on Saturday. Quote
Riceburner Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Sounds sweet, what sort of system do you run? Quote
bluerat Posted June 1, 2014 Author Posted June 1, 2014 It's just a mandrel 2 1/2 inch system Gareth, nothing flash or out of the ordinary. Gotta love a Datsun six! Well, after a big month in motorsport, we have finally had a chance to whip the head off the big girl and change the head gasket. There was a lot of oooh-ing and aarrr-ing when we had a good look at the head, Hall'y did a top job! It had just blown on the edge of no.3 so I've ordered a Kinetic MLS gasket to hopefully stop it in the future. As expected it has been running very rich, so when the head goes back on it's off to the rolling road for a good tune and a rear wheel alignment with the new arms. I've got a big 6 month's planned, so hopefully it all stays together! Before all of this I went for a very enjoyable drive through the Hellyer Gorge, and on the way back took a photo at the now derelict Yolla Filling Station, which was the start and finish venue for a huge amount of rallies during the 80's and 90's....and happy hunting grounds for my car in the past! Quote
bluerat Posted June 2, 2014 Author Posted June 2, 2014 Geeeez I cant get the photo to load... Anyway here's my old mate Dutchie in a two door Datsun, I'm as proud as punch! Quote
bluerat Posted June 28, 2014 Author Posted June 28, 2014 OK fella's, I worked out the photo problem... Head's back on, smaller brake cylinder fitted up for the front calipers, brake bias adjuster knob fitted, a small fiddle with cam timing and a larger diameter steering wheel fitted. Baskerville hillclimb in a fortnight, I really can't wait! Quote
bluerat Posted November 16, 2014 Author Posted November 16, 2014 Well guy's I might not have the fastest or best looking 240z in Aust, but I'm betting I proberly have the most raced!! 13 events in 12 months.... October was huge, with 4 events in 4 weekends then it was off to Sydney for Time Attack. So at the end of all that we ended up with a class win at the Aust Super Sprint champs at Symmons and a best time of 1.04.8, and a 1.04.8 again at Baskerville dodging MG's at the Historics. Baskerville Historics was a ripper, over 200 cars competing and the 3rd biggest crowd ever in the history of the track. We made a couple of changes to the car which have made a huge difference. The car has always been a pig to drive compared to the 1600, you were just hanging on all the time and chasing it all over the road. When we first had it wheel aligned the operator talked us in to 2mm toe out, it's the 'modern' thing to do and he had not put toe in on a car for years.....anyway after 9 months of chasing our tail, we gave it 2mm toe in...different car, completely different! The engine has also had a couple of road tuning sessions which has made it a lot more drivable and punchie, if that's a word!! Yesterday was the second 31 bends of Barrington hillclimb for the year and with a new set of Khumo Semi's we ended up with a 4th outright from 33 cars and less than 1 sec a km off class leader Phill in his BMW. Mind you Eddie Macguire, fresh off a win in Targa High Country was 4.3 sec/km quicker... One more Hillclimb to go, then a little summer break, before Targa Gorge and Poatina. I'm planning on sending the shocks off for a birthday and putting some more length into the front arms. Quote
PZG302 Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Yeah, it's sad that there aren't too many "old school" blokes around that know how to set up older cars. I'm lucky up here in Brisbane that there are a few good blokes who know old cars, and at least one knows how to set up a Valiant front end to handle. Pics look great of the old girl being used as it should be. Quote
GK510 Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Nice pics! Some great results too. The car just looks at home on the track. Even if it is a bit tail happy Quote
bluerat Posted December 6, 2014 Author Posted December 6, 2014 Cheers guy's A bit of in car from today... Quote
zed240au Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 looking good hodgo you really got the old girl going hard Mick Quote
Scando Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Nice steering mate, and what an outstanding production! I'll be looking out for you on the red carpet at the Oscars. Quote
HKSZ Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 Nice work, we have a similar track here in VIC Quote
bluerat Posted December 9, 2014 Author Posted December 9, 2014 Thanks for that HKSZ, I just spent a very enjoyable hour watching Kev in-car on Youtube. Man what a weapon! Cheers Scando, I'm glad you and the Academy enjoyed it. LOL How did your in car come out Mick? I'm thinking we should do a Baskerville clubday soon! Quote
zed240au Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Zed drove home just fine Hodgo fastest car to drive there and home again Baskerville sounds good need to have a look at next years calendar and make it happen Mick Quote
bluerat Posted December 30, 2014 Author Posted December 30, 2014 I mate popped this on youtube from Highcleare. I'm slowly learning the importance of a full 'spanner check' after every event, the rear suspension/diff cradle had come loose again after loosing bolts from it at the Baskerville Historics. I'm thinking the solid diff mount might have something to do with it... We are working towards the Targa Gorge event in early Feb, aprox 100km competitive, then Poatina Hillclimb the weekend after, approx. 60km competitive. Also a couple more photo's from the event. The yellow 200b is Leeroy's 2.4 weapon and the Skyline is Nath's gravel rally car. Quote
Scando Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 Best get the loctite out pal. The nuts on my moustache bar always kept coming loose until we put loctite on them. Quote
bluerat Posted January 1, 2015 Author Posted January 1, 2015 Lol for sure Scando, I brought a new bottle after the old Loctite leaked through my tool box, bugger. I ran the tap through the captive nut and brought new bolts as well, so hoping this fix's it. The poor old 200b is a bit un-loved...It's a good thing in real life. Check out the brands on Mrs Blues new race horse, purely by coincidence. Quote
bluerat Posted March 22, 2015 Author Posted March 22, 2015 Howdy, I scored some great shots from Targa Gorge, held in early Feb I thought I might share. Mrs Blue and I entered the 'Rookie classic' section, with a free entry into Targa Tas, it was a pretty big carrot!! We were having a great run, over one and a half minute up on 2nd and two stages to go when we broke a rocker, which, along with the lash pad disappeared into the engine, it also back fired that hard it bent the brass butterfly in the throttle body....so we parked it. If anyone is thinking about doing a tarmac event, this is ripper, only 45 minute from the boat and a great piece of road. Thankfully Poatina hillclimb was been postponed which gave us a chance to lift the engine and drop the sump, we found both broken bits complete, with no other damage to the engine, PHEW!! with the sump off Leeroy measured the oil level and found with 6.5 litres in the Arizona Zed alloy sump the crank was dragging in the oil, so now only run 5.5 litres. With no other changes, other than seat time, we went .8 of a second quicker at the Highcleare hillclimb the next weekend, not far behind a very 'traction challanged' Mighty Mick in the V8, and .5 of a second off the class C record. On the last run I blew the diff centre, which was basically the last original part left in the car...so I've dragged out the old 4.6 r180 weldie to try at Barrington early next month. Another degree of camber might be on the cards... Cheeers Hodgo Quote
260DET Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 Cool, so everything that is going to break has now broke? Is that how it works Quote
