Mr240z
hey ben is the carbon fibre bonnet on your 240z engineered? Do glass bonnets have to be engineered...First I've heard of this.
OZ001
Do glass bonnets have to be engineered...First I've heard of this. because when you crash it, the impact would be greater than the original bonnet.. so a defect letter might be mailed to your house. ive also heard that if its a carbon fibre bonnet, it must be the exact shape as the original without any modifcations =S i might be wrong.. :-\
Moderators Zedman240® Posted October 8, 2009 Moderators Share Posted October 8, 2009 Also, pedestrian impact has to be considered with modifying front ends. That's why when people install huge intercoolers in the front, they have to be safe so if you hit anyone, they won't be shredded up before they go over your new carbon bonnet and into your windscreen. BenZed
Being a 1973 car with about five numbers on the compliance plate, there's not a lot that a 240Z has to comply with. I don't really give a rats about engineering, if the car is heavily defected I'll just take it off the road and get rally-rego.
MaygZ
It is my understanding that carbon bonnets fail to comply with the ADRs in Vic. No I can't tell you which ADR. They fail due to the fact that they fail to 'crumple' in a collision, instead shear off at the hinges and spear through the windscreen. Obviously this results in a messing interior. nizm0zed
correct, carbon/fibrglass bonnets fail ADR's and cant be used, due to not providing adequate crumple protection in the event of hitting a pedestrian. The ADR's they fail to comply to were introduces in the early 90's though, so its not something we have to worry about. you'll also find that a decently designed glass bonnet will shatter and fold up before shearing off the hinges, and if your in a frontal impact hard enough to shear ot off and through the winscreen, then the outcome isnt going to be pretty regardless of the bonnet hitting you or not. thehelix112
Ben, Can you provide weights of any of these components? Seems like that'd be rather important information for anyone actually thinking of shelling out that sort of dough. Dave

BenZed
hi i know this is going to be an off topic request i was wondering if your man could make up sill panels for a H330 ie a cedric cheers No, but they do have a bonnet and front guards in fibreglass. The sills should really be steel, no?
deformed
yes they should but they have a nasty tendency to rust and when i say rust i really mean rust. whole car perfect but a hole along the whole bottom of the sill cheers mate
C.A.R.
The sills are a structural member of the chassis, so FG sills = big No No. Also fitting a FG sill sill also trap moisture over time & further rot the car. Have a new sill section pressed/rolled & then weld it into place
BenZed
FREE FREIGHT!!!! I am filling a container in Japan at the moment, which will be shipping out some time in July. If you want any big carbon or fibreglass parts (such as bonnets or guards) this is your chance to get them without the added cost of airfreight. We will load them last so they will be safe from damage and there will be no freight charge on top of the prices at the start of this post. We will also charge any local freight at the bare minimum to cover our costs. This is a rare opportunity as we don't normally do parts containers out of Japan, so don't miss out!
